This artist is exactly suited to your channel. Wait until you see the tales of jenny and screech. It's performance personified. He's singing rapping playing, using the acoustics of his surroundings, acting and storytelling in the manner of a bard of old. The story is not cheerful, and it is at times quite uncomfortable to watch, but I highly recommend that you watch it. It's a 3 act play, set to music and a genuine masterpiece.
I very much second this. The video is titled "The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Official Music Video)". It's 13 minutes long, and includes all three chapters.
You have just tripped over the most dynamic performer working today. No matter what you look at next from Ren, you will not be prepared for it. Enjoy your journey down the Ren Rabbit Hole!
For REN, this was truly his reality. Ren had misdiagnosed Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic. Second is dealing with the symptoms of Lyme neuroborreliosis, these neurological symptoms often leave patients feeling drained and debilitated as they begin losing their quality of life. Over time, patients find themselves unable to do the things they love as they struggle to get ahead of their progressing symptoms.
You can't make a rainbow without a little rain! Ren is amazing. He has been through more than any human should have to. He had a hell of a journey and he came out of it and he is doing amazing things now benefitting the world. My hats off to the dude. He deserves all the blessings he is receiving.
These words have never been truer! He makes me feel like a very proud but protective parent and yet, he isn't my child. I want nothing but the very best for him!!
Ren didn't/doesn't have a personality disorder & his issues are all physical based. As others have mentioned he was misdiagnosed with ME/CFS for yrs, medically gaslit into thinking it was all in his head, given inappropriate meds & became bedbound for yrs, was in excruciating pain & had side effects that affected him psychologically. When he was correctly diagnosed w/Lyme he got the appropriate treatments but so much time had gone by that he had/has some long term damage that he's still treating. Happy to see Ren bringing more people into his universe. He actually got the #1 album in the UK some months ago, so he's doing well..and all as an independent artist!
Ren's catalog is fantastic. The variety and range are amazing. I don't know if you looked into his back story. When I first saw you guys were reacting to it, I thought you might touch on it. He lived with undiagnosed Lime's disease for years. He was sent the psychological treatment route instead and suffered greatly. Another song along these lines and is called Sick Boi. It touches on the medical side of things, intense and introspective from the patient's point of view. Hi Ren was done as a live one-take (actually several, but this was the best). Sick Boi is not, but he does a ton of live video performance. A very impressive artist.
Very beautiful reaction. Ren made so many people feel not so alone. He gave hope to those with chronic physical and mental illness. He shines a light on topics that are seldom dealt with. 27 million views in little more than a year. Ren is a force for change and empathy in this broken society. His community of Renegades uplift and support each other. His catalogue us very deep. May i suggest Sick Boi next? It deals with his tumultuous relationship with tbe medical community, which misdiagnosed his Lyme disease and caused deeper damage.
I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. jAN 01, 2023 rEN~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.
Welcome to the Rens Rabbit Hole. I’m 56 years old and I am so happy to be alive during Rens time. He is the best artist I have yet to experience. My fellow Renagades will give you a good list to listen to. My only suggestions are, don’t use the captions (lol) and please watch the full trilogy of Jenny and Screetch. It is true art. A hardcore bardcore!!
Thx for the suggestion about losing the captions. We will do that next time. And thx for the recommendations. We are looking forward to exploring the Ren Rabbit Hole!!
He is gifted in singing every genre, plays multiple instruments at a masters level. Makes his own music, composes and producers all of his own music and videos. He is independent with a small team of friends.
Enjoyed your take on this work of art. Strictly from a performance standpoint Ren has a huge amount to offer. You really need to watch his trilogy called the Tales of Jenny & Screech. You have to watch the full trilogy at the same time for the best experience. You won't regret it.
Welcome to the multitalented genius Ren. This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. A powerful icing on the Ren-cake if you will 😅 He is a relatable voice for everyone dancing in the darkness as he eloquently, with all the authenticity of someone who is painfully familiar with it, lets us know that we are not alone and inspires us to keep dancing. And in doing so, Ren has literally saved lives with his art. I trust that other RENegades will fill you in on his backstory and probably recommend Sick Boi for insight into his frustrations from being misdiagnosed for years. I will just add a suggestion to check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning. Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a genuinely good human being who wants to inspire positive change in the world. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️
Thank you so much for the thoughts, feedback, background and suggestions. We have been reading about him and we are really enjoying going down the Ren Rabbit Hole.
@@performanceinitiative it is a wonderful journey. The rabbit hole is deep and wide, but every part of it is worth exploring. Oh and just a little help to guide you. While I’m sure plenty of people will tell you to react to the trilogy of tales in the correct order, it is often overlooked that there are a few other songs touching on the same subject and best done in order of release (though doesn’t have to be in one sitting): Freckled Angels -> How To Be Me live with Chinchilla (optional as it doesn’t directly impact the experience of the last song) -> Suic!de -> For Joe. Trust me. It makes the last song extra special 🖤🐰🕳️
A true Ren masterpiece here! This song is a game changer! The "loosen the noose on the rope" line gets me every time! Ren is such a talented artist with a wide discography and all of it is top tier! Enjoy your Ren journey🎉🎉🎉
It is a work of art for sure but it is a cultural piece as well. Every human being can relate to this song. Shining a light on Mental illness through his own experiences makes this even more special.
Verbose and clinical analysis of an emotion filled theatrical masterpiece. The takeaway, relax, go with the flow and release the grip of self doubt. No less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. TY guys, great reaction.
YES. Some music you put on for a relaxing background, or to dance.....you listen to Ren Gill to THINK. To PONDER. To reconsider your life choices. On the surface, it is a therapy we all badly need. BEYOND that....the guitar....the wordsmithing....the expression, the use of background noise, and silence. I will honestly say I NEEDED it very badly. This is an entire...masterpiece. I am 65 and have heard a lot of "music".....I'm an absolute RENegade now. This is world-changing, and needs to be REQUIRED watching everywhere. The first listening had me sobbing for an hour. I now LOVE to watch other people's reactions!!!!! Jenny/screech/Violet next, please!!!! Three people's entire life story in 13 minutes. Shakespearian tragedy.
Usually, for reaction videos, I don't like the (otherwise so much desired and important) behavior of "listen, then think, then speak". But in your case, it works, because even in such a long video, you still addressed every major aspect. Well done, thank you.
Beautiful reaction! I so appreciate your analysis. Welcome to the world of Ren. You will find him to be a master of lyrics, voice, guitar, piano., story telling, and of all genres. Thanks for the great reaction!
Welcome to the most interesting and talented rabbit hole you’ll ever fall into. I’m sure all the renegades will be along to support and give you loads of info on Ren. Next songs to do I recommend Sick boi - Rens battle to be heard just to be told it was all in his head Seven sins - describing when he went into psychosis after a failed treatment, also the pain he’s felt. The tale of Jenny and screech, including violets tale. The money game trilogy. The big push (busking) I shot the sheriff - road to Zion - hip hop. The big push - war pigs. Animal flow. And so so many more. Enjoy 😉
Thank you for an awesome reaction to this masterpiece!❤️ And welcome to the world of Ren!🥳 The Renegade community will lovingly guide you down the mesmerizing Ren rabbit hole🤗 Subbed to follow your journey❤️
If you notice on the floor when he’s sitting in the chair going back-and-forth, there’s a shadow from the one light and on the dark side of the shadow is darker on the floor and on the right side it’s a lighter
You guys doing Ren reactions? Hehe new RENegade subscriber here. Gonna love taking this ride with you guys. Keep 'em coming! -But turn off those useless youtube subs.
love your reaction hugs all around, now normally i would say do the tales of jenny and screech all 3 parts at once! but in my opinion if you want to hear pain, do Rens Seven Sins it makes me cry everytime! also small hint before u watch that look up about Rens story a little! hope to see more like and sub!
Ren is simply amazing. Thank you for the reaction! I stopped listening to music for many years because none of it spoke to me. Then I read a book by Dr James Doty titled Into the Magic Shop and it led me to check out a song by the Korean group BTS titled Magic Shop. The song is loosely based on the book and the idea of exchanging negative feelings for positive thoughts within your mind. I'm 48 years old, and I admit that a kpop group completely saved my life from dire depression. Please check out Magic Shop (live version with lyric translation) by BTS. So much of their music is about mental health. They even have an album series called Love Yourself, and another series named Map of the Soul based on the works of Carl Jung. Again, thank you for the reaction to Ren. He is the only other artist I have found that matches the deep level of BTS' music.
That is fascinating about BTS. We will check out the book by Doty. We are really glad the BTS music spoke to you so profoundly. That really is one of the transcendent qualities that we are enjoying in this music exploration experience.
Thanks to @docdurdin (comments posted) for the Ren back story........I think the Pig/Butcher reflects Ren's opinion of many doctors and therapists who don't take the time to truly assist their patients and appears in many of his videos; the discordant guitar and vocals are intentional, expressing the internal chaos Ren still feels; the wildly blinking lights serve the same purpose......."Truth in a blender, Deceitful Pretender" .........
I have been watching Ren for over a yr now !! I have Ren hour every day , I watch all the reaction posts and love watching everyones first time seeing Ren !! He still totally blows my mind and hits ALL the nerves !!! (shivers ) Enjoy your ride !!!!

Ren is an incredibly unique artist, please react to jenny and Screech and Sick Boi. Also can I recommend you react to Raye , another British incredible singer songwriter , maybe look at her recent Brits performance, absolutely incredible! Great reaction, Ren brought me to your channel 😊
my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,, i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining hat i was. trying to do to get help and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of al that could be but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard..
Hello. I’m new, led here by the ever watchful RU-vid algorithm. I read all of the comments so far and everyone is replying in very positive and complementary ways. That’s #Renegades for you; they voraciously support anyone who supports @RenMakesMusic However… I never understand reactors who can watch this with frozen half grins on their faces, rarely if ever changing expressions regardless of what Ren is singing/playing/saying.🤯 How can anyone watch something so incredibly moving and beautiful, so artful and masterfully crafted, and just sit frozen with a blank grin on your face? This isn’t exactly lighthearted, grinning material. Have you never suffered in such a way? Do you not feel a tide of emotions rise within you when he rises to his feet to confront his demons? “I go by many names also. Some people know me as hope. Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope”. How can you watch his impassioned performance and hear him say those words and NOT get a knot in your throat and tears well from your eyes?? I sobbed like a baby at least the first 30 times I watched this, and my throat still aches and my eyes still tear up, even after the hundredth viewing. So I must ask: when you watched this, how could you possibly not FEEL anything? For contrast, this reactor Rosalie reacted to her first viewing of “Hi Ren” like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6roqjkKCnIk.htmlsi=X6RwWv9pFXz6geNN You’ll notice she has 128k subscribers, but her reaction video got 1.2 MILLION views. You know why? Because when people watched her reaction they saw their own reactions in hers. She GOT IT in the same breathtaking, heartbreaking , aching way millions and millions of other people GOT IT. Contrast that with the way the two of you reacted and I’m sure you understand my confusion. Many other #Renegades , I’m certain, are probably wondering the same thing about your lukewarm reception but are too kind to mention their confusion.
I dont know if someone has told you this or not but this is a live one take as are many of his videos. Glad i found your channel i love that real physicians with your vast medical knowlege can input something interesting on topics, music, etc.
There's no doubt Ren is one creative SOB that pushing the limits of what we thought music should be. Personally I do believe there is one other artist that is equally creative and also pushes the limits of what we thought music should be, Hua Chenyu from China, a couple examples, Fake Monk, 7 Personalities, Dad, I'm Home. Given Ren's life experiences might make Ren's music hit more on a personal level but Hua is equally as talented.
@@performanceinitiative Here's a sampler, Fake Monk from 2018 Singer competition. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3or9nB1IH7A.html Anything from the Singer competition of 2018 and 2020 are amazing, the best stage performer. Dad, I'm Home is only available through reaction videos now, as the song is about domestic violence and was labeled the saddest song in the world and China couldn't have that image out there, so they scrubbed it clean from the internet. shame
Oh please, sit down buckle up and watch the amazing Tales of Jenny and Screech full version with Violets Tale. New sub here, loved what you had to say about this.
The misdiagnosis and mistreatment of lyne disease for years lead to severe sideeffects including Psychosis. Once he got the correct diagnosis and proper treatment, he could begin to heal in every way and focus on his art. Thanks for the insightful reactions and commentary. 😊
In future Ren videos, PLEASE turn off the CC's as they are nearly always wrong or poorly timed. Great reaction tho', I hope you carry on delving into his catalogue.
Just a hint, when watching a Ren video (especially, Hi Ren) turn OFF subtitles. RU-vid can't keep up and half of the words are wrong - so it's extremely distracting and takes away from the artistry of the video. Enjoy the brilliance that is Ren!
You need to both look over your reaction again because only one of you talking and the other one every time he goes to speak you and talk over the top of him or take over his idea and finish up what you say. You may have had some good points to make, but it was lost on the delivery.
