I was 10 myself and I love watching the reactions to a song I've loved for55+ years.. My favorites, and this isn't racist, is how so many can't fathom it being a white guy with that amazing vocal range from B2 to E6 ad he did it so effortlessly and the girls who cannot keep from getting weepy. Although it was originally part of a prison movie, the timing of this version coincided with all the troops in Viet Nam and the hopes/prayers that they'd come home safe

The Righteous Brothers were the hottest act in the mid-sixties. They had 22 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and three albums on the top 20 simultaneously. Their first hit, 'You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling'. Was the most played song of the 20th century and well into the 21st, and is listed in the Library of Congress as 'culturally significant'.

This was extremely popular in Vietnam among American troops (although I have no idea why… 🤔😉). Most of the time it was played quietly and intimately, most commonly while the serviceman was looking at his wife’s or girlfriend’s picture(s). It was rarely ever blared loudly like rock, CW, R&B, etc. If played in an enlisted or officers’ club, it was subdue the place to silence.

When The Righteous Brothers would go into the recording studio to record an album, each of them would sing one song sung solo. Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley both wanted to record “Unchained Melody”, which was a song in an obscure 1950s prison film, “Unchained”, that was covered successfully by numerous music artists. They decided to make a coin toss to resolve the issue. Bobby Hatfield won the coin toss. The Righteous Brothers were a California-based singing duo that sang R & B-inspired songs, which the music press called “blue-eyed Soul” music. Their greatest musical success was in the 1960s, with hit songs such as this one, “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”, “Soul And Inspiration”, and others. The Righteous Brothers re-recorded “Unchained Melody” for the “Ghost” Movie Soundtrack, and it also became a hit. The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003, a few months prior to Bobby Hatfield’s death from a cocaine overdose at the age of 63. Bill Medley is still alive, and still touring. Medley teamed up with Jennifer Warnes to record the hit duet song, “I Had The Time Of My Life” for the “Dirty Dancing”Soundtrack Album in 1987, and the song won Medley his only Grammy Award of his career.

The Righteous Brothers are countertenor, Bobby Hatfield, the guy who sang Unchained Melody, and bass-baritone, Bill Medley. Throughout their career the did duets and solos. You asked where they're from: Southern California, Orange county. Bobby Hatfield could sing anything in any genre and make it his, a vocal virtuoso.
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour Год назад
The Righteous Brothers are Bill Medley (not in this video) and Bobby Hatfield (who performed Unchained Melody SOLO). They're from southern California and were the opening act on The Beatles first American tour. Then they became one of the house groups on ABC-TV's primetime series "Shindig!" where they gained most of their national recognition. "Unchained Melody" was about their fourth or fifth hit single. To hear the two of them together, I suggest you listen to "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'." They are magical together. And "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" is another great one. But nobody ever does a reaction to their first big hit, "Little Latin Lupe Lu," which Bill wrote, and became a mainstay song in every rock 'n roll cover band's repertoire in the '60s. That's right, these two also did rock and roll. Maybe the best duo to come out of the rock era of popular music. Also, the reason why the audience was so "chill" is because this was taped in a network television studio for NBC-TV's primetime series, "The Andy Williams Show," a musical variety show hosted by, well, Andy Williams, who was one of the older generation's favorite crooners (and one helluva talent in his own right). Since the audience was there to watch a TV show being taped in the controlled environment of a TV studio, you can bet they were briefed ahead of time to sit quietly, except when they were applauding at the beginning and end of each performance. That said, it's fair to say that in the 1960s, audiences understood they were there to WATCH AND LISTEN to performances, not inject themselves into the performance and become a part of it like the unruly assholes we have in modern society nowadays routinely do.

The 1960s, 70s and 80s was the golden age of popular music.(I first heard this song in 1965 as a child and have loved it ever since.) The generations after missed out on so much! At least you can catch some of that music on You Tube. As an Aussie I suggest you react to our most fabulous singer, John Farnham (who can also hit the high notes and is a counter-tenor like Bobby, here). If you like love songs then you'll thoroughly enjoy, 'Burn For You,' co-written by John Farnham, performed LIVE with his band and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

This was from the Andy Williams show in 1965. I was seven and saw this performance and still remember it. What a time to grow up in the sixties. It's hard to even fathom that we had the two all time icons from that decade, both The Beatles and Bob Dylan. These two are the GOAT'S. Along with The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin and trust me, I could go on and on. Young blacks today along with whites have no clue what great classic black music is. Sorry but rap ain't music, it's BS. You mentioned The Temptation', they were on the Motown label out of Detroit which became known as the Motown Sound. The roster of incredible artists that Barry Gordy signed to that label is mind boggling. Along with The Temptations, Diana Ross And The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and again, I can go on and on just on that label and there were many labels. Google Motown Records and watch the famous names that pop up on that roster. Music talent was bursting at the seams in the sixties everywhere. Music was great until that BS Disco craze hit in 75 or 76 and its been in a downward spiral since then. The Righteous Brothers were Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley and their music was called Blue Eyed Soul. Check out video from 1964 "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and you'll see how great they were. There was no auto tune or auto correct for live or studio singers back then, it was pure talent or you didn't make it. Unlike today, most of these young ones would have never made it back then and that's a fact. Peace ❤

Oh, if you think the Righteous Brothers are great (and they were) listen to the Bee Gees "Too Much Heaven" Official Video. You will be blown away by their falsetto, incredible harmonies and yes, soul!

I had to smile all the way through at your reactions. Great video. It made me cry a little when you said maybe you were born at the wrong time. I'm grateful for the memories I have of how life was at that time.

@Aurora I encompassed OC into LA due to the time they were famous. At that time, there was no major delineation between areas, and they recorded in LA. They lived and had a club in OC. If you want to be technical, they weren't from CA. Nice try!

Dude. Early 1950's to the 1970's you had singers. Today you AIN'T got singers. It's that simple. There are at least 90,000 real songs you've never heard from back then.
