I was once shopping in Harrods, London, sometime back in the mid eighties and the person in front me held the door open for the person following. As the lady looked behind to see if I was safely through and saw that it was Shirley Bassey. Not only a superstar but such a modest person too.

Shirley bassy is classy and down to earth. She wears long sparkly gowns sometimes a feather boa. She has characteristic moves like people think Cher has. She uses her arms to express the song.out stretching them to the sides. She has a good sense of humour and has a very famous sketch from the Morecambe and wise show.whete they messed with her while she sings one of her songs.smoke gets in your eyes. This Welsh lady has such an amazing powerful voice. She has been performing since the 50's. Shirley Bassey is best known for her recordings of the theme songs from 3 James Bond films in the 60's & 70's "Goldfinger", "Diamonds Are Forever" & "Moonraker". In 2020 she became the first female artist to chart an album in the Top 40 of the UK Albums Chart in 7 consecutive decades with her album "I Owe It All To You".

The quote “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” was first used in the musical play of ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ in the late 1940’s and then became a hit when Marilyn Monroe sang it in the film version in the 1950’s. This song was written as the theme song - opening song for the James Bond movie ‘Diamonds are Forever’ in 1971.

You have to do her performance at the Oscars in 2013. They did a tribute to James Bond 50 years of films and Shirley came out at 76 and belted out Goldfinger. Crowd went nuts. She looked pretty good for her age, too. While I was looking for the 2013 vid, there is a video of her singing Diamonds Are Forever at the 2022 BAFTAs award show (British Oscars) and she still sounds amazing!

Elizabeth Taylor was an actress, Have you never seen the film Cleopatra?, well, she is the stunningly beautiful lady playing the title role, and that was just one of many films she made. Shirley Bassey is a national treasure here in the UK. She had her first hit record here in 1957. There is a video of her singing a song called "as i love you" on a live television show in 1959, i remember it from my childhood. Great reaction, as usual.

Dame Shirley, and Sir Tom Jones are both Welsh singers and were born just 20 miles apart. 20 mls further west is the birthplace of both Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Sir Anthony Hopkins. So much talent from such a small area. Add Roal Dahl, born 30 minutes walk from Dame Shirley's home too.

Shirley Bassey is a consumate singer. Songs like AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME, GOLDFINGER, and this one from the James Bond movie of the same name made her a star. In the 1990s, she hit the charts with a song called HISTORY REPEATING with the Propeller Heads. Give it a listen. It is worth the times. DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND is a song Marilyn Monroe sang in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Give it a listen. As for Elizabeth Taylor, her movies BUTTERFIELD 8 and WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? are worth watching. She's stars with the great Richard Burton in Woolf. She married him twice. They are a really combative couple in the movies.

To really appreciate Shirley you have to watch her live. Other greats include This Is My Life, Where Do I Begin, Never Never Never, Something and I Who Have Nothing. Elizabeth Taylor was an Oscar winning British actress. Her private life was notorious as she went through 8 husbands (twice marrying the same man). She was stunningly beautiful and men showered her with diamonds. Upon her death her collection went up for sale with many pieces reaching way above their estimate and the millions it raised all went to Aids charities.

Liz Taylor brought out the perfume ‘White Diamonds’ in 1991. The commercial didn’t use the actual song but the music did use a few bars, styles and notes that were very similar to the song, and the visuals were very reminiscent of a James Bond story. So it was definitely meant to evoke the song and film.

I suggest you skip forward around 50 years and watch Dame Shirley ( title given by our late Queen Elizabeth) Royal Albert Hall in front of around 7,500 BAFTA Awards I think 2022 just after Dame Shirley 84th birthday, yes she can certainly still hit the notes and is also great friends and Welsh counterpart of Sir Tom Jones who'll turn 84 in June and he's still touring the world and bought out a number one album when he was 80. They have the skills of singing live across the world and combined sold around 300 million records if not more now you can buy online and streaming, they're two of the nicest people you could ever wish too meet and have no ego and great sense of humour as with the majority from this generation

I remember in the 60’s reading about her, obviously chauffeur driven back from a performance came to a road accident. A lady involved lying on the road injured. Shirley put her fur coat over her to keep her comfortable until ambulance and police arrived to take care of her.

This was done for the soundtrack to the James Bond movie called Diamonds Are Forever. Shirley did two other title songs for the Bond films, Goldfinger and Moonraker. She was the only one ever to do three songs for the 007 films. She was a tour de force vocally, grew up listening to her and loving her voice. You guys should hear some of her earlier concerts she almost always pulled out a Bond song or two when performing.

This is from a James Bond film. She has been the singer for four Bond films. You should always try and watch her live - she has amazing stage presence and it makes her performances even better, if that is possible.
