This track is absolute 80's perfection. Great arrangement, huge production, great melodies and Jim/Robin's vocals. Fantastic, it never fails to lift my mood.
Yeah, how can they not have heard of Simple Minds when their song 'Don't You Forget About Me' was a huge hit internationaly, including the US where it was No.1 after it featured in the American movie 'The Breakfast Club'?... Maybe they are too young and we are showing our age. Æ 🤔
"New Gold Dream", "Someone Somewhere In S'mertime", "All The Things She Said", "She's A River" and (rolldrums) "Don't You (Forget About Me)"... A great band that did great music.
I remember when this came out, the "big" sound was so captivating, synth, drums, guitar with reverb and echo, even the piano has reverb on it. loved it.
“Up on the Catwalk,” “The Waterfront,” “Someone, Somewhere in Summertime.” Great musicians and really underrated in their time. I was lucky enough to see them open at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver, Colorado, in the early fall of 1984. They opened for The Pretenders and I think Chrissy Hynde (singer of Pretenders) was either married to or would later marry the singer of Simple Minds.
This album was all I listened to in my last year of college in 1986. On my graduation day, I had a pool party and played these songs for hours. Only my closest friends showed up and we had a blast. I love this band.
Love how Asia was all smiles listening to this. This group had some real bangers. Alive and Kicking, Don't You Forget About Me, All The Things She Said. Def check them out. This song sounds like soft rock to me.
One of Scotlands finest bands, I'll leave it to my fellow commentators to drop Simple Minds other great tracks , I'll listen to anything by this group👍
Love how you always get the 80's vibe right! They were amazing. All the songs listed in comments below are amazing but 2 little gems no one seems to remember are Lovesong and If you could see the light...the latter is one of my favs.❤️
They were HUGE (and are still active until today) back in the 80s/90's inEurope. They most famous song in the US is probably "Don't You (Forget About Me)" from the movie "The Breakfast Club". Check it out, guys!
Surprised you never reacted to Simple Minds before. New Gold Dream, Don’t You (Forget about me), Belfast Child, so many great songs. I’d say the closest genre wise is probably U2, same period as well. Their reverb drums were quite pioneering and later became representative for the eighties.
That's my favorite Simple Minds song. its very uplifting... absolutely 80's. i was an 80's teen and spent all my time watching every MTV video i could especially the British invasion ( Duran Duran) Don't you forget about me from the Breakfast club John Hughes movie is their most well known song.
Wife here... Totally 80's Synth Pop Rock...,New Wave TREASURE!!..Very much a "Feel Good" song!!..I honestly feel soooo much younger when I hear this!! SOOO 😎 Cool!!..It's Alive and Kicking..Perfectly Stated!!!
SOOOOOO glad you did this one!!! Christian rock bands in the 80's like us loved U2, Simple MInds, Big Country and that whole movement....Positive New Wave
New wave! Asia gots it! lol. Post-punk with R&B twist . They had a black lady sing on some of their songs, I forget her name, but shes good! They had a black drummer too (Mel something, I forget his name too lol) . A lot of their songs were uplifting. Check out more of their songs. "Don't You Forget About Me" is a great one, on movies.
ASIA is right on the money "NEW WAVE" they were new wave but earlier stuff edgier. Check out their LOVE SONG, CATLWALK, and WATERFRONT - one of the best vocalists hands down.
Coming from the (high school) Class of '86, this song was pervasive in the day. Simple Minds took it up a level with musical arrangements and instrumentation, but it was still driven by the syncopated brilliance of their fine drummer. Along with INXS "What You Need," Modern English "Melt With You," and U2 "Pride (In the Name of Love), this Simple Minds track helped define the sound of the mid-80s.
So many great songs from this great band to choose from. Waterfront, All the Things She Said, Belfast Child, She's a River, Oh Jungleland, New Gold Dream( 81 82 83 84) and See the Lights to name just a few!
Just scrolling through comments from top and see that others recommended songs. But you are first person that mentioned “See the Lights”. Everyone else seems to have missed that really fantastic tune.
Their earlier stuff is better - although the lead singer has one of the best rock/alternative voices giving BONO a run for his money. Try SIMPLE MINDS "LOVE SONG" will give you a great club feel of when they were more club alternative and at their best.
This song is about being a survivor of heartbreak and heartache. This music is 80s pop, r&b and rock. This song was released in late 85. React to their song All The Things She Said please.
The band with the highest number of songs I like to listen to. From the album "New Gold Dream" you can listen to any song. But I also loved the album "Sparkle in the rain" and "Street fighting years"
i was like 12 when this came out, that part at the end where he sings ba-ba-da-da-daaa i went around singing just that about for about 3 weeks straight, catchy AF lol
Can’t WAIT till I see Simple Minds live on the 12th of August! Playing Princes St Gardens in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland it’s gonna be AMAZING!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
It was in the eighties I remember it well the world was in turmoil middle of the cold war, millions starving, there was a recession going on and aids was running rampant nothing positive All we had is our music and hope, Hatred did not run deep in our music in those days. I think it's great you kind of got into it that's what music's supposed to To do .
Simple Minds are the HEART of the 80's - Best known for DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME the title song of THE BREAKFAST CLub -- LET THERE BE LOVE is a MUST Reaction from Simple Minds.
One of my favorites from the 80’s, and my favorite Simple Minds song, I really love it also because of the lady singing on it with them, her name is Robin Clark ..
New Wave Music was the love child produced by disco and punk. A classic example is a song by the band The Pretenders, the song is called The Adulteress. My personal favorite. ✌️
Back in the day, when I was younger, I dj’d a gentleman’s establishment. There was this very beautiful blonde, KY Kelly, and she would do this as her first song. She would dance her ass off and I would match her with a light show that matched her moves and the music. We would rock that song. Her second song, it would rain dead president’s. A memory of a lifetime!
I read this song is about the final moments of your life. "in the final seconds who is gonna save you" in other words, its about your relationship with God
