Slash did 2 versions of Slash's Snakepit. This is the first with Eric Dover on vocals & Mike Inez (Alice In Chains) on bass. The second version had a vocalist named Rod Jackson. Both are great.

Slash's Snakepit was his first solo effort post GNR. That setup did two albums. Then he did one or two albums with various singers. Now it's Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. All of its good! He also was in velvet revolver that had the band of gnr with Scott Weiland, former lead singer of stone temple pilots, and did two great albums with that set up.

Had GN'R not split in 94/95, this would've been on the next GN'R album. I've always wondered what Axl would've done with it lyrically/vocally. It's a great song, it just makes you wonder.

Slash also did this song with Myles Kennedy (lead singer of Alter Bridge) and the Conspirators in a live video that's really good!

This record Slash (Guns N' Roses lead guitarist) put together in 1994 was an all-star line-up - Eric Dover (lead vocals) was a guitarist in Alice Cooper's band... Matt Sorum (drums) and Gilby Clarke (guitar) were from Guns N' Roses, and Mike Inez (bass) was from Alice In Chains. Guns had finished a massive tour in 1993 and released a covers album that year... A lot of lawsuits were involved w/ Guns vocalist Axl Rose, so work on a new Guns album was delayed... Always the working musician, Slash started writing music for a new Guns album and sent a copy of them to Axl... Allegedly, Axl sent Slash back the copy back, telling him the music was "no good' and wanted the new material to sound "more like Pearl Jam"... Frustrated w/ the inactivity, Slash put together Slash's Snakepit and recorded the material as the album "It's 5 O' clock somewhere"... Guns' label Geffen agreed to release it in 1995. Slash claimed that he later got a call from Axl asking to hear the music again, but Slash told him it was gone... already recorded for release... While Slash went on tour to promote the album, Axl Rose was furious at Slash and talked about firing the guitarist... Matt Sorum opposed that option, and he was out of Guns as a result. The Slash's Snakepit album did not sell up to expectations, but it was poorly promoted in the grunge era... Geffen also pulled Slash off the road after a few months and insisted he work on a new Guns N' Roses album. In 1996, months had passed by w/ no Guns sessions and no new music... then came Axl's announcement that Slash was fired from Guns N' Roses... By 1997, bassist Duff McKagan had also left the band quietly. It was just months and months of waiting around and nothing happening... Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde was tapped to play in Guns in 1995, but he claimed he would just be sitting around waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Slash put together a 2nd Snakepit album "Ain't life grand" in 1998 w/ all-new members, released in 1999... but after opening for AC/DC in 2000, he ended the band by 2002. Velvet Revolver was the band Slash put together in 2004 w/ Duff McKagan (bass) & Matt Sorum (drums) ... Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland joined as the singer and recorded 2 albums, before they split in 2008. Slash did a solo album in 2010 and recruited a new solo band w/ Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy and the band he named the Conspirators.

Ive heard or read somewhere Slash originally wrote that whole album for Guns n’ Roses! Axl kept stalling so Slash didn’t want to wait and went on. There’s a few bangers on there and Eric Dover was good, but. that would of been Guns next album after illusions and may have kicked serious ass!

I actually know Eric, the lead singer. we are from the same town, he is our local hero here in North Alabama. lol... He also played guitar on one of Alice Coopers albums...

Great to see a reaction to this song. There are lots of great songs on this album but I always felt like it sounded a little bit thin and the vocals a little shouty. The 2nd Snakepit album had better production in my opinion. Thanks for the video

Guns n roses - civil war

Slash is one of my favorite artists and he'll probably always be my favorite guitarist. I own the album on which this song is on, bit I never really enjoyed it. I don't know if it's the songs or the voice of the singer, bit it just doesn't move me in any way. I don't hate it, but I never choose to listen to it.
