Each member is killing their old selves thru ways that are linked to each member. The 2 members that were killed by the others are the new members of the group (drummer and bassist) and they are having their old selves killed by the others sacrificialy to enter the band.....the dj lost his hands, the big nose was terrified of birds..etc etc
It's based off of what "slows us down" fear they were killed by there members because of the fear of betrayel, he is afraid of birds and you are correct with that but Cory's (lead singer) his head was blown off representing the ego we all have.
Corey(lead singer) has said its about the guilt the band had over their bassist(who died) from an overdose. It's about the guilt for not helping him. The song is about forgiving the selves. Metaphorically "killing that side of them". The devil in themselves that allowed it to happen. I read somewhere that in this video, each member killed their old persona to end one chapter, so they could begin a new one. Also, the guy in the wheelchair that they all stabbed was a new member being "jumped-in."
You almost nailed it, it's killing your past self. facing your fears, letting go of negative emotions. their band mate died of a drug over dose and it left them with so many demons that they didn't know if they ever could make another album. this video, and song, is a showcase of those demons. each way the died in the video is an option they chose. but the death is to represent killing that devil and moving on. its why they wear the old masks from the pervious album with their old band mate when they die! great reaction guys.

The message behind the members doing things to themselves is the way they’re scared to die or the way they want to die.The guy with the spikes, his name is Craig and the reason he has a zipper on his mouth is because he never talks, so as a way to say “ don’t talk to me “ during interviews, he incorporated that.

Every artists always creates his own interepretation/imagination of his lyrics. And if you just dive only a little bit deeper than things (almost) become clear ....

The video doesn't "fit" the song. Before this album the bassist died and they lost their drummer. So the song is about their feelings over everything that had happened. The video is them "killing off" their old selves. The two members in the wheelchairs are the new members and they were killed (jumped in) as a "right of passage". Hope this helps

basically the premis of the video is each member has a fear and theyre overcoming that sid is a dj his fear is losing his fingers mick is his rage so he tears his face off chris is terrified of birds corey is his ego so his head blows up etc...
Actually Corey’s worst fear is getting permanent writers block. That’s why he stares at a blank piece of paper. He then blows himself up because he is useless in the band now sense he can’t write lyrics. Clown talks about it in an interview for their “making of the video”
