Metal gear is inspired by James Bond Kojima himself confirmed this as fact, so yeah the spy film feel is very much appropriate for this series of games since it is an infiltration and stealth game where every now and then you fight some goofy Bond-esque villains who have their own niches and you are a lone soldier a special one who mastered infiltration being sent to deal with them much like James Bond, minus the fancy parties and martini's just the rugged action of being in uncomfortable situations and environments with the bare minimum of essentials
Yeah well the game is set in the 1960's, with the protagonist a stealth operative infiltrating Soviet territory. You becha the James Bond opening vibe was deliberate lol.
Yo you three dumbfucks in the reply - tree frogs aren't poisonous . Poison dart frogs have distinctive bright coloured skin . And I don't think Snake's survival skills were too bad .
This song hits hard if you listen to it after playing the game. The game gave meaning to this song. This song without context is nice but with context..its T_T
That's because MGS 3 basically is a bond film, if instead of a secret agent, Bond was instead a marine. And it DOES have the James Bond Opening animation in the game itself. Hideo Kojima, the creator, describes himself as 90% movies.
@@leonrussell9607 Not really since he was in The Boss's precursor to the special forces before the green berets were a thing. Then was in the Fox Unit after that. "Green Beret" was probably just what they wrote instead of "spy."
The reason it gives that James Bond feel is due to MGS3's setting taking place during the Cold War in the 1960s and Naked Snake (Big Boss) being tasked with traversing a jungle in the Soviet Union to kill the person that trained him while at the same time preventing a nuclear war. Hideo Kojima's storytelling is something else. Man originally wanted to be a director, but went on to tell his stories through gaming as a medium.
As good as Metal Gear Solid Rising is, you have to appreciate it's predecessors like Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. It's so good. Thanks for reacting to this. A freaking good game with good OST. You'll love this game series if you enjoy Hollywood espionage with great story telling. Metal Gear Solid is a game series that takes place from the 60's to 2010's. MGS3 Snake Eater is set in the 60's during the cold war. You play as a U.S. agent codenamed Naked Snake who infiltrates' the Soviet Union. There's a lot of live version and cover of Snake Eater, check them out! They're fantastic. The Brazilian game awards opening cover of Snake Eater is great.
Snake Eater really hits different after you finish the game... (shedding a single tear) Also I highly recommend MGSV's Sins Of The Father. It's by the same singer who did Tokyo Ghouls's "Glassy Sky."
The singer is Donna Burke. She's sang a couple other songs for Metal Gear, "Heavens Divide" from MGS Peacewalker and "Sins of the Father" from MGSV. They're also fantastic. Burke has also done som voice acting, notably Angela from Silent Hill 2, Claudia from Silent Hill 3, Vanessa in Virtua Fighter 4 and Virtua Quest (but not VF5) and the iDroid voice in MGSV.
Actually, the singer of the original version (the one we hear on this video) is Cynthia Harrell. Donna Burke has performed this song both live and on her youtube channel after she did Heavens Divide
The singer here is actually Cynthia Harrell. Donna Burke sings the songs in the other MGS prequel games, though she did a cover version of Snake Eater. But yeah, both are great singers.
One of my favorite from this OST is "Way to fall". It wasn't made for the game but it was used for the end credits, and it always puts a knot in my throat remembering this great game. Look for Donna Burke as well, she didn't sing this song but "heaven's divide" and "sins of the Father" are some of MGS's most iconic songs.
The game takes place in the 60s, and the song is meant to invoke Bond songs. There is a moment where you're climbing the longest ladder ever, and the vocals play, unaccompanied and it is a great moment.
1:13 Because it was inspired by James Bond intros. If you watch the video intro either the music it's more obvious. Also check out MGS3 caution theme and see if you can stop the other classic theme that is in that.
YES! I've been hoping that you'd react to this and you did not disappoint! The reason this song sounds so different from Revengeance's osts it's mainly because Revengeance is really different from other Metal Gear Games. While Revengeance is a fast-paced action game, the other games lean more into the stealth/infiltration genre. That's also why Snake Eater sounds like a James bond song. Keep this in mind if you are planning on reacting to more Metal Gear osts in general. The singer is Cynthia Harrell. I think in the live version another singer sings it (idk who unfortunately) but she still does great! Id totally recommend checking it out. If you want to do more MGS reactions, both "Heavens divide" and "Sins of the Father" performed by Donna burke and "The best is yet to come" performed by Aoife Ní Fhearraigh are awesome. You should definately check them out at some point.
I love how open you are with listening to great music alot of people look down on certain segments like video game osts or anime music but great music is great end of story appreciate all the reactions keep up the great work
You were spot on with the "james bond vibe" & "60s vibe" from the song because that's exactly what the game is about. The story is basically like a James Bond movie set in the 60s during the Cold War.
As for the games OSTs - Hollow Knight and Celeste have some great ones. All of Celeste soundtrack is made by Lena Raine, an amazing musician, she also made quite a few soundtracks to minecraft. I would recommend "Mirror Magic" and "Resurrections" made by her. As for Hollow Knight, probably "Sealed Vessel", "Grimm", "Nightmare King" or "Truth, Beauty and Hatred".
"I raised you. I loved you. I've given you weapons, taught you techniques, endowed you with knowledge. There is nothing more for me to give you. All that's left for you to take, is my life, by your own hand. One must die, and one must live. No victory, no defeat. The survivor will carry on the fight. It is our destiny... The one who survives will inherit the title of Boss. And the one who inherits the title of Boss will face an existence of endless battle." - The Boss 😢
Metal Gear game series is a homage to James Bond movies, it was meant to bridge a gap between movies and gaming, to make you play a game as the main protagonist in a bond movie. Not only the song, but the way the story is told, with the richness of cutscenes and stories add to the gamers feel of being in a movie.
The Metal Gear Solid games always had the subtitled "Tactical Espionage Action." They are the story of multiple super soldiers who hold the name "Snake." Stealth is the focus. Metal Gear Rising is a spin-off and is entirely action-based with a completely different main character to Snake. The "Solid" entries in the franchise all had epic soundtracks. My recommendations: Theme of Love from MGS4 Metal Gear Saga The Best is Yet to Come
You should really listen to "Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday" from Metal Gear Solid 2, which has a very 50's vibe, and "The Best Is Yet to Come" from Metal Gear Solid 1, which is sung in Celtic I believe!
The entire game is a huge reference to James Bond and 80's action movies like rambo.also you should definitely listen to heavens divide from metal gear solid: peace walker
theres live performances of this and its amazing also Nyan did a cover for this thats pretty nice and while were on the subject of Bond songs Enna's cover of Skyfall is divine also back on topic Sins of a Father from the series is stupid good
If you haven't already I'd love you to dive into some of the Silent Hill game sound tracks. Akira Yamaoka is an absolute legend in the horror survival genre and he kinda gave birth to the whole Lofi vibe that exists today. I have 2 recommendation's for you. 1) Akira Yamaoka - Theme of Laura 2) Akira Yamaoka - You're not here The first one is the Silent Hill 2 OST, The second one is the Silent Hill 3 OST 👍 New sub gained 🥰
Reacting to the opening - as in, the visual you see in the game, because yes, it _does_ evoke James Bond openings - and then the Live Version could make a good follow up video. And then you could react to the Ladder Climb as like an "after credits" feature. Could be fun! Singer is Cynthia Harrell, whom I know nothing about! I spent a long time assuming it was Donna Burke, who did Heavens Divide and Sins of the Father, but in truth I'm just blind, apparently.
i believe the artists name is Cynthia Harrell ....... at least the one on spotify by her sounds the same ...... also the v-tuber Nyanners also does a cover of this
This song is something else, Kojima is such a nerd and got the right people for this particular song, I think the singer performs the ending of castlevania sotn ending song too, an under rated singer imo
The best thing of this reaction is because you say that Snake Eater sounds like a James Bond song from the 60's. And both statements are correct, MGS3 is set on 1964, and the main theme is a homage to Bond movies
For a game sound-track recommendation, I'd like to recommend an old MMORPG soundtrack from the game "Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures". This game had a phenomenal soundtrack that I still remember 15 years later. They can be found on RU-vid. These 5 are the ones I most fondly remember. Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - 01 - 'Ere the World Crumbles' Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - 23 - Memories of Cimmeria AoC - Track 6: Nighttime Journey Through the Eiglophian Mountains Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - 15 - Awash in the Golden Fields of Poitain AoC - Track 5: The Arrival
Wow i just finished this game last month. So far, i love my MGS journey. MGS 1,2 and 3 OST are great. Listening to this makes me want to climb a ladder...
Donna Burke, one of the most popular game singer in the world. I reccomend her other songs from Metal Gear Solid or jrpgs. As someone mentioned Donna Burke only did a cover, the original song sings Cynthia Harrel, sorry for mistakes.
You should check out these two from Metal Gear Solid V: "Quiet's Theme" by Stefanie Joosten - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bulzfeWLs4I.html "Sins Of The Father" by Donna Burke - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5q-8syq9F74.html
I could recommend pretty much any song from Supergiant's games but I will go with The Spine from Transistor. Darren Korb is my favorite maker of music and sound design (and he does voice acting) in video games.
So what you have to remember here is that this is Metal Gear Solid, the main series, Rising is a spin off with a very different feel to MGS, Snake eater is supposed to have the cold war spy thriller feel to it which this song really does invoke in spades, it really is amazing. MSG 1 and 2's main themes are stunning as well but sadly they had to drop it cus of a rather questionable copyright dispute. 4's theme is also stunning and really does add to the feel of the story. All in all MGS's themes are stunningly good, all of them. Not to mention "The best is yet to come", that song is so beautiful.
You need to listen to 'heavens divide' and 'calling to the night' the first is from metal gear solid peace walker and the other is from metal gear solid portable ops
If you want to play MGS3 Snake Eater yourself, it actually still totally holds up to modern games. It even does unique things that other games don't do nearly as well. And the boss battles are all epic. The End's boss battle in particular is known as one of the best, if not the best, sniper vs sniper battles in any game ever. And even if you dont know anything about the series, you will be fine playing Snake Eater cause is is a total prequal that you will be able to enjoy even and understand as a first time MGS player. Now you have to listen to The Best Is Yet To Come. That is from the first Metal Gear Solid game. It is totally old school in the best way possible. While you're at it, the Main Theme from MGS 1 is great too. The Main Theme for MGS2 Sons Of Liberty is an updated version of the same track. Finally, the MGS3 Main Theme is the final and most updated version of this same track. All three tracks sound very similar, but they are all distinctly different and fit the vibe of the game they are connected to perfectly. None of them have vocals. They are pure action. The next MGS song that is an absolute must listen is Love Deterrence from MGS Peace Walker. I would recommend you find the full animated music video for the song for the best listening experience. I believe the next song is also from Peace Walker. It is Heavens Divide. A beautifully powerful song. The final song I am going to recommend is called "Two Han Princess Oishii Two han Seikatsu". That one is not technically played during the game per se. However, it is very important to many MGS4 Guns Of The Patriots players. I remember putting it on the in game iPod and running around fighting battles along side the militia in the Middle East and the rebels in South America. I would also play it during boss battles on higher difficulties cause it was good for recovering Old Snakes Psych Gauge. Plus is just a total banger!
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD ON A MINUTE, VIDEOGAMES OSTS????!!!! imo you gotta check the Yakuza OSTs, they're all really so fire. The ones that I can remember off the top of my head rn are: 24 Hours Cinderella, Reign, Pride from Despair, Judgement, Tonight, Like a Butterfly, Pledge of Demon, Twin Dragons, and For Who's Sake. I hope you do any of those, you'd be in for some hell of a ride!
What were they told when they made this song... james bond. it was intentional to be like a james bond intro, The story also takes place in the cold war so you pretty much nailed it when you said 1960s with most of the charcters being spys or double agents
This game is an Absolutely James Bond homage. The ultimate soldier, trained for both war and infiltration, in a plot with lots of Twists, double and even triple agents during 1969 Cold War. The main song is a collab between Norihiko Hibino and HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS with the voice of Donna Burke, that also made songs for Metal Gear Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
I got into metal gear games with MGS3, didn't play 1 or 2, did get overall story of the 2nd game from watching brother play parts of the game. But MGS4 is a good game to try for the overall story of all the games. There are tons of cutscenes that can go on for 30 minutes, because there is SO much story from all the games to wrap up in that game. But it's still a fun ride.
some Vocal Tracks from the Silent Hill games ( *_Silent Hill 3_* ) " *I Want Love (Studio Mix)* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *You're Not Here* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *Rain of Brass Petals - Three Voices Edit* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Oscar Wilkenson of "Interlace"] ( *_Silent Hill 4_* ) " *Room of Angel* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *Cradle of Forest* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Joe Romersa and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn] " *Waiting For You (Live At ''Heaven's Night'')* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn] ((Pseudo-live recording, not a real live recording. Also not played in-game at all)) ( *_Silent Hill: Shattered Memories_* ) " *Hell Frozen Rain* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *Acceptance* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *When You're Gone* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Joe Romersa and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn] ( *_Silent Hill: Homecoming_* ) " *One More Soul to the Call* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *Alex Theme (Machine Head Mix)* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn], " *Elle Theme* " [Music: Akira Yamaoka; Vocals: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn] ( *_Silent Hill: Downpour_* ) " *Silent Hill* " [Music and Vocals: Jonathan Davis of Korn] there is a lot here, i dont expect you to do all of them but at least one of them would be awesome.👍
Cynthia Harrell I believe is the actual singer for MGS3 Snake Eater I have the song saved in my phone with her name on it for many many years now and did a search as a just in case and her name pops up still so yeah
Metal Gear SOLID series (as a genre) are "Tactical Espionage Action" according to their creator... So - it's obviously would sound like a Games Bond movies opening :D So, if you liked this - Be my guest to react to "Donna Burke - Sins of The Father" (Which is actually main theme of Metal Gear Solid 5 ;) Revengeance was originally developed as Metal Gear Raiden: Rising (Metal Gear as well, but different protagonist, different approach, different idea behing the gameplay) Then became fully action-oriented and changed it's name. Yet MGS stayed the Tactical Espionage Action to the end ._. 5'th game in the series released not being fully done v_v which is a shame, cuz that game is amazing.
Trust me the very first time putting MGS3 into my playstation and hit start and this song comes on a swear I was like I didn't buy a 007 game I swear I bought metal gear this song blow my mind and wow she has an amazing voice
I feel like there wouldn't be a better chance to recommend Nuclear by Mike Oldfield. It was used for (not originally written for) Metal Gear Solid V E3 2014 trailer, but the original clip with footage from Nevada nuclear tests just hits harder.
You should've watched the literal opening titles of the game where this song is used (it is used again in that ladder scene you were recomended), it would have made even much more sense, because you are right, it sounds like a James Bond movie theme, and that is on purpose, the song was made not only to sound as a James Bond movie theme, it also was made to sound as if it were a 1960s James Bond movie theme. The reason is because the game is set in the 1960s, and also as a homage to the James Bond style of music...though not so much to James Bond movies. I don't know what you have been told about the Metal Gear videogame series, but Metal Gear Rising is more like a spin off game, so it only shares characaters and some other elements from the main line games, other than that, Metal Gear Rising is basically its own game on its own genere. Let's put it this way, it's like Super Mario RPG is a representation of all other Mario games, that is obviously not true, Super Mario RPG is a spin off game that shares the characters from the Super Mario games, but in the end is its own game on its own genere. From Metal Gear Solid, you might want to listen to Sins of the Father from Metal Gear Solid V.
Persona 5 - "Swear to My Bones" Persona 5 - "Our Light" Persona 5 - "Life Will Change" Persona 5 - "With the Stars and Us" Persona 5 - "I Believe" Persona 5 - "Aria of the Soul"
when thinking of video game music you gotta think of rhythm games and i gotta think of arcaeas grand finale song testify. but you can probably lump together with it also tempestissimo and arcahv or instead all the axiom songs that lead up to testify: infinite strive, world ender, arcana eden and pentiment
Bro, what is your microphone situation? I have headphones on and it sounds like you’re in the room with me and I have no headphones on at all. Teach me
