The Bee Gees owned everything. everywhere they went, their walk was 'the' power walk of that decade. They just exude confidence, its amazing for me to watch. I wish I had that confidence. Any man who can walk, sing, strut like that while wearing white jeans...that's it for me! Sorry I am a huge fan of The Bee Gees and Barry, of course. There is so very much more, I truly hope you do more and I'll will be right here for it, several times xo Luv ya Dereck! (pls do For Whom the Bell Tolls - live in New York under the bridge-you'll see Robin showcased here, it's lovely) thank you!
Yes the power walk. It helped me walk home after long shift and made me feel more confident in many times notably with my a levels and final exam at uni. This song is so precious to me.
Agree with you on the dancing… if you listen to this and don’t move, your soul is officially dead. And you’re right about the instrumentation…the production on this and all their songs is tops
How could you have never heard this?! BeeGees are sooooo awesome... saw Barry Gibb in concert about 4 years ago and he still has the falsetto 💯 amazing! So sad the brothers are gone... but just epic!
This song is an iconic classic, Dereck Reacts. The music brings you to dance. The awesome falsetto voices cause you to sing along soulfully. And John Travolta walking sexily to this song holding a can of paint in "Saturday Night Fever," propels you to fly! These were the BeeGees, Co-Founders of Disco Pop! What an incredible group of artists. Check out more of their discography. You might even sprout angelic wings!
J’adore. Tout l’album Saturday Night Fever est absolument formidable, rien d’étonnant qu’il soit la BO la plus vendue au monde. Merci Dereck ! 🍀🌼🍀🌸🍀🌼🌈💫
The pace of this song, combined with its title, has made it the global no.1 tool for teaching and learning to do CPR correctly, and thus has saved many, many lives. There's also a Queen hit with the right pace, but it's considered less suitable for heart attack situations because of its title: "Another one bites the dust"...
how in the heck did you ever miss hearing this song over the last 44 yrs? you never saw saturday night fever?? this song has got to be one of their top 5 hits ever. glad you finally got to see and react to this monster hit after all this time.
@@MrFloppyHare could be.. sometimes he has the lyrics up on his screen. if he had heard the song before then he should have said he is reacting to the video
When they called to ask them to write for this movie they were in the middle of an album and they were told the idea for the movie and they said we have some already written that might work so they flew to where the brothers were, heard the songs and it became history.
There is an excellent documentary on the planning, dances plus making of the blockbuster movie and the aftermath for those tacking part which occasionally appears on UK tv (last showing just prior to Christmas 2021).
Growing up I was around my parents listening to old school salsa, merengue on latin radio stations. Disco never happened for me, and it was music I never really sought to discover in my own time
@@DereckReacts So that explains many things LMAO, I'm french and the Bee Gees, The Weather girls and The Village People are classics in here, these are songs that give you so much joy and energy, we always party with these!
Derek I was in my 20’s when this song came out. I didn’t see the movie- it was too course for me- you’d think a child of the Summer of Love era wouldn’t think that-🙂. I did have the album. Your reaction is perfect- groove on Babe!!💛
Great reaction! Thank you so much for doing “the brothers”! I, for one, am so sick of people’s opinions and being so offended! They were and are brothers and they were and are the BeeGees which stands for Brothers Gibb.
Watching you smile in excitement listening to them do their thing was endearing! I am latino but I'm also an aussie 🇦🇺 This track spoke to you on a spiritual level! So good!
This was filmed during a break in filming of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. There’s an alternate video version where Barry has no beard or ‘stache.
The American Red Cross uses Stayin Alive to teach CPR. The beat to the song matchesthe Compression rae needed for CPR. The other song that works is by Queen Another One Bites The Dust. That matches as well. The Red Cross prefers the more positive outlook Song.
Having seen the film at its release and bought the LP (ok we were a lot younger), my husband and I used to dance (impossible not to) in our pyjamas (very sexy) !!!!
Wow, so stunning that you never reacted to this immensely iconic title? (among their three most emblematic tracks) .I was so sure it was one of the first songs you had reacted to. So its never too late... Love your reaction.
It makes you want to put on the white suit, the black shirt, the black heeled ankle boots, and spin the mirror ball. 🤩 It"s the disco turning of the Bee Gees who previously sang rather pop. The singer had the idea to change his voice by going very high in the octaves (falsetto voice) for this new style of music that was included in their record repertoire. The success was immediate, the film helping, they saw themselves propelled to the rank of superstars. Their career having started 20 years ago, they had already made some big hits before, like "I Started A Joke" (released in 1968, a beautiful song) for example, which had ranked very well in the charts. You must watch the movie "Saturday Night Fever" (with John Travolta very young et the time) from which "Stayin Alive" is extracted.
You are quite right, if you hear this song and don't start dancing/moving when you hear this song, you need to take a look at your soul. Side note (although plenty of you may have mentioned this), if you need to do CPR for someone, chest compressions should be done to the beat of "Staying Alive."
Robin has a beautiful haunting sadness to his voice. The songs I Started A Joke and How Do I Mend A Broken Heart both have to do when egos started clashing after their first taste of fame and they split up when Robin left the group and it was almost two years before they talked.
Phenomenal bass-lines by Maurice and guitar-riff by Alan Kendall. Drums? They produced a drum-loop and used it also on other songs of that period. Their drummer, Dennis Bryon left the studio because his mam passed those days. When he returned, hearing that drum-loop, he didn't want to get it out of the game. Only made some additional cymbals and percussions.
You want to dance? Go for it. Let yourself l'Oise. They play that song for the army parade. Like China and Russia. Only the best. Listen to IT. Love is the key. Julie Québec Canada
I was in my early late 20’s when this came out- groove on Derek! I had the album but to me- the movie was too course for my taste. But liked The Bee Gees. I love your reactions- get it babe-💛💛
Love this! At the time I was a bit to young to get it with me but hey; I catched up later. And how. Still want to dance if I hear a song like this one. Thanks for this reaction 🥰.
There was a film by MGM called that's entertainment in 74.a completion film of clips from MGM musicals to celebrate MGM's 50th anniversary filmed on their backlot and was one of the last movies to be filmed there using old stars to do intros I remember gene Kelly doing intros next and in this train.
I sometimes wonder how you would react to the 70's children shows, which included lots of music, especially, "The Bugaloos" .... I think they would peel your bananas!!!!! LOL PS--- in case you didn't know, Barry didn't start out using his vibrato voice. He began using that register in the 70s, and stayed with it because it became their signature and unique sound.
The bar scene in "Airplane!" introduced me to this song years ago. Funniest movie ever made. "Airplane II' very good, as well. The Carpenters liked the Bee Gees, too.
Barry Gibb has had more #1 hits than any other artist (besides Paul McCartney) between the BeeGees, collabs with Barbara Streisand and Dolly Parton, Samantha Sang, etc., writing the Grease soundtrack, etc. etc. Such an incredible talent!!!!
Elvis would have something to say about that. And they only wrote one song for "Grease" Not the whole album. Same with Saturday Night Fever and the follow up Stayin' Alive soundtracks.
You haven't done any of Robin or Maurice Gibb songs like "I started a Joke" or "Massachusetts" by Robin or "Closer than Close" or "Man in the Middle" by Maurice Gibb.
The official video fades out early because there is an INSANE high note near the end of the album version. This song was everywhere, and probably suffered from overexposure at the time because throughout the 80's you never heard it on the radio, as with pretty much all Bee Gees songs. Sad commentary on censorship.
