@@Bless-cs9ct that is the problem. You are seeing certain RU-vid videos and coming to this conclusion. Do you know the fact? Also, you feel that a person pretend from birth? As far as quantity of great songs composed, Stevie Wonder is up there with Paul McCartney. Pick anything from the early 70's and you can't go wrong. Living For The City should blow your mind.
I love the beetles but even McCartney has lesser musical talents. His multi-instrumentalism, ability to weave jazz chords into his pop compositions, and singing ability put him above McCartney.
Stevie Wonder is on another level. His music was so universal, he opened for the Rolling Stones on their giant 1972 US tour - everyone loved his music. A true genius. His next 3 albums after Talking Book (Innvervisions through Songs in the Key of LIfe) are legendary.
I was at that show in Indianapolis, Ind. It was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. Stevie received 2 standing ovations, and when his performance was completed, and the Stones came onstage, you could tell they were thinking, how are we going to best that.
For the best ever live version of this, look up the video of his performance on Sesame Street. Seriously. Other Stevie songs - "Living for the City" "Isn't She Lovely" "Sir Duke" "Higher Ground" - basically just throw a dart at his discography and listen to the one it hits.
It’s hard to truly understand the brilliance of Stevie Wonder. Definitely do more of his music. I grew up with it. You will never be disappointed by any of his work.
Sir Duke / Masterblaster / Happy Birthday - all worth a listen - and all tributes to other people. Sir Duke to Duke Ellington, Masterblaster to Bob Marley and Happy Birthday to Martin Luther King Jr. Don't think Stevie Wonder has ever made a bad record so stick a pin in his discography and it'll be a belter! His songs have also been covered by a number of artists but George Michael (you'll be blown away!) and Mary J Blige covered the same song (As) both worthy of your time.
My mouth literally dropped when you said you never heard Stevie....... one of my music heroes!!! Please explore him, he doesn't have a bad song. LJ Also Earth,Wind and Fire were among one of those who brought this amazing music to us and inspired so many that came after them.
There is a great documentary called “Hitsville: The Story of Motown”. In it they tell the story of how Stevie Wonder began working with Motown at age 11. That’s why he was originally called Little Stevie Wonder. He was like a sponge and absorbed everything he could from the Motown Band, the Funk Brothers. He quickly learned how to play every instrument and by 14 he was writing hit songs. He is definitely a musical genius. He is so talented and has won dozens of awards and Grammys. Two of his biggest selling albums were Songs In The Key of Life and Talking Book. He is definitely a national treasure. Thank you for this reaction. 👏👏
Thank you for informing others about that documentary. I have watched over and over and it still get chills. Especially when he improvised finger tips at the apollo. Even the band was amazed
Ok that’s it! 😄 Next, seriously, you must listen to “As” you’ll thank me 🥰 When Talking Book came out the music world EXPLODED no one had ever heard anything like it. We’ve all loved Stevie even more ever since.
Stevie signed with Motown when he was 11 years old. When he turned 21, he threatened to leave. His terms for staying? He wanted full creative control. No interference from Berry Gordy. Berry finally gave in. Stevie recorded Music on My Mind and from then on he proved that he was right. He became hugely successful with critics and the people, winning tons of awards - Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life, and Innervisions were his masterpieces.
Little Stevie Wonder was the heart and soul of Motown, and then went on to become so much more. A brilliant songwriter, composer, arranger, producer, singer, and musician, a groundbreaking innovator.
Stevie is a master keyboardist, multi-instrumentalist. He started out as a teenager playing drums. He often produces albums where he plays the majority of the instruments. Beyond artist. He is music.
I love Stevie Wonder and I got to see him live, really making an MLK day, and I am watching this video after hearing you watch Stevie Ray Vaughan. If you want to find out more about Stevie Ray, listen to his version of ‘Superstition’, and yes Stevie Wonder loved it, and yes they met, and yes, it was even recorded in his studios, and yes Stevie Wonder does a cameo on SRV’s music video. Isn’t that too cool for school?
Stevie Ray Vaughan does a great cover of this as well - Stevie Wonder was one of the greats, blind or not he was a master at his craft and knew how to get the job done, this song was on the radio for YEARS. Music was so much more inventive and cooler back then and viftually no special effects and certainly no auto tune or beat boxes, just pure talent
Stevie is also a blind singer. He was born prematurely in which caused retinopathy because he was in a incubator that was enriched with too much oxygen which caused his retinal atrophy and they detached.
Stevie Wonder is amongst the best solo artists ever . Here are some of his unforgettable Hall of Fane tunes, As, Master Blaster, Sir Duke,Higher Ground,For Once In My Life, Overjoyed,I Wish, and Living For The City!
PLEASE do more Stevie Wonder. I recommend “I Wish” and “ I Just Called to Say I Love You” but literally every song he’s ever made is pure brilliance. ❤
Couldn't have chosen a better Stevie song- it's a masterpiece. If you can't feel this song course through your body, you don't have a soul. He was/is a genius that could play, write and sing everything.
You have lived under a rock if you haven't heard any music by Stevie Wonder. One of the most influential musicians of all time a career spanning 6 decades. All his achievements, awards, and multiple hit records are amazing when considering he is blind.
@@jodij6280 Stevie Wonder careers has spanned 6 decades. Like saying he's never heard of Sir Paul McCartney then or the Beatles .Micheal Jackson wonder if he's heard of him maybe not it must of been a big rock.
If Stevie was British he'd be a Sir decades ago!!! Stevland Morris!! Where do we begin??? His career, talent, music, songwriting, producing, multi award winner, advocate for peace, equal rights, injustices of society, etc etc
He started out being called "Little" Stevie Wonder, because he started singing when he was 11! ....and he had a hit song called "Fingertips" I recommend it!
Some of my favorite songs are (in order): Pastime Paradise, Living For the City, Sir Duke, As, I Wish, Higher Ground, Master Blaster, For Once in My Life, My Cherie Amour, Do I Do, Overjoyed, Ribbon in the Sky, Send One Your Love. Like in the beginning of your channel, listen to The Definitive Collection album in it's entirety. You won't regret it.
Steve start has professional singing career at Motown in the 60's when he was 12 years old. So, by the time he was in 20's in the 70's he was doing some of the most interesting music of his life. All his albums are great, but the best in my opinion listen to every song on the double "Songs in the Key of Life".
Here's some classic Stevie Wonder for you to check out: "Just Enough For The City", "You Haven't Done Nothin'", "Uptight", "For Once In My Life", "Higher Ground", "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "You Can Feel It All Over". I consider these, all great songs, just see for yourself. Superstition is one he's best known for, such an awesome classic! Thanks for this reaction!
It is a little weird to hear someone say they don't know and Stevie songs. This is why I love reaction videos. Please keep looking into Stevie. Check out his legendary album Songs In The Key Of Life. You won't be disappointed
Stevie is amazing, part Little Richard, part Ray Charles, part James Brown with some Sly and the Family stone mixed in. He was unstoppable in the 70s when it came to RnB.
Sad thing to say but if this is the 1st time for him to hear Stevie Wonder he has not heard any of the other artists you mentioned. I count myself fortunate that I grew up listening to these phenomenal artists.
The drum riff for Superstition was Jeff Beck fooling around on a drum kit. Stevie heard it and told him to keep playing while he came up with the keyboard vamp. Jeff also played guitar on it. When Stevie was inducted into the RnR hall of fame, Jeff played guitar live. Check it out on RU-vid.
There's so much Stevie you need to listen to!! I'd recommend next going with Sir Duke, from 1977, my all-time favorite of his!!! And also from your list the other day, you need to listen to Dancing Queen by Abba!
In a class of his own. Top A-grade performer. More funk than a very funky thing. And as you suggested, very influential - everyone from Michael Jackson to Lenny Kravitz has followed in Stevie's footsteps. Try his tracks "Sir Duke" and "Masterblaster".
Not bad for a blind guy... Stevie Wonder was a gift that for the 60's and 70's (especially, but even since then) that never stopped surprising/pleasing you. NO one else like him. And actually had something to say!
A different feel, but you oughta listen to Stevie's song Masquerade. Also consider Broadway by George Benson. Youll never hear music quite the same way...
The story behind this song that I heard was that guitar superman Jeff Beck (RIP) was in the studio that day and was playing at the drum kit. This simple beat. Stevie came in. Some say he didn't know that was Jeff on drums. He sat done at his clavinet and started playing those killer opening lines of Superstition. At the end, when I guess he found out who was on drums, Stevie offered the song to Jeff Beck to record! Some short time later Stevie's managers freaked out and said no, YOU have to record this, Stevie! It's a hit! And it was. Jeff did record it in a band he had at that time called Beck, Bogert, and Appice. Hmmm, wouldn't that be fun to compare this version to the full-blown hard rock version BBA did?
There is NO ONE like Stevie. Being from Motown, I grew up in the 60's and 70's idolizing his music. He is revered as a musical genius with good reason.
