1) A good Radiohead track to listen to is Karma Police. I would say Creep, but that's too depressing. Radiohead - Karma Police / Radiohead ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1uYWYWPc9HU.html 2) You were talking about your shadow during your recent livestream, and I feel that I have that. Because it doesn't seem to matter what I did this summer, my shadow will say it's a failure because I didn't get to go visit friends in Michigan.

"immerse your soul in love" is the last line, and the ultimate message. Radiohead is hugely important to so many people who are dealing with mental/emotional issues, and where some people might dismiss their songs, and the band, as "depressing", they (we) find them uplifting, and even life saving. I have so many Radiohead songs I'd love you to listen to, but I think they'll come your way.

This song is one of the very few that makes me tear up, it’s so desperately sad, it’s being a hundred meters under water and seeing the last glimmer of light on the surface, it’s being unable to breathe when you’re being crushed by the weight of the world, the last line to me is both the glimmer in the darkness and the unending struggle for hope. As a survivor of suicide attempts, this song is as much part of me as my heart.
@mikmook4781
@mikmook4781 2 года назад
Their lyrics are often oblique but somehow still manage to hit home. I bought OK Computer the day it came out (on CD. Remember those? This song is off The Bends obviously) and it's still one of the best albums I've ever heard. They sound too miserable for many people. I don't know if this will make any sense but their misery sounds beautiful, and that helped me. Your feelings can just seem like worthless trash when you feel down. Something to be ashamed of and to hide. Their songs often captured how I felt so perfectly, but made something meaningful and gorgeous from such feelings, instead of trash. Don't know if that makes any sense but Last Flowers is one of their sadest but also most beautiful songs.

I agree about Last Flowers - "I can't face the evening straight" - especially in its nineties form, when it was just a song he'd play on acoustic guitar at soundchecks - like a private sadness. One song I connected to very strongly as a suicide survivor was There There, with it's simple but sophisticated message of "just cos you feel it doesn't mean it's there".

surprised that no radiohead fan has commented that thom considers it their darkest song, stating that: "It's core is a complete mystery to me. I wouldn't ever try to write something that hopeless. All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve - 'Street Spirit' has no resolve. It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end." "I detach my emotional radar from that song, or I couldn't play it. I'd crack. I'd break down on stage." "It drains me, and it shakes me, and hurts like hell every time I play it, looking out at thousands of people cheering and smiling, oblivious to the tragedy of it's meaning, like when you're going to have your dog put down and it's wagging it's tail on the way there. That's what they all look like, and it breaks my heart."

For me, this song represents the struggle against absolute nihilism, the endless darkness at the end of the road. "Immerse your soul in love"... that sounds like an antidote to nihilism to me, albeit sometimes it might no be enough for some people.

My name is Kevin and I have wished death upon myself more times than I care to remember. To this day I still catch myself saying things like “kill me now” and I always mean it until I say it out loud, in front of people. I never really came close to granting my own wish, and I doubt that I ever will, which is fine with me. But there were times when I thought about it long and hard, and there were times that I made blatantly self-destructive decisions hoping to hasten my demise. I have the scars to prove it. Radiohead didn’t save me. But they did comfort me during the worst times.

Being that Radiohead is not a go-to for me, I'm unfamiliar with a lot of their work so this was new to me. The lyrics and especially the video, was unusual for sure, but what I got out of it, was like the band was trying to say something specific for both the listener and viewer with this video. You know how in times of stress or chaos we get a sense of tunnel-vision? How after some time passes we start to see things more clearly as if the scene plays back in slow motion? This video reminded me a bit of that concept and I'm not sure if Thom Yorke is trying to convey a larger more over-arching message within the video here or if it's something more specific. The imagery is interesting though. Not a go-to band, but I definitely respect Radiohead.

The thing about Radiohead is even though many of their tracks have a sadness in them, there's also such a grace and beauty to their sound that it can be cathartic for people going through tough times and don't want "a peppy happy song to cheer them up". They want a piece of art that can humanize their emotional location. Radiohead is a pretty profoundly talented band at reaching into the dark (and sometimes beautifully warm) human emotions. For much warmer vibes in Radiohead's music, listen to "Give Up The Ghost", "Separator", and "Weird Fishes (Arpeggi)". They even have funky tracks, wild punk tracks, super experimental tracks, you name it. Ridiculously talented, versatile band.

radiohead is my favorite band, they give me comfort from their melodies, word's can only go so far, can only reach so far and for me words don't seem enough (sorry thom, you're lyrics are still beautiful and touching haha). they've managed to make music so intimate, and there's so many layers in how it's made, what it does for me, i get lost trying to talk about them because they've reached emotions that aren't translatable in words, it's unspoken, i don't know how i could speak about it. it feels like they understand, they're with me. and the band members are lovely, they're so sweet and as an artist myself i love listening to them about their projects. My respect is like none other.

I'm not an English speaker, and for me it's not about the lyrics, but about how in this video there is slow motion and normal, 1995, in one frame. This was a shock for me, I had never seen anything like this before. I was 11, and I lived in what was left of the USSR. Maybe it wasn’t anything special, but for me it was incredible. The song itself, too, without a video, sounds very beautiful. (GT)

To understand 'Rows of Houses, all Bearing Down on Me' you should walk around a British council estate whilst listening to this song on a Walkman. In Twilight. It's a statement of Oppressive Grimness impinging on your Soul and the fight Against It.

Crazy how beliefs and opinions are always motivated by cynical "ideology/narrative" when they belong to your socio-political opponents, but sincere "reason, science, and common sense" when they are your own.

Mental health is a balance between knowledge and wisdom Knowledge is dissecting emotional responses to music art politics and working with intuition to uncover the true nature of reality. Wisdom is letting go of everything and surrendering to what is And going heart forward. Radiohead is mostly dark However very well done . I have seen them live 3 times I only listen to one song from them these days and that's the numbers live tom an johnny.

I have “immerse your soul in love” tattooed on my forearm. I also want to get “Nothing to fear, nothing to doubt” from their song Pyramid Song

“Immerse your soul in love” One of the greatest lyrics ever??? Also, this was the last lyric of their album. A good close.

I think they gave you the wrong song… It’s a gorgeous melancholic song, but the ‘pretty suicide note’ is No Surprises.

Music is just music. Like everything else, each person will interpret and apply it to their lives how they want to. But it has nothing to do with the way you feel in the first place. Art is an expression of emotion. The artists emotion. The only reason we apply it to our lives is because we are consumed by ourselves. Maybe if we try and see outside ourselves and try helping others who are less fortunate and try making a difference in this world, then maybe we will feel better about ourselves and realize that everyone struggles. Where do people go for mental health problems in poor war torn countries? They don't because they are just trying to survive. They know life is fragile so they don't take it for granted. So listen to the music you want to, and cry but don't take it literally because there are lots of other things to cry about in the world.

This community and the commentary IS doing something. It's validating people. It's providing reassurance and companionship. Read through the comments, many have found it incredibly helpful. Just because someone else has it worse doesn't mean our feelings and struggles aren't valid.

I'd like to see your thoughts on Megadeth - "Skin of my teeth" It is the only song Dave Mustaine ever wrote about his own suicide attempts.
