As Gifted and Talented the DeBarge Brothers were, what's sad and tragic is they like SO MANY artists battled with Drugs and Depression. What made Earth Wind and Fire the GOATS was Maurice White told everyone in the Band including his younger brother Verdine who played Bass, if anyone were caught doing drugs, they were out of the band, PERIOD...!!! He knew what effect they had on others before THEY EVEN KNEW....!!! Life is difficult enough. We all battle though trials and tribulations however God made us strong and resilient enough to be able to deal with it. Drugs are Evil and have taken so many, so young and too early. Anyone reading this knows of a dear friend or loved one who has battled and lost the fight..... Reminds me of a song by EWF, "Keep Your Head to the Sky"....... Peace

Suzanne DePasse (former Jackson 5 road manager) named the group Switch because they would switch instruments in between songs when they auditioned for Motown. The Spring of '78 this song hit the airwaves and was an instant hit. These kids today think they're making real music. Back then there was no misogyny or degrading women. I still listen to this music to this day. Switch is still performing, RIP Bobby D! But download their albums and have a listen through. If there was one period of my life I'd do over again if I could, the '70's and '80's would be it.

That DeBarge family, never seen a family look so good on the outside, but trouble just stayed glued to most of them. I know this is Switch, but Bobby DeBarge is singing lead, he passed away way too soon. Again, trouble, bad-luck, a curse or whatever you want to call it would not leave this talented family alone.
@MaryLou913
@MaryLou913 3 года назад
Not a curse! I’d never use that word on them. They all dealt with a lot of trauma and most likely had PTSD from their upbringing. Many turn to drugs to turn the memories OFF. The next generation unfortunately had to deal with the aftermath of being raised with parents struggling with PTSD and drug abuse. There’s always a logical reason. May God provide protection, strength, health and love to the entire Debarge family. 🤲🏾

@@rahlohmcdonogh4855 Mama DeBarge turned a blind eye while the father physically and sexually abused his children. It is my understanding that the father used to beat Bobby viciously. The father sexually abused Bunny DeBarge as well as beating her. The DeBarge was a house of horrors, and I imagine music was a way for the DeBarge children to escape. Mama DeBarge may be prayed up now, but she holds a lot of responsibility for the generational demons that destroyed her family. 🤨🤨🤨🤨

I remember when El DeBarge was told t use his upper register like Bobby, and he said he didn't want to sound like Bobby. It warms my heart when I see a young man like Satori My G enjoy this genre music so much that he will let us know about his body chills. I am 60, and I get chills at times. In the music from back in the day a man was not afraid to tell you he loved you or had feelings for you. I don't hear that in mainstream music much any more. I Call Your Name was a hit right behind this one. Also Satori My G, learn how to play an instrument since you have the desire. Amazon and Walmart have instruments for beginners. Some of our students from the elementary school use them, and they serve the purpose. Keep on enjoying the music!

I just wish that he was dealt a better hand in life. He really suffered in his life and didn't deserve the things that happened to him. He was really gifted and an extremely under celebrated artist. Even though El is my baby daddy in my head Bobby was the best singer in the family...

Try to understand; back then nobody stood in front of a mike that couldn't sing! The instruments were real and on point! So we're the productions! These folks were true blue and extremely TALENTED for real!

I saw them in concert. It was a great show but it was also funny because all the men were jealous and didn't want their women around Switch. Thank you for reacting to the music I grew up on. Switch was my favorite.

A little trivia. Yes the Phillip went to the keyboard from guitar. The name Switch came from their ability to play different instruments. All the members could switch to keyboard, guitar or drums note...Switch In live performances they would switch and trip everyone out
