I'd also add Brian McKnight, Mariah Carey, En Vogue, SWV, TLC, Brandy, Tony! Toni! Tone!, R Kelly... but, yeah, one could go on a long time with great acts from the period.
@@adnap I did! Lol He was that producer at the time. Do you notice that many genre of music have that hot producer of the time. Scott Storch and Switz Beat was the top Hip Hop producers of the 90’s.
Babyface, THE AMAZING KENNY BABYFACE EDMONDS...written, arranged, produced and sang background vocals. 90's RB is a different beast let alone the artists. And honestly, anyone born in the 90's, THIS IS WHY YOU'RE HERE. These songs made magic all through the 90's.
Babyface produced this song. You could hear him in the background vocals. Tevin was only about 16 when he did this song. He has a song when he was a bit younger called Tomorrow. Others include I'm Ready, Tell Me What You Want Me To Do, Always In My Heart, Back To The World.
Tevin is so talented and worked with some of the biggest producers/artists; Prince (Round and Round), Quincy Jones (Tomorrow), and Babyface who wrote and produced this song.
I am utterly amazed that he hadn't heard of Can We Talk or Tevin Campbell. But I'm so happy that Tevin's music is being introduced to a different generation of folks. A Testament to quality vocal talent...no auto tune or reverb needed.
Tevin was a super talent that could've had an incredibly longer career if he would've had better management. He still performs today and sounds exactly the same. Check out a recent live performance. He was part of the soundtrack of my late teens...
Tevin was a special talent. Started out as a boy, and the industry was too much for him. Brilliant vocals in "Can We Talk". You should react to his breakout "Round and Round" with Prince.
I’m into heavier rock etc but there are certain tunes across all genres that are just ‘great’. The melody of the chorus and background vocals are pure gold.
That's the thing about the 80's/90's , soul, r&b, dance, pop, rock, new wave, metal and blue's were all being played on the top 40. The artists were all different ages and demographics, didn't matter. ..great music is great music. Never mattered to us. We knew all the words, artists and videos and weren't ashamed to say so. Exactly what we're missing today. Thank you for bringing it back for all of us, new and 'old school' appreciate you my brother...
Just in time since Tank issued the #CanWeTalk challenge to r&b singers! This song is classic, produced by the legendary Babyface(and doing background vocals)! Tevin is such a talent...discovered by Quincy Jones. Check out his song "Tomorrow", "I'm Ready" and the Prince produced "Round& Round".
The actual video is so so nice!! This is a Babyface jam and if you listen closely you can here Kenny Edmonds in the background. I mean his finger/foot prints all over this one as with many of songs from back then. One of the greatest songwriters of all time. Check “I’m Ready” “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do” and Always in My Heart” Tevin was a child prodigy of Quincy Jones. His voice was so magnificent from his youth. Also check out “Tomorrow” produced by Quincy Jones, that was his official debut to the world! He’s So beloved!! Wish he was still making those hits! ❤️
I recently saw an interview with Tevin. He did have a negative experience with record companies, producers etc... But he has never stopped working. He's released four albums, had success on and off Broadway, worked with Disney and the OWN network. Go Tevin. He's and incredible singer/songwriter.. absolutely flawless.
Tevin came on the scene when he was 12 yrs old. First brought to the public eye by Quincy. He was 16 yrs old when he worked with Babyface on this album. You have to listen to his song called Tomorrow produced by Quincy. And remember he is only 12 on this cut!!
90"s R&B Teddy Pendergrass "Your my latest, greatest, inspiration ". "Love TKO ", by Teddy Pendergrass, "Turn off the lights", by Teddy Pendergrass, and "Tonight is the night" by Betty Wright. Nephew, you will NOT be sorry. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
YES!!!! Thank you!!! I've been waiting forever for you to react to Tevin! "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do" is INSANE. You will be blown away. Babyface and Tevin; the epitome of 90s R&B! 🙌🏾🔥
If you're looking for 90s R&B vibes please check out Hi-Five. 'Never Should've let you Go, 'She's playing Hard to Get' and 'I Like the Way (Kissing Game)' are all great places to start.
So you haven't been seeing the viral "Can We Talk " challenge??? It's giving Tevin a whole new generation of fans. BTW, this song was produced by Babyface 🤔 😊
Dude, he was only 17 on that track! That's the most amazing part. That song was played EVERYWHERE in all the clubs, all the radio stations, it was the shyt in the 90s.
Watch the video along with the song. It brings even more to the feeling of the song, and Tevin's sweet innocence, but also swag. Tevin and I are the exact same age, and when this song came out, I wore that damn tape out! His voice is liquid gold. The memories, my heart, wooo. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@TheIcemanthomas I agree but it should be known if it's predatory behaviour..it's something I saw recently and didn't know if it there was any truth to it.
"Can We Talk". This song is classic. Babyface wrote it, Tevin sang it...and 29 years later, the song sounds just as fresh and mellow as it did when it was released in 1993. This is my favorite song, hands down. 🎶
Yaasss! Love me some Tevin. Pre Powerline days. That’s my boy.🤙🏼 And why the heck is Early 90’s R&B so underplayed. I have to go so obscure Asian sushi 🍣 restaurant just to hear it played.
Tevin Campbell's career was destroyed by the very thing that almost took George Michael down -- a cop entrapped him in a known gay pick-up spot and encouraged Campbell to hit on him as a paid proposition, and when Tevin did, the cop busted him for solicitation. Being gay back then was a death knell. George Michael never really recovered from it in North America, but he had his European and international audience. Unfortunately for Tevin, his success was largely in America -- so homophobia won and his career was effectively obsolete. Homophobia was something else 20+ years ago. It's amazing Freddie Mercury was loved as he was -- but well-deserved, obviously. FWIW, George has 4 full octaves, Tevin has 4.5 octaves in his range.
Goodness how horrible.I never knew any of this until your comment, not even a clue.Seems like I remember hearing him everywhere suddenly I did not.To say he was wronged is a gross understatement!MTV was still kinda new in KY.I was young and very limited on how much Mtv and news I could watch. Thanks for sharing this info.😞
Thank you for saying this. I'm glad somebody spoke the truth about what destroyed Tevin's career. People like to lie and say that his career was already going downhill at that time but it wasn't. This incident destroyed his career.
Hey nephew 💙. "Tevin Campbell was the truth in the day. "Can we talk" was my ringtone for years. Please, please, react to "I'm ready", by Tevin it is an R&B must. The official video is litttttttt. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤. FYI: both Quincy Jones, and Prince took Tevin under their wings, and introduced the world 🌎 to his extraordinary talent. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
This was my jam back in the day. I recently rediscovered him and quickly added him to my playlist. Quincy Jones found Tevin. Please listen to Secret Garden by Quincy Jones. This man is/was smooth. 90s R&B takes me back to a time when I really felt music and it still feels good.
Written by Babyface & Daryl Simmons and Producedy by the Babyface! You should definitely react to some Babyface, he's written some of the greatest r&b and pop songs of the past 35 years. Here are some of the songs you've already reacted to written and produced by him: Boyz II Men - End Of The Road / I'll Make Love To You TLC - Red Light Special Bobby Brown - Every Little Step
Babyface and L.A. Reid who produced this make some killer melodies (ex: I'm Ready by Tevin Campbell, Can't Stop by After 7, Every Little Step by Bobby Brown, You mean the world to Me by Toni Braxton, etc.)
The 90s R&B was about production. Not just in the songs but especially in concerts. Our style of dress also evolved to match the music and public venues.
