"The Band" was at the top of their game and just didn't feel it anymore and decided to end it on a high note instead of the path that so many other bands take.
@BobSoltis1
@BobSoltis1 6 месяцев назад
@@Robbob9933 The Band broke up because Danko, Helm, and Manuel had become heavy heroin addicts and were basically killing themselves. Robbie Robertson decided that he was going to leave the band because he thought that being on the road for so long was destroying them all and somebody was going to die. He was proven right when the others decided to regroup (Robertson declined) and Manuel committed suicide after a concert.

@BobSoltis1

It was not "live in one take". This was filmed in a studio and 3 run throughs were filmed and edited to make this video.
@crescentfreshbret
@crescentfreshbret 5 месяцев назад
@@BobSoltis1Do you know why this and the performance of Evangeline with Emmylou Harris were recorded in a studio instead of live like the rest of the performances? Was it because the Staples and Emmylou couldn’t make it to the concert?
@BobSoltis1
@BobSoltis1 5 месяцев назад
@@crescentfreshbret After the live show It was decided that the show needed more Black performers so they decided to ask The Staples to do a performance with The Band for the movie release. Evangeline was written at the last minute by Robbie Robertson specifically for the show. Robbie wasn't able to get it finished in time for the show due all the other responsibilities he had because Helm, Danko, and Manuel were pretty much useless junkies by that time. He finished it a day or so after the live show and Emmylou was asked to perform it in the studio for the movie release as well.

Can't forget Ronnie Hawkins who taught the Band members the discipline that made them legends. He brought rockabilly to Canada and never left.
@hannejeppesen1809
@hannejeppesen1809 6 месяцев назад
After they left Ronnie Hawkins, Robbie was the one who tried to keep discipline in the group, however as Richard, Rick and Levon got more and more into drugs, especially heroin, it got more and more difficult. They were all multitalented and I love them all (especially RIck Danko and Robbie), but the heavy drug use took it's toll. Robbie did drugs as well, he is very open about it in his book, but he was perhaps a little more ambitious than the other guys. He also had a young family that kept him grounded.@@Alwayswilling

Really enjoyed your reaction to this epic collab. The Band produced so much great musis during their time together, this being just one example. Mavis Staples is one of the all time great gospel/soul singers, and she definitely shows it here. The fourth singer, Rick Danko, is also playing that phenomenal bass line AND singing those incredible high harmonies during the chorus. Btw, the singer you compared him to is named Joe Cocker, not Crocker.
