Brian Wilson is right up there with history’s true musical geniuses. The Beach Boys and Beatles were friendly rivals and admirers - and we all benefited from it.
True. The Beach Boys PET SOUNDS led directly to SGT. PEPPER. The Beatles envied the tight harmonies, the Beach Boys envied the creativity of the Beatles. And this is a great one.
@@jaysontin1850 And so did The Beatles, who also emulated Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, and more when starting out. Luckily, The Beatles and Brian Wilson evolved into groundbreaking originals.
@@jaysontin1850 What did he steal? Oh that's right Surfin USA. Did he steal the 5 part harmonies, the vocal arrangements, the conducting os the Wrecking Crew........
I'm a 75 yr old white woman from a small town in the Mid West (I'm guessing very different from your background) and I am SO enjoying watching you discover, react and enjoy this California surfing music of my time. I was a classical violin major in college, so I'm discovering this music right along with you! Thank you so much for sharing your reactions and introducing me to a style of music that's new to me too!
You should check out "Warmth of the sun". Beach Boys 5 part harmonies with Brian Wilson's soaring falsetto. It's a very underrated song and never gets reacted to.
@@jnagarya519 Just Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. Brian Wilson and Al Jardine requested their moderate left-wing fans to boycott a concert that Love and Johnston were doing that involved Trump. Brian and Al are not political to my knowelge. Bruce and Mike are the most outspoken.
@@jnagarya519 they were not, I knew them..they did their job at Reagan inaug...n right wingers weren't a thing back then..tho they may be now, I hardly doubt it..
Check out “Sloop John B” which is also from the “Pet Sounds” album. Another song I highly recommend is the Chicago song “Wishing You Were Here” on which members of The Beach Boys sang back-up harmony vocals. It’s a sublime collaboration.
My parents had "The Best Of Beach Boys" CD. That song was one of my faves! "We come on the sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we did roam Drinkin' all night Got into a fight Well, I feel so broke up I wanna go home" Great opening!
I'm almost 59 and live in SoCal, Orange County, near Los Angeles. I'm an ex-surfer. Went to the beach every day I was off of school and off of work. Thanks for playing this.
You should listen to their daughters' group called _Wilson Phillips._ It also has one of the couple's daughter from the group The Mamas and the Papas also. Wilson Philips has some good songs and some covers of their parents songs like Good Vibrations. But their songs you should listen to are *You're In Love, and Release Me.*
After listening to some more Beach Boys, watch the movie "Love and Mercy" starring John Cusack who plays Brian Wilson. It's based on their true story. Excellent movie!!
Depth, complexity, glorious harmonies and melody. Add to that Brian Wilson’s production and use of multi layered instruments and you have perfection They make you smile and just feel good about yourself
TwinsthenewTrend love Beach Boys. 🥰 They reacted to this song before Jayveetv did. They recognized "Surfin' USA"! They know Beach Boys. Proud of them twins😘😘, as a huge Beach Boys fan.
Yes, over and over again. That's what you'd do with a 7" 45rpm single. With a stackable, automatic "Record Player", you could set it to return the stylus (needle) to the beginning of a 45 or 33 1/3 record and it would just keep playing and repeating for as long as you like!
For a couple of slower Beach Boys tunes, both with incredible harmonies, check out "In My Room" (which was a charted hit), and "The Warmth of the Sun" (which was just a B-side).
Little Surfer Girl is my favorite BB song. It came out when I was 8 and my little sister was 4. My older sister played the record all the time. Within a week my little sister could sing every word of it. I was so jealous but I still don't know why lol. Lord I miss those simple days. 💖💖💖
Bryan Wilson stated he suffered from auditory hallucinations for over 40 years.. He would hear these bouncing harmonies in his head, and would try and try to replicate these sounds he heard... He never could get it right.. It really almost broke up the band several times, as he was so demanding about it.. but his illness made the sound we hear... crazy... he was almost like a auditory rain man... Great reaction. Thank you. 😊
I can be in the worst place mentally, emotionally, etc, &’I’ll Hear the beach boys &’it either perks me right up or it brings out the cry I need because they are so beautiful! Their sounds, just perfection. This is easily my top 3 of theirs. It’s the best 🙂🖤🙌
Loving the variety of what you listen to and the way you are so open to different genres so refreshing 👌remnants of Glee in this track just so uplifting
You mean The Beach Boys’ early sound which has only a minor connection to their later 1960s experimental masterpiece work. That said, Jan And Dean are classics, and I love their Beach Boy collabs.
@@chronomatt6990 I just know the stories I've heard from my Aunt's first husband who was the Beach Boys' road manager for a time. He died years ago in Hawaii.
Yes the Mid-60s was a great time for Pop music Creativity - evolutionary & revolutionary. Lead most notably by The Beatles & The Beach Boys in an open and active (friendly) competition. Rubber Soul... Pet Sounds... and On and On and On...
This was a hit single off the album Pet Sounds in 1966. You need to check out from 1965 their big summer song California Girls. The 60's was a great time growing up to these sounds. Thank you
Beatles were just a bit before Beach Boys, but mostly, for their success, they were contemporaries, rivals and admirers of each other. 1966 saw pet sounds and sgt pepper
The Beach Boys released their first record almost two years before the Beatles released theirs. However, the Beatles were technically a band before The Beach Boys were.
Pretty much always do that studio version of The Beach Boys because 1) they’re not terribly dynamic performers and 2) Brian is an absolute genius arranger and producer.
Please do not compare the Beach Boys with The Beetles because it is like comparing Toyota cars with Honda cars. They both are fantastic and should never be compared.
My son and his bride used this for their first dance song at their wedding. Everyone was expecting something slow and serious, and it was both fun and sweet to see them dance to this.
The Beach boys song God only knows and Sloop John B were my two favorites. It was 1966 and my family and I were emigrating to New Zealand from England. We traveled by ship which took 6 weeks, they used to play the beach boys amongst other music on board the ship. The following year I was taking my lunch break from work ( I was 17) in Wellington and who did I see in the street mall, yes it was the Beach Boys! I couldn't believe my eyes. They were chatting to a group of people and signing autographs. So of course I joined in. I didn't want to go back to work, 🤣❤
Brian Wilson was a genius. Im 60 and still listening in 2023!! Onee of my favoritegroupsp in that genre. Yes, Beach Boy was 1st!!❤ Beatles said this song was one of the greatest!!
One of my faovrites. You have to hear "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys if you like how this song has so many different sounds and sections. It's incredible.
Mammas and the Pappas would be a closer genre of that period, than the Beatles. Check out Pappa John Phillips (and lovely Michelle Phillips) and Momma Cass Eliot.
You might enjoy hearing the process in which this song was put together: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ofByti7A4uM.html Many Beach Boys recordings were made using the LA studio musician group The Wrecking Crew, and then the band would put on their vocals afterwards.
Yes, this song came out in 1966 from the album Pet Sound which Paul McCartney thought was a great record. Paul McCartney said that “God Only Knows” made him cry.
Ahhh, always a breath of fresh air. These guys just had it. And they knew it. One of the best songs that always puts a smile on your face! Those chord transitions and those harmonies...so iconic. Brilliant.
Brian Wilson recruited the Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians, to achieve the sound he wanted. There’s a RU-vid clip called Behind the Sound: Wouldn’t It Be Nice (audio only) where you can hear them working together to get it right.
My mother always played The Beach Boys and they remind me of her. Listen to "God Only Knows", "I Can Hear Music", and "Sloop John B". Mike Love was the face, Brian Wilson was the brain, and Carl was the ❤ of the Beach Boys.
Brings back a LOT of memories of my friends hanging out on the beach when I was a teen. She was giving me clues that she liked me, but I was too stupid to read her.
