Don’t overthink it. It was literally about a day in the life. It’s about reading the newspaper, or seeing a movie or being late for work. ❤️

loved your reaction.... there are two "John" parts, with a "Paul" part in the middle.... under the idea of a day in the life... the John parts seem to about someone detaching themselves from everyday life and looking at everything sarcastically, whereas the Paul part is about someone engaged with the outside world.... until he takes that smoke and goes into a dream!

The first half of the song was written by John Lennon, the second half by Paul McCartney. They initially were intended to be different songs until they decided to combine them.

Thank you for another great Beatles reaction, Onyin Pearl! I think most of John's lyrics literally came from articles he read in the newspaper. The group then added Paul's middle part to make one great psychedelic song! Very trippy!! Please try the following Beatles songs one day soon - Blackbird, Baby's In Black, Eight Days A Week and Two Of Us!! Best wishes to you for much success on your channel!!

The long chord at the end was a 2 part sequence of events. First, there were 3 pianos: John, Paul and a third piano played together by Ringo and Mal Evans. George Martin played a harmonium. Second, after the chord was simultaneously struck on the 4 keyboards, the instruments volume will naturally slowly begin to decay and fade. As this occurred, the faders on the mixing console were slowly raised to amplify the fading notes. I hope this helped. O P, this song is hard to understand on ones first listen. I think you did just fine! Best wishes, RNB

The end of the song is epic: George Martin tuned three pianos they play simultaneously B chord to give power to the overall song

Beatles did a lot of experimental music in this period, 66-67. They combined 2 songs, one by John Lennon and other (middle part) by Paul McCartney, linking them with musical crashes. The musical crash became popular by other groups in that period. Chalk this odd song up to their LSD days.

Onyin Pearl, You listened for the first time to the greatest rock song ever written, the last song on the greatest album ever released, from the greatest band of all time. You are not going to "get it" on first listen. And don't try to make sense of the lyrics. Analyze the song from how it makes you feel. You did great for a first reaction... This song is the highest form of a work of art. And art can be interpreted in multiple ways. It means different things to different people. There is no right answer to its meaning. But this song changed the music industry with its impact. People were floored by it on first listen. There was nothing at the time to compare it to (1967). There still isn't! I will tell you you what part of the song means for me: When John says "I'd love to turn you on", most people say that is a drug reference to give you LSD. But the phrase can also be taken in the sexual sense. "I'd love to turn you on" by making love to you. And what music follows that phrase? An orchestra that goes from the lowest note on their instrument to the highest note at the end of 24 bars of music, no 2 instruments following each other, and everyone increasing in volume to the last note. To me, that is the aural equivalent of a sexual orgasm on record. It sounds like a sexual orgasm! And what's even better, it happens 2 times in the song, so by listening, you can say you've had a multiple orgasm! Would you expect anything less from the Beatles? No other band will ever come close to this achievement...
@theovanrossum8652
@theovanrossum8652 2 года назад
John Lennon said the song was mainly inspired by newspaper articles. Paul McCartney directed the orchestra just to play randomly. I don't know why really. Maybe it was meant to express a life going fast forward in a short time but you'd have to ask one the two remaining Beatles, McCartney or Starr. It was a bit funny however to see your face when the orchestra was making this noise but I understand you.
@patticrichton1135
@patticrichton1135 Год назад
Paul did not instruct the musicians in the orchestra to play "randomly" They were to start at the lowest note their particular instrument could play and "glissando" slowly go up their instruments scale up to it's highest note, but they would all do it at the same time. IF he had said "randomly" they would have just played anything they each liked and it would have sounded like a total mess. But here it starts low and goes up the musical scale to the highest note.

First two verses - about a car crash featuring Tara Browne Second verse - about a movie John starred in, 'How I Won The War Middle part - a bit of unfinished Paul had laying around that magically fit Last verse - about an article John saw about potholes in the roads and he was astounded that they counted them. There are many great things about this song, but the lyrics sound more profound than they actually are. Such is the magic of John and Paul.

I love this song. To me, it makes sense, and I‘ve never experienced psychedelic drugs. That last chord -- I’ve heard it before, I believe it just means, “The End”; “Fini”; “over”. It wasn't anything new, or weird.

You should listen to Sergeant Pepper's Lonely hearts club band and a Little help from My Friends at the same time which is on this album as well. The reason you want to listen to both of them together as they go together and it's important that you listen to them together. I am absolutely confident that you will love those two songs.

There are several different stories in this song. I'd link or copy/paste some info, but there's a lot and YT would block me for near seven hours. ;) If you're interested, look up the title and "meaning" and you should get a lot of info. about the car accident (Guinness heir, 4,000 holes in Blackford, Lancashire, etc.). Just stuff they'd read in the newspaper.

They were always experimenting new ways to music. In those years at fiest time hearing nobody understand what happens with their music, bot some months later all the people was trying to make similar sounds. Only 8 years carrer made more number 1 hits than any other band ever, and open music to many different ways. When youou hear their music today cannot imagine it already have 50 years

You are right about the sound of the car accident and someone dying that was supposed to been Paul getting killed in an accident in 1966 and he was replaced buy a-alike Billy shears the front album cover is supposed to be Paul McCartney's grave with his left-handed bass in flowers there is supposed to be a lot of clues about Paul being dead on the album along with Magical Mystery Tour album The White Album and Abbey Road album although I don't think it's true I don't think no one could replace Paul McCartney

All about observation of the trivial, meaningless, pedantic and seemingly pointlessness of life yet part of something big, colossal and climatic. Winning wars, going to work or dying unexpectedly, going to work or the highlighting of random holes in the road. The person who died in the car was someone John Lennon knew.

Yeah so anyhow the House of Lords who know that's parliament so it's describing someone in politics England and maybe he's watching an old movie and everyone else is walking out of the theatre but John had to stay to see if the movie corroberated with the book he read about it then he makes the declaration that he would love to turn you on then the orchestra starts it's ascent albeit at different rates of ascension so it sounded very atonal but thats the whole idea and then Paul takes over and gives his report about his routine had of course he was late getting to the bus Which sure he doesn't take a bus but I guess that's the character he's created now is part of the narration then he goes upstairs and has a smoked butt I believe it's not just a normal tobacco cigarette you see and then it goes into a dream when somebody says something I'm John's back since newspaper again talking about all these holes out in somewhere near Lancashire now the later reference is now we know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall now I do understand this little bit here because what happened is the Beatles played the Royal Albert Hall that somebody forgot to promote this concert and put it in the papers and so a lot of people just didn't know about it and they couldn't get tickets so there were all these empty seats at that show which is really ironic being that the Beatles were the biggest thing ever now here's something interesting that last cord after the crazy Ascension on the orchestra where everybody's playing at a different rate and they're all playing different notes and they're not in key and all that fun stuff and then they all hit The One Magic note and then an octave below all these pianos play this big major chord I believe there was 20 pianos brought into the studio to do this and they all hit the cord at the same time and that's why it lasted so long all that vibration in the studio kept all those strings moving about sustained for such a long period not hear something kind of funny I think you would have been even more confused you turned off video or the music before you heard the last portion of the song okay back in the day the only way you could purchase this music is on a record back in 1967 kiss on vinyl I'm at the end of a record there was this inner Groove and what they did when they mastered the record they put this little snippet of sound at the end that went right into the inner Groove and it would play back and forth and back and forth and back and forth unless the tonearm automatically lifted it up so you would keep hearing this snippet of sound I believe it sounds like a party somebody's having a party at some house having a good time you can hear them laughing and going on. I think they took the sound of the laughter and the talking somebody said something I think it was I could not see it any other way while someone was laughing and then they put cellos along with this banter at the party and her voice goes up and down and the cello plays the same notes that the person who is talking his saying as his inflection of his voice changes so does the instrumentation and then somebody laughs again and it just keeps going over and over and over again put on the CD version they just run it once yeah so just give it another listen and let the video or the music play all the way and then you hear this little snippet it's kind of absurd sounding it's like a lot of things The Beatles did but it was great I just you know I can't believe just how advanced The Beatles were back in 1967 I mean I was nine years old when this came out and now I'm 63 and yes I heard it when it first came out also yeah it changed my life all right dear I've been going on too long that was a great reaction I'll check you on the next drop

Also, John's part, beginning verses and last verse, came from his reading the newspaper. There was a story about a car crash that made it into his song. Another part was where he read about the English winning a battle and so on. I personally think the style of this song is dated to the sixties. I find it an oddity piece but for some reason this song resonates with old Beatles fans, probably because it was so unusual in its day. In any event, Beatles did much better music than this song.
