Gabe and Nick react to the Beatles early number one hit, She Loves You. This is a very short song but such a catchy, fun song from the Beatles. Gabe hasn’t been too impressed with the Biggest Band of All-Time. Will he love this song?

Once upon a time there were 4 young guys that really could play music and make songs that made 😅people happy for the next 100 years. Wonder why no one is really making music like that anymore.

To understand why they were so big you have to be back in that time. The music scene was totally different. Society was totally different. The world was a different place. Music has changed drastically. The Beatles weren't my favourite band, The Who and The Kinks etc were my choices but... I cannot deny that the Beatles influence changed the music scene.

Try showing him "I Want You (She's So Heavy)", "Oh Darling", and "Yer Blues". All are much heavier songs from later in their discography and demonstrate their stylistic range given what you've shown him. He's never gonna understand their significance and popularity from just some of their older hits. Among many reasons, they tackled and nailed a huge range of styles and genres while showcasing incredible songwriting and stellar vocal and instrumental performances, even if none if them were virtuosos. Paul McCartney is easily one of the most versatile pop and rock vocalists ever. Their song "Helter Skelter" is often credited as the first heavy metal song. What you're showing him is more gonna demonstrate why they were popular then as opposed to why they're still popular today.

I feel for Gabe, loving bands and people who were influenced by the Beatles and still not getting how they blazed the trail musically, digitally, culturally, socially insisting on integrated-race audiences, technologically, even in terms of speaker engineering/design that had to be hugely upgraded to cope with arenas and stadia sound system needs. As has been mentioned, you only have to listen to what were big hits before 1963 to realise that it was a leap from “Mashed Potato Time” in the States or “How Much is That Doggy in the Window” in the UK. Michael Jackson was so in awe that he acquired the whole Beatles catalogue rights.

Hey Gabe, I'm a baby boomer (born UK, 1947) so I heard these records when they were first released and I didn't get it either. The Beatles were just a covers band who released pretty little self penned pop songs. They were OK, quite professional, likeable chaps and that was about it. Eventually, in 1966, "Paperback Writer" was released. It had great lyrics and a harder edged sound. It also had "Rain" on the flip side. So, I thought, there IS something to this band!! And after "Strawberry Fields"/"Penny Lane" I was converted. You may have a similar epiphany 😉 BTW I still don't get Led Zeppelin 😱

I just got Zeppelin a few years ago. Grew up with them and they were just a part of my growing up but the guys definitely seemed to love them. I think I thought the music was a little aggressive for me as a teen. I also was not very knowledgeable about music. Now I am awed by Zeppelin and Queen. The are so multi talented. I'm 64.

Does Gabe not understand that this was very early in the evolution of Rock music? Feel like he is expecting screaming guitar solos and all that kind of stereotypical characteristics of what people expect from rock today. I am only 30 however being from Liverpool I grew up with the Beatles being played everywhere. I am very proud of the fact that the band considered to be the biggest of all time came from my home city along with so many bands over the years of all different genres, especially Merseybeat a music genre created in Liverpool throughout the 50s and 60s through the merging of British and American rock and roll, rhythm and blues, skiffle and other genres.

I agree with Gabe…I do not rate the Beatles but they were icons and are still liked by many. Not to say they had some good hits. I think it’s because I was a teenager during the Queen, Led Zepplin, Judas Priest, Kiss, Black Sabbath whose music had bite, then Michael Jackson knocked our socks off with Billie Jean and moonwalking. Hey Jude is a classic singalong, and Something by George Harrison (Shirley Bassey 1971 version)is great.😮

Some of their songs were way before their time but I have to say most of their music still stands up today, for me anyway 👍🏽you’re better listening to studio versions of some of the songs, the boys often said in documentaries that they couldn’t even hear the monitors when playing live because of all the screaming 😂the focus will be on the music too rather than watching a video of them playing it

NICK you NEED to show GABE these 2 videos of "Beatlemania" in Australia 1964... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zBhzJjjlMkE.html and this one.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hgv09bqVMig.html where he can SEE the fans reactions. You also need to PLAY him some of their later songs to show Gabe how they evolved and show the different styles they did. Play "HELTER SKELTER" and "HERE THERE and EVERYWHERE" on the SAME reaction, 2 VERY different songs, but tell him after he reacts to both those songs, that they were both sung by PAUL. Play him "REVOLUTION" (video), "COME TOGETHER," "HERE COMES THE SUN" (video), "HEY BULLDOG" (video), "BACK IN THE USSR," "OH DARLING," "OCTOPUS' GARDEN," "FOR NO ONE," "YER BLUES," "WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS," Play the ENTIRE medley on SIDE 2 of their ABBEY ROAD album STARTING with the song "YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY" and let it run to the very last....the songs are all connected and need to be listened to as one. Then play Gabe the most covered song in history so far "YESTERDAY" (VIDEO of Paul singing it on The Ed Sullivan Show Sept. 12, 1965) ALSO tell him how the Beatles had the TOP 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of April 4, 1964, PLUS SEVEN OTHER songs by them that same week on the same Billboard Hot 100.... 12 songs in all, with 2 more added the next week. The BEATLES had over 200 songs over just a 7 1/4 years period. 13 albums. Plus a lot of compilation albums after they broke up. They ALL had successful SOLO careers after the broke up in 1970. John's being the shortest since he was murdered on Dec. 8, 1980. Paul and Ringo are STILL performing (not together, only on special occasions) and still recording. George died on Nov.29,2001 from cancer.

No wonder Gabe found his ‘the history of rock’ class hard work ! Gabe you look a fun guy, but your ignorance of music, & it’s development, is so apparent. The Beatles were groundbreaking in every aspect of the word. Without them & their music, the whole field of music just would not of evolved. Really, it’s as simple as that. To be honest, you need to hear the albums rather than the live stuff, as the girls are constantly screaming & the PA systems were limited then, forcing the boys to do the best they can under circumstances where they can not hear themselves, or each other. Gabe, your attitude towards the Beatles is terrible. & then always referring them to Michael Jackson ? Jacko was a different ball game entirely. & correct me if I’m wrong, but none of the Beatles were up before a judge, being accused of fucking children … just saying 😮

@@patticrichton1135 if he's listened to a few various Beatles records and this Swedish TV show which shows a audience reaction at the time then if he still doesn't get it then explaining what came before won't make any difference because that's not why people like particular music and artists. He definitely doesn't and will not get it and frankly there's no reason why he should because he already likes particular music, it's just not what you like. It's like I've heard rap and I don't like or understand it and never will but it's down to individual taste just like many things from food to politics. Talking of which, when they played the Southern US states, at the first concert they found that they were supposed to play to a segregated audience which they refused to do and insisted that every concert had no segregated audience. Ironically they always said on stage where they got the songs that they didn't write came from and who originally sang them, such as "Twist and Shout" was an Isley Brothers hit they liked so rearranged it and put it out and said so at the first Washington Collesium concert in February 1964. Basically they took songs from records that came as ballast in the ships going between the US and Liverpool like all the Liverpool bands and as more people did this they ended up having to write their own especially when one night there was 3 bands on and all played the same songs and the Beatles were last and got booed and stuff thrown at them. At the time people who didn't like or get the Beatles liked the Rolling Stones.

I doubt, that you know the complete discography. A high percentage of Beatles material is entirely timeless. In may this year the Beatles reached with "Here comes the sun" in spotify as the first artists of the 1960's the 1,000,000,000-streams for a song. If the Beatles-material (at least the most of it) were published for the first time today, without success, that would speak rather massively against the current generations, whose stuff, especially in the last 10 years, is rather dreary. The success of Taylor Swift for example is representative of this, as her singer/songwriter stuff hardly keep up to accomplished performers a la Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Alanis Morissette etc. Hip Hop / Rap, also apart from, that some of these people are really dirtbags, have become very boring with unimaginative auto tuning tracks and these, so often stupid, show-off lyrics. Furthermore, the Big Bang of the Beatles started a lot in modern popular culture (I recommend the english Wikipedia entries for information) that also go beyond music.
@kiblams
@kiblams Год назад
@@braudabo I'll admit that some of the more experimental stuff stands out, but most of the songs were written for 1960s girls/women to scream at.
@braudabo
@braudabo Год назад
@@kiblams You know, the Beatles stopped touring in 1966?! Also, one can't write songs, to provoke hysterical reactions. That develops differently and is related to the charisma of the artists. In fact, historians today interpret the "Beatlemania" as far as the female audience is concerned, with a first "girl power" appearance. Apparently, 1960s pop/rock audiences associated the Beatles (and later others such as the Rolling Stones) very strongly with increasing personal freedom and less respect for parents and other authorities. And that in a remarkably large part of the world.
