I was a teenager when this song first payed on the radio. This brings back great memories. I was honored to grow up during the golden age of music. They have other great hits around this time.

This was the early 1960's. The Four Seasons had many, many great hits and Frankie Valle was the falsetto that you hear. Frankie has continued to perform right up to this year with a new Four Seasons backup group. The Broadway musical Jersey Boys (which won a Tony award as Best Musical) and the movie Jersey Boys, is based on their lives. They were one of my favorite groups as a teen in the 1960's, them and the Beach Boys. They continued having hit songs, even after the British invasion. Along with Barry Gibb, Frankie Valle probably had the most recognizable falsetto in pop music.

Frankie Valli was the lead singer of the Four Seasons and came out with a string of number one hits in the early sixties. Their first hit was Sherry, then Big Girls Don't Cry, Dawn, Walk Like A Man, and Ragdoll along with Candy Girl. As a young teenager then, they were my favorite band and saw them live in concert too. Frankie Valli was an amazing singer. A broadway show and movie called the Jersey Boys was about the Four Seasons.

This is another group I grew up with in the 60's. Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons had so many great hits together such as "Sherry", "Walk Like A Man", "Let's Hang On!", "Working My Way Back To You", "I've Got You Under My Skin" etc. When Frankie went out on his own in the 70's, the songs "My Eyes Adored You" & "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" were big hits for him. Also he had a hit with the song "Grease" from the movie. Always loved that he was able to sing in a falsetto voice.

The original Group was THE FOUR SEASONS! All equal! Actually Tommy Devito was the creator and leader of the band, it was'nt Frankie Valli, Franki did not become leader until the original band broke up.

The 4 Seasons debuted at No. 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their single, “Candy Girl (written by Larry Santos).” This was the group’s 8th chart entry and 7th under the billing of the 4 Seasons after charting one single as the Four Lovers in 1956 and it became their 6th Top 25 and 4th Top 3 when it peaked at No. 3 on August 24, 1963.

Wife here..My Mom and Dad had this (on record or album)..Totally takes me back to them "Dancing" especially at the ⛱Beach!..!!!...They do have Amazing raw voices!!..Frankie Valli was one of my Father's absolute favorites...Awww.., it does give the butterfly feeling

I was born in '61(yeah im a classic lol) and my older cousins listened to the Four Seasons so I grew up as a toddler singing songs like this and Sherry. I think that's why songs like this make happy. As I got older I'd find some of these songs snuck into my Black Sabbath and such play lists. Now you mentioned Four Tops, those would be great too.

A gourd. And that's it's name. An elongated gourd, dried out. Tough outer shell, with ribs or gouges cut across it's surface width-wise, and hollow. Played, with a stick run across the ribbing, as a percussion instrument. Latin music origins, i think. Maybe Cuba. Good ear, by the way, Asia.

That scraping sound is from a hand-held instrument called a "guiro". It's a popular instrument in Latin music, particularly Salsa. I recommend one day you explore some Salsa and Latin music, starting with the pioneers of early Salsa: -Willie Colón -Johnny Pacheco -Ray Barretto -Eddie Palmiero -and the "Queen of Salsa"..Celia Cruz

@@brianherrington7226 Yes it was, which irked the day lights out of Tommy, bringing the beginning of the end of the original 4 Seasons. Of course things between Devito and Massi also contributed to it. So at the end when all is said, Frankie was the only original member left after Bob went on to produce instead.

Great choice a favorite of everyone in my household back in the early 60's. That instrument sounds a lot like one Salsa singers use. In Puerto Rico we call it a Guicharo. All the Latin dance bands use it or a version of it. This brings back great memories of a simpler life. I still have the LP it was on Vee-Jay label. I saw Frankie Valli several times, his falsetto is unbelievable. Loved this, thanks

Candy Girl went to #3 in 1963 in summer. So President Kennedy got to here this probably before he was murdered in Nov 63. Music before Kennedy and then music after Kennedy when the Beatles showed up... strange how history works...the Four Seasons were major force in pop music before and after though, one of the few groups able to compete for awhile against the British Invasion [except that Motown groups and singers were the other major force easily competing with the Beatles and others all though the 1960's during that era]. Rag Doll is my favorite, had a story and a somewhat relevant message more than just "I'm in love with a girl., or my girl left me" lol

The Four Seasons were great and had a lot of pretty good tunes but this one....Not the best example of their work IMO. Now the OTHER "Candy Girl" song was pure bubblegum pop by New Edition.
