I agree with another comment how the Kinks were so underrated. They were early grunge, R&R, ballads....so much variety. Humour like "Lola" and "Dedicated follower of fashion". Social commentary like "Dead end street" and "Well respected man". My favourite song was "Come dancing", dedicated to Ray Davies older sister who loved to go dancing and who died very young from an undiagnosed heart problem....while dancing. Considering the topic, the video is a lot of fun about how things change, tearing down an old dance hall and replacing it with a parking lot and a bowling alley. That would be a great reaction to do!
Great song! The Kinks were part of the British Invasion & had a lot of hits. I especially love their music from the 60's & 70's. "All Day & All Of The Night", "Set Me Free", "Tired Of Waiting For You", "A Well Respected Man", "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion", "Sunny Afternoon", "Dead End Street", "Autumn Almanac" etc.
Hi Stan..love watching you react, especially to songs i consider to be timeless and a classic. This one by the Kinks is most certainly is. You are spot on with them having their own style. Clever songwriting that evokes such nostalgic feel for the times that have passed . Thanks Stan.
Good one Stan I am glad you are listening to all the music I loved and listened to as a young person. I still listen to all of it I can't enjoy the music of today, not enough rhythym, melody and great musicianship and of course the story telling when you can understand the words.
Ray Davies , such a great lyricist and singer. The Kinks were so great, so underrated. Maybe some time check out “where have all the good times gone” … 1965, so distinctive, later covered by Van Halen. The original is still the greatest
