This brings me back to college and study abroad . My study abroad roommate was obsessed with this song and her thing was introducing British people to Lonely Island. Our dorm was 🔥
Omfg, can you imagine his reaction to Like a Boss!? 🤣🤣🤣 We should make a pool for how many times he pauses the song, tilts his head and stares at the camera without saying anything!
"The Lonely Island" are a sketch comedy troupe who did musical shorts for SNL. T-Pain was clearly SNL's musical guest for the week, lol. "I just had sex" feat. Akon with cameos from Jessica Alba and Blake Lively was epic AF, but "YOLO" feat. Adam Levine is still my fave.
I was thinking the same thing, that either he doesn't have a sense of humor or he has a hell of a poker face, then he immediately dropped that gem of a line and I died laughing, he has a sense of humor.
I would definitely recommend diving at least a couple more songs deep before "Jack Sparrow". I would strongly recommend - "D--- In A Box" (featuring Justin Timberlake) - "Lazy Sunday" - "Shy Ronnie" 1 & 2 (both featuring Rihanna) and possibly, POSSIBLY "The Creep" (featuring Nicki Minaj), which have all three members of The Lonely Island getting somewhat equal rapping time on the track. There is technically a song called "J*zz In My Pants", which is funny in just the title alone, but... yeah, I would wait on that, and also on "Jack Sparrow" until you can grasp the full scope and know other hits from them first. Still feel a little awkward that "Threw It On The Ground" was your introduction to T.L.I. (abbreviated), but with these suggestions, I can see you warming up to them in time. One of their comedic inspirations is "Weird Al" Yankovic, so I'm glad to see more comedy representation in your uploads. (Feel free to throw in a little more rap with Eminem; I don't know how many songs of his you've done, and I might have to binge them all one of these days and suggest a few of his songs to check out. Sorry this comment was a little long, but I thought I'd offer a few suggestions.
I didn't mean to leave that one out. For obvious reasons, he very rarely does music reactions of songs that don't have music videos to them. Then again, I'm still fairly new of a subscriber. Nevertheless, I agree that "Turtleneck & Chain" is a good song.
So the Lonely Osland is a group that made comedic music on Saturday Night Live. Their videos are meant to be taken lightly and in that manner that you would see it on there.
One of my fav memories of this song was being in a strip club at the height of this song's popularity. A stripper came out dressed in a stripper version of a nautical uniform and the crowd went nuts. People were singing along and it just really cool. Probably the closest we will ever get to world peace in my lifetime.
I definitely recommend listening to the greatest music trilogy of all time: "D---- in a box", "Motherlover" & "3-way ( Godlen Rule)" and make sure to watch them in that order.
Love it, just gotta embrace the absurdity and not let go! Another personal favorite (it's hard to choose) would be Great Day. Super absurd yet hilarious. Even more so would be YOLO. So many good choices, can't really go wrong!
Everybody's going to be recommending "Jack Sparrow", and while that IS a fantastic song that you should react to, one that most people tend to overlook is "Spring Break Anthem". The song was written before gay marriage was legalized, so The Lonely Island decided to make a song that juxtaposes things that society views as acceptable (i.e. doing drugs, getting wasted, making questionable decisions, and generally being an over-masculine party/frat-boy on Spring Break because it's Spring Break) against things that society viewed as unacceptable at the time (i.e. being a man and wanting to get married to another man in a loving, happy ceremony with your family and friends). The song is hilarious, the music video has a few awesome guest stars, but the overall message of the song is one that I feel like not enough people paid attention to at the time.
Man like 10 years ago I used to listen to these guys all the time. I'd recommend watching more of these if you like them. A couple good ones that come to mind are "Like a Boss" and the Captain Jack Sparrow song.
When I first heard this over 10 years ago I took it as a joke on how so many rap videos were filmed on yachts. Whenever I want a laugh I put on that album...Incredibad.
😆 you're expressions are priceless! love it! I had the same reactions the first time I heard it. also never realized that T-Pain had such a sense of humor.
"The Lonely Island" is a group of three childhood friends that make comedy music together. The lead performer of the trio became a cast member of SNL and brought in his group via digital shorts that springboarded them to notariety. They have worked on these projects repeatedly with Justin Timberlake, and have done many other videos guest starring big name musical stars. These guys are nuts and sooooo funny.
Jizz in My Pants is amazingly funny. You can definitely see the connection to Saturday Night Live, and of course Brooklyn 99 now in the comedy presented.
Gotta go with the classic "Jizz in my Pants" next, it was one of their first that really blew up. Other good ones include: The Justin Timberlake trilogy - Dick in a Box, Mother Lover, 3-Way (The Golden Rule) ft. Lady Gaga Shy Ronnie 1 & 2 (ft Rihanna) Semicolon We like Sportz Spring Break Anthem Boombox YOLO Just had Sex And a million more!
The seriousness and gravitas with which you react to Lonely Island songs makes these videos EXTREMELY hilarious. And the anecdote about your wife throwing your phone on the ground? *chefskiss*
I doubled over at your reaction at 0:26 and when you said your wife threw your phone on the ground. Good stuff. Keep the The Lonely Island reactions going. I'm waiting to see you react to "I'm a Boss."
OMG, I finally get it. I played WoW for many years, and a long time ago there was a part in one of the raids where you and your friends get on a boat. Every time we did that part one of our group would yell out over his mic "I'm on a boat Motherf_)$(#!", and we all laughed. I had no idea it was a reference to a song, just thought it was amusing.
He didn't rhyme MF with MF. Buoys, boys, and noise all can be rhymed. "I climb buoys (mf), im on the deck with my boys (mf), the boat engine make noise (mf).
I think the joke is rap songs of the time made a big deal about material accomplishments: expensive jewelry, designer clothes, and boat ownership. However, the brag was tied to the accomplishments of the rapper. Here, its they won a contest, are doing pretty normal stuff on the boat (flipping burgers!), but still use the tone of a rapper who "made it" and is talking down to those who hadn't. Also, random silliness.
Lonely Island- "Everything is Awesome" from The LEGO Movie. Its an earworm song and everyone hated it for how overplayed and annoying it was but I loved this song in the movie and I think its a true gem.
I see this song/video as more of a vague parody. During the late 90's and early 2000's... there was an extraordinarily large number of music videos featuring the artist on a boat. I guess it was supposed to present this image of excessive wealth. It was an odd trend, lol.
Saw T Pain live when he cam to perform at a base I was deployed to. Show was great and he's an amazing singer. Got to meet him the next day and he was a crazy nice dude. Took pics with us on our RHIB too.
This is a riff on the hundred something rap videos where they are just on a boat for some reason. It's so spot on. Especially when this came out there where so many like this.
Remember Bolton says he wrote a sexy hook for the guys at the beginning of the video" They didn’t know what the hook was, hence they tell Bolton to focus up. So he changes it to forest gump and Scarface film hooks.
I remember the first time I heard this song was NOT SNL, it was in the car with my best friend and a friend of hers and my girlfriend. And she put this on and I heard it once, then I looked it up and downloaded it and listened to it until I got the words down. Then the next time she put it on I went all out singing T-Pain's part to everyone's delight.
Just discivered ypur page a few days ago. Been loving your videos. Lonely island is great.. At least sone of their stuff. Jizz in your pants is by far their funnest song. Also noticed you're a photographer. Checked out your work. It's amazing. I've been shooting for about 10 years but been taking the last 1 or so off. Gave you a follow. Keep up the great content
I remember when my sister grabbed my aux cord and used her ipod to show me this track. I had to pull over I was laughing so hard when T-Pain said "Poseidon LOOK AT MEEEEE"
My reaction at the beginning was the same as yours. Three tickets. Three people. What's the problem? Oh wait!😆 But what I love about the song, is the music is so dramatic, like there is some profound revelation coming. But no. They're just rubbing this boat trip in that kids face. In style! 😜
Just a heads up: Dick in a box, Motherlover and 3-Way (the golden rule) are connected as a connected story. And should be viewed / listened to in that order (chronologically) :)
The first time I heard this was on a CD in a friends car. I'd never seen the video or heard of it before. So I'm zoning out and about halfway through the lyrics sink in and I'm thinking, "wow this guy is way to into his boat. The fuck is going on with this song?"
This has since become a ritual whenever we take the boat out. I don't even like most hip hop, but this is legendary. I blare it on the speakers while we're getting up on plane.
When this song first came out my brother was in the Navy out with the fleet. He said the song became an instant favorite and one morning someone played it over some kind of comms across the fleet.
The way I've seen it described is The Lonely Island (a group, which members contribute to each track varies) parody genres rather than specific songs like Weird Al does, so each track you hear/see will be sending up tropes from a given genre, an absurd exaggeration of it, while still sounding very much like it.
