It almost feels nowadays that the Ruff Ryders never existed, but from 1998 until about 2004 they were the most important record label/crew in hip hop, but it’s never talked about. I still listen to Ruff Ryders vol I through IV on a weekly basis. To me it felt like they combined the spirit of wu tang, bad boy and def row in one record label. Like i said, it still annoys me that it seems like they’ve been forgotten

@@smellybumcheese6210 you’re an even bigger fan than me I don’t remember if I ever listened to Vol 4 but you’re right but I would say till about 02 is when they fizzled out I don’t know if you live in NY though maybe you have a different perspective but it seemed at that point the Lox were focusing on their solo careers, X kinda went awol and it was the height of his problems, Eve went the acting direction, Drag-on’s buzz fizzled and none of the young up and comers ever really blew, plus the South was just beginning to take over, but they were the top dogs in the game for that time period even more so than the Roc

@@johnb7053 vol IV wasn’t the best, but there was promise on there. The original heads had some good tracks on there and some of the new artists had a lot of potential. But you’re right, X was having his problems, Lox we’re going solo and Drag and Eve took their eye off the ball. But still, at the time Ruff Ryders seemed like they were gonna be around for the long haul. I think the problem was that they didn’t put enough effort into the new generation with rappers like Jin, Flashy, Infa Red and Cross and kept leaning on X to bail them out. As soon as he started blood line X didn’t seem to be so committed to the R and he just fell off. Grand Champ in 2003 was the beginning of the end. It didn’t sound like DMX anymore. I think at that point the best artists on Ruff Ryders weren’t being managed right, so the lox found various alternative labels, Eve went to aftermath and drag on didn’t put the work in to follow up to the opposite of h20. I agree though that up until 2002 they were untouchable, but there still seemed like there was a potential for a second coming. I just think Dee and Wah rested on their laurels and assumed they were here to stay and didn’t keep the label fresh. Im from the UK btw. I’ve been a hip hop fan ever since i heard a tribe called quest back in the early 90’s. Im nearly 39 btw, and I can’t stand 99% of the new hip hop that gets released. My nickname is old man ignorant 😂

@@smellybumcheese6210 lol I was going to compliment that name that makes it even better, I’m with you though I’m 38 I’m not half the fan I used to be a lot of the mainstream stuff I hear is embarrassingly bad and I just lost the desire to check for anything new unless it’s some of my old favorites like Nas and I like Czarface’s new album and a few others but there really isn’t much I’d rather go back in time there’s still plenty I haven’t heard I like those underground 90’s mixes you find on RU-vid that’s more up my alley

Absolutely...Havoc one of the best and yet most slept on Producers. I have all Mobb Deep albums and still can't believe how he reinvented himself for every album and still carried a signature tone.
