This was a TRUE "blast from the past." One of the most classic, beautiful songs ever recorded! I haven't thought of the Platters in so long. It was GREAT to hear this again. (I had no idea the song was as old as it is. I thought it was recorded in the 60's. But I wouldn't be born until a year after this came out. Wow!) Their music was on the radio a lot through the 60's, as I recall, but I don't think I heard anything about them, too much, after that. What a shame. They were SO talented! Loved your reaction!

Brings Tears to The Eyes. The Platters from 1955 to about 1960 are the best years. As you know I'm sure most of the groups and individuals of that time and some over the years had their start rooted in the church choir. Clean and Clear with harmony of sound and movement. Heartfelt. Soulful. Conveying the song empathetically to the listener. Practicing during the week in the church basement for Sunday Morning Worship. Thank You Jesus for the Gifts you Give.

The Platters were an iconic vocal group in their time. This song made number 18 in the UK chart in 1957. They had nine songs thst had chart success in the UK. "Smoke gets in your eyes" hit the number one spot both sides of the pond in 1959 and was used in the early 1970's TV commercial for heater fuel. Great to hear it again and to see your reaction to this 1950's classic.

I love how you appreciate the older gems of music THE MILLS BROTHERS are so wonderful , It's hard picking a first song to recommend "PAPER DOLL" , "TILL THEN" The brothers started in the late 1920'S and preformed with a few lineup changes into the 1980's . When an artist sings a song many times in their career one can love each version for different reasons. So I would start in the 1940's with TILL THEN
