John Taylor is the bassist. He's wildly talented and when this was filmed he had only been playing bass for about three years or so! This guy is a phenom and is still doing it 40 years later and still creates amazing baseline!

No. He'd been playing bass for 7 years at that point (John & Nick started the band in 1978 and John had switched from guitar to bass).

Oh God, I worshipped these guys, you don't understand. From when I was 14 to 17, I lived for them, lol. Each album was a change up, and we waited desperately for each one. They were passed off as pop by a lot of people, but they were different and really talented. Simon was an amazing frontman, vocal talent and charisma in spades, Nick was a ground breaking keyboard artist, and John killed bass like no one else. Sorry for going on and on, thank you for this, loved it.

@@jacquiemacdonald7857 Hey fellow Duranie! I was all about Nick and Simon but my best friend would have fought you to the death for John, lol. One night when we were 16 and in a club in Collingwood (Melbourne, Aus. as I don't know where you're from) to see the band Pseudo Echo, we were floored when during the first set break, John Taylor strolls in, with a bit of an entourage and they stand up the back chatting and watch the next set and then leave. The whole time he was there, I don't think she could breath, but we sort of stayed on the dancefloor nearby. When he left, he left half of his drink sitting on one of the speakers, it was vodka and orange juice of all things, so she bolts over, grabs it stares at it for a minute then drinks it and shoves the glass in her bag and took it home, never washed it. She still has it, it was so surreal, we laugh about it now. Take care, sorry if I rambled on but I thought it was a funny story.

One of the most iconic bands of the 80's that are still going, brilliant song along with Come Undone and Ordinary World in the 90's, What Happens Tomorrow, Finest Hour, Reach Up For the Sunrise and Falling Down from 00’s are good songs, Girl Panic! (Especially the video), The Man Who Stole a Leopard, Too Bad You're So Beautiful, Pressure off and Only In Dreams in 10's are good and then of course this year, the new album FUTURE PAST should be listened to from start to finish along with the extra songs which makes the flow of the album much better than the normal version

And they developped on and on and on thru the decades. Notorious and the corresponding 1987 world tour is so different to the next one (Big thing), so is their 90's material. Quite nice to see the circle closes of their initial sound of 1981 and 1982 at their AYININ album amd latest piece of artwork Future Past. Permanent evolution. The chameleons of music industry. Guess there is a parallelity of the changing styles and sounds like Bowie did it, one of there largest influences.

Agreed 100% with every single thing you said in this reaction. I love this song and your comments and reactions while watching and hearing the song reminded me of how into this song I was when this song originally was released and shot to #1 here in the U.S. As much as I love this song, I think they have an even better track than this and you mentioned it when you were reading the info about this song at the end. The other song which was their first song to hit #1 on the UK charts is called “Is There Something I Should Know” and I think is their best song. It’s definitely a song you will appreciate because of the amazing bass and synth that drives the song as it progresses. And the official video is a brilliant representation of the 80s visuals which were almost as important during that period as the music. Hope you react to it as you choose more iconic Duran Duran tracks to react to and there are many of them.

This was the first song I ever heard of Duran Duran when I was 11 years old and I fell in love and there was no turning back.. I even named my son Duran!! 😁 They still tour 10 months a year to this day and I have been following them around the world full time for the past 18 years.. I go to over 30 shows a year and every show feels like the first one.. Greatest drug in the world is Duran Duran live and it never gets old 😍 I totally get the love of this song.. This made me smile when you said look at those people going nuts.. Giggle.. Ohhhhhhhhh if you only knew what it was like to live the craziness of Duran Duran in the 80s.. They were called the 2nd British Invasion and were bigger than life! There is so much more to check out of them you will love.. Try Wild Boys and Rio and Careless Memories and Notorious and if you haven't heard their James Bond theme song A View To A Kill you haven't lived.. You must hear it 👍 and Simon Le Bon masterpiece Ordinary World.. they have over 40 years of music and so much to dig into.. You will love them all

Hello Dereck, It's not a true live (or at less, a live recorded for the need of the video), it's the Official Video outed at the time, they don't really play, it's a studio record with the add of the crowd open at choose moment. Moreover, several video sequences are added, which make it clear that's a clip. It's their first real big international success which was released in 1984. I remember seeing this clip for the first time with friends at my house (I was 16 years old, my parents had gone on weekends) at the French program "Sex Machine" which aired on Saturday in the second part of the evening. From the first listen, we flashed as much on the music as on the rather spectacular clip. Therefore it's their first success and surely their biggest hit. Thanks for this reaction,

The Reflex is the band's biggest hit on both sides of the Big Pond. It #1 on both the US and Uk Charts. The music video was their first live performance video. The version of the song you hear is a remix and is slightly different from the original album cut The band didn't know whether on not to release it as a single. Until producer Nile Rodgers (Chic) got ahold of it. The rest is history. The live performance was from their1984 world tour. It was part of their concert video released later that year titled "Arena: An Abserd Notion". It featured more a conceptual storyline rather than a straight forth concert video. It was released at the same time along with their doco of the concert tour called " Sing Blue Diver". I remember watching both when aired on MTV. Oh, it's on the live album that came out too juts entitled "Arena*.

The live footage was filmed in Oakland, CA on Friday, April 15, 1984 when I was 11 years old. How do I know? Because I went to the concert the night before! I was so bummed when I found out! 😆

Actually it was real...how do I know..I was there but the water (waterfall) was actually digitalized . I was 12 rows from the stage. It was a remixed version, but they played the song in that style as it was the version played on the radio. If you look at any of their live performances of the song, they play the remixed version. The original album cut was not as powerful as this version IMO. Duran Duran puts on an excellent live show. I have seen them 16 times. Last October 22nd, the band launched their 15th studio album called Future Past, it marks the bands 40th Anniversary! If you have a chance check out the video for the song Anniversary from the album, see how many celebrities you can spot. Excellent reaction. You brought tears of joy watching you react to this smash hit.

The 80s were good with a boombox and 6 double D batteries to handle the bass. ;) man it was a good time to be alive.
