The lead vocalist is Bobby Smith. Purvis Jackson provides the deep voice on the second verse. Evette Benton is the woman you hear at the end of each verse. But during live performances, that part was covered by Henry Fambrough.

The lead vocalist on this one is Phillippe Wynne. Bobby Smith and Wynne shared the load on lead vocals for their biggest hits. Bobby sang lead on Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, and others. The two of them were a 1,2, knockout punch for the group!

Love your reaction to the music and vocal stylization - would love to hear some talk about the story of the song too. One thing about this song that I love is that each different man/voice represents the appeal to all men - we all have experienced those very feelings at one time or another. Each voice invited a different man to relate to the story in his own experience.

Love the Spinners! That's Evette Benton singing the female part on the studio recording. Harry Fambrough lip-synched that part on TV and stage performances. Please check out the Spinners beautiful and romantic hit song called "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" from 1972. It features Bobby Smith again on lead vocals. And the aforementioned Evette Benton, Carla Benson and Barbara Ingram (known as the Sweethearts of Sigma) sing background vocals on the chorus. It is one of my favorite songs of all time!
