TOOL - welcome to the rabbit hole. 2 rules 1 - NEVER watch a visual video first 2 - lyric versions are an added bonus. This band is mentally DEEP. Worth every second
I agree with the comment below mine.@@StaxReacts #1 - with lyrics - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xM-1gj09Lso.htmlsi=0k_wXlS5NuKmqqYo #2 done LIVE - (yes, he is playing the character in the song (performance) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u7lweNCCwS0.htmlsi=Mp8kPHQO2ssIhR6q And, Pneuma - with lyrics first, then drum cam - you'll either be impressed or confused - as someone capable of playing guitar and bass guitar, i still go back and forth between impressed and confused.
I agree with rule #1 no matter what band, I get that fans want someone to check a live version but without hearing the studio tracks first you don't have a comparison point
Great to see you do this song! If you do any more Tool reactions, here's some general suggestions... 1. Never react to the official video for any songs. They're just weird and distracting. Lyric videos are fine to react to. 2. It's generally best to not to react to a live version unless you've seen the original song. 3. Don't worry about figuring out the meanings on lyrics so much. In fact, if you want to read ahead what the song is about ahead of time, that's fine. The singer/writer is incredibly smart, and his lyrics are pretty deep or have references that can easily be missed. 4. If you don't like something, don't worry about it!
Thank you so much. I’m expanding my range right now and I do enjoy the rock productions for sure. I think with rock it’s more of the instruments for me than the lyrics but I do pay attention to the lyrics. This one was a banger but I wish I could’ve caught more. Thank you for the recommendations on what to do I greatly appreciate you.🙏🏽❤️this was a very real comment
@StaxReacts this guy couldn't have said it any better. Always lyric videos with Tool. The only exception I can think of is their song "Sober" is a good one for their live video.
I'll add to the "if you don't like it" statement and just say that the second half of that should be "listen again". If you still don't like it listen again. Tool songs grow on you. Ones you don't like today will be your favorite tomorrow. Either way the Tool Army is here for it.
@@StaxReacts I'd say you are about 1 week from doing a RUSH song and then it's really on! Your subscriber count will go 6X if you understand their depth of talent
Time to spiral out and jump head first into the tool rabbit hole. All their songs are like stories they start one way and they evolve from there. The lyrics are always up to your interpretation they can mean several things at once. This is without a doubt one of the best bands of all time from the production to the lyrics to the people in the band it's all top notch. Their music is like crack once you get a taste you'll keep coming back for a fix. They have a very loyal fan base that can get a bit overwhelming at times but they mean well.
You need to react to their 1993 live performance of “Sober”, Maynard pours everything into that song and no, he’s not altered, he’s embodying the lyrics in such a powerful way that people who don’t know better think he’s high or drunk but he’s just a genius. The entire band is unreal. Pneuma drum cam is a must🤯But also, after you listen to 46&2 you need to check out “kids cover 46&2 by Tool”. You won’t be disappointed. I found you through your Beastie Boy videos, you need to check out “Sure Shot” and “Get it Together” ft Q-tip🤓😻❤️
YAAASSSSS!!!! So right-it is an absolute must-your mind will be blown 20 seconds in at the most and will need recoup time by the end to process the experience 😳🥰🤯🖤
TOOL is meant to be listened to over and over again. I've been rocking to them since the 90's, I still learn new things about their music. Welcome to the TOOL army, here's your card.
Oh also Tool is great to go down the rabbit hole on. The only piece of advice I have is to not watch the music vids with anything - they'll just distract you from the music. For a few other bands to check out - Spiritbox, Sleep Token, Bad Omens, ERRA, System of a Down.
I see that someone has already suggested the Danny Carey drum cam of Pneuma and I will second that recommendation. Tool is amazing in general but the drum cam is straight 🔥!
Oh shit, here we go. This band is more my home zone. I bet you fall in love with them, between the intensity, production, lyricism and crazy ass intricacy in the rhythm section ...it's just some serious musicianship here. Coolest thing: Maynard is the singer, he writes the lyrics based on listening to the mostly finished instrumental song, so the sounds inspire the words. You can definitely feel this music viscerally. Every track they've released has truly interesting stuff happening. If I had to pick one to react to to get a full clear image of the band, I think it would have to be the song Lateralus. It's just too good. Lyrics are in the fibonacci sequence on that one and it gets all sorts of crazy.
Them boys get AFTA IT. Love to see it here. Honestly, TOOL reactions is what drew me into the reaction genre on RU-vid in general, I think it’s literally my favorite thing to watch when people experience it for the first time, because I know when I find new music that changes my life the moment that I hear it is a very very special moment.
Always love to see folks hear their music for the first time. We all experience it all over again with you. Brilliant musicians all. If you do more, we’ll come along for the ride 😊
even when you're quiet it's still a great reaction because it's real! no apology is needed, man! just discovered your channel and love it im a huge fan of Tool.
Doing Tool, eh? You'll be at 10k in a week. Very unique band, their production is top shelf. Not a lot of HQ live stuff on YT. I recommend "Forty Six & 2," "Aenema," "Eulogy" and "Vicarious." If you're branching into rock I would also suggest Pink Floyd "Time" and Sleep Token "Take Me Back to Eden." All three of these groups make incredible and unique music as well as have masses of fanatical followers. Get them views, lol.
Have loved tool since i saw the video for their song Sober in ‘93, I was 13. I’m 43 & they are still my #1. Korn is my second fav band. you did a great job picking up everything! I’m so excited to watch you become a fan! Let the music move you, relax, enjoy & spiral out 🌀
Great reaction. Actually one of the best I’ve seen to someone listening to Tool for the first time. You got a lot right away. Earned a new subscriber today. Can’t wait to see more.
Look at you replying to so many comments! Tool is different and not the easiest to digest for many but the reward is greater for those who get invested. All the best ✌️
Very impressed by your grasp of the lyrics. I've seen many reviews of this song, but few are able to comprehend the story as they are taking the instrumental journey. I noticed a few comments recommending you react to Sober, and I strongly agree.
Id like to check in to say the tool army is watching. Aenema is the most savage diss track about rhe city of los angeles youll ever hear. I have multiple lines from that song tattooed on my body. I would love to hear you listen to that track
I think the vast majority of people won't know who L. Ron Hubbard is. And even then, most won't know the story of Maynard making sheep noises in concert after they had found out that the church of scientology hoped to use the concert to recruit people. Aenima is easily a top 10 song of theirs for me.
Love audio-only versions. Best way to immerse and vibe Tool. This one's pretty straightforward: hypocrisy, the system... plus Maynard adding a top layer of weed/pot for fun. One lyrical tidbit is the "cozened indigo" can be a sort of shorthand for people in power with fake "lemon juice" tears of empathy. The story is that they came up with the name "Tool" for fans to use their music as a tool--to be used to get whatever they need from it. (That and they get a kick out of watching their fans in their Tool t-shirts showing off their a bunch of "tools.") If you’re into the lyrics I’d go “Eulogy.” Or whatever. Your favorite Tool song is the next Tool song. Here for them all. Subscribed!
Tool is an amazing band, I hope to see you go down the rabbit hole! Two videos I’d highly recommend would be the live version of Sober, and Danny Carey’s Pneuma. Both are phenomenal performances live
I’m new to your channel but I loved the reaction. I love watching new tool fans be born. Tool is an experience. You should really dig in deep. It will change you.
You should definitely check out some Primus! They’re on a similar Progressive Metal and Funk. Les Claypool is a top tier bassist. And, Primus and Tool have toured together in the past.
There is one song they do that is so crazy and so thought prevoking is unreal. That song is Lateralus. Is not only a brilliant song but its also based mathematics specifically the Fibbonaci sequence. Fibonacci numbers are a sequence in which the next number is the sum of the previous two. For example: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 0 + 1 = 1 1 + 1 = 2 1 + 2 = 3 2 + 3 = 5 3 + 5 = 8 The sequence can be charted out in the form of an ever expanding spiral -- also known as the Golden Spiral. So what does this have to do with Tool? In 2001, Tool released the album Lateralus which is heavily based on the Fibonacci sequence. The actual song "Lateralus" follows the sequence very closely. The song begins with the lyrics (numbers denote syllable counts): 1 - "Black" 1 - "Then" 2 - "White are" 3 - "All I see" 5 - "In My Infancy" 8 - "Red and yellow then came to be" 5 - "Reaching out to me" 3 - "Let's me see" As you can see, it follows the sequence and when it reaches 8, it proceeds to go backwards. How amazingly deep is that. I cant think of a single song by any band ever that did something like this....
Wow my friend. I really enjoyed yr reaction. TOOL is w/out question THE MOST highly intellectual band in any genre outside of classical. Welcome to Progressive Metal They most definitely play on words with double entendres and assonance (ex. bellow, below) so decades later you can relisten and get a whole different relevant interpretation of the song!? They format their songs using sacred geometric polyrythmic drum patterns w/complex time signatures throughout the songs. Ment to tickle the brain n fire of neurons to increase ones intellectual understanding while singing about opening your third eye, raising yr vibration to other dementions and a Christ consciousness. To better ones self. It's the best sex your mind ever had! I promise eargasms! Oh, you nvr have to apologize for not talking much listening to TOOL. In fact WE understand the BEST way to listen to them is not talking much if at all. Close your eyes, put on headphones n just let the music "take you there" cuz it DOES! Its really very funny how ppl seem to inevitable do that n talk about the visuals they get. That n how ppl "hold their faces" too. The music just sounds SO FULL n satisfying when it smacks you in the face! Its rediculous WIZARDRY when you remember that magnificent sound is only from 3 instruments! Bass, drums n guitar! Then Maynards throat lol. Its impossible to fathom. U will enjoy this experience like NO OTHER
Welcome to TOOL. Loved your reaction and I’ve seen a ton! If you react to TOOL the TOOL Army will follow. You can’t go wrong with any track! You have a new sub. Spiral Out!!
Been waiting for you to get to Tool. Full album listening is an elevating experience. You'll continue to grow your following by reaactig to Tool - we love to watch newbies mind explode. Let's get some foundational UK punk and go live Sex Pistol's. Anarchy in the UK is classic, Pretty Vacant, Submission, EMI, God Save athe Queen... just be sure you can SEE them perform. They were as wild as the crowd.
This was a great reaction! You grasped the meaning of the song right off the rip. The lyrical content is based around the old saying "'The pot' calling the kettle black". Just calling out hypocrisy in people, and how people are fake. My favorite band, welcome to the worm hole of Tool, you're gonna love it!
@nappdogg8 You're correct of course, but in Tool world there's rarely 1 meaning only...apparently its also a retort, directed at Jimmy Page for being upset that Tool had re written the lyrics to No Quarter, plagiarism was levelled at some stage, which gives us the "who are you to wave your finger...YOU were eyeballs deep in Muddy Waters" (Blues artist). This has never been officially confirmed 😉 😅😅😅
You just stepped into a new world brother lol. TOOL is an experience. I say do TOOL's "Vicarious" next. There's levels to TOOL and this is a simple one with powerful lyrics
Every single band member is one of the best in their instrumental field/vocals if not the best. Adam Jones the guitarist is top 100 all time, Justin Chancellor the Bassist is absolutely filthy and Danny Carey, all 6’ 8” of him is easily the best drummer alive right now even at age 62. Danny is known as the human octopus and can play 4 different beats at the same time, he’s unreal! Singer Maynard James Keenan has crazy vocals and is extremely deep with the lyrics! Every tool song is different but every tool song takes you on a journey. The best tool song is the one you are listening to! Keep going on the Tool adventure and their Army will follow! Have fun with it!
