You should show her Dee Snider and John Denver testifying before Congress in 1985 on proposed legislation to put warning labels on music. But make sure she hears the song Rocky Mountain High first to better understand Denver's testimony. A clip of Snider's comments on Denver's testimony is also priceless.
Completely agree. He owned Congress. He knew what he was talking about and he did it on his own terms. Hair all over the place. Denim instead of a suit. He schooled the lot of them. P.S. show her that clip from National Lampoon's Animal House 😂😂😂
I was going to suggest the exact same thing Robert!! People mistake metalheads (or even hard rock) for "unthinking Grunts and Uggs " all the time and it is so very, very far from the truth. Simple fact of the matter, don't try to fight with a single Gen X'er, let alone a group of us, cause we're not gonna take it.
Dee Snider is absolutely brilliant. He went into the hearing and they expected a stoned idiot but they got one of the most well mannered and well spoken people that are in the industry. It was a sight to behold.
Someone once called the band "glam rock". Dee, in his infinite wisdom and humor, replied, "Glam rock means glamorous. We're not glamorous, we're hideous! We're hid rock!!"
I bought a Twisted Sister pin, put it on my uniform, and sent a picture to my boss. Him being just a bit older than me, he immediately got the joke, and replied properly!!
I listened to Twisted Sister as a teen loved them then and still do. Dee's congressional testimony was off the chain have to check that out, he's one intelligent man. Alexis looks like you're about due to delivery your baby, bet your excited congratulations.
I remember watching these guys when they opened for Iron Maiden in Seattle. Someone kept throwing their boots at the bass player, he ignored at first but then started throwing them back at the crowd. 😊
In about 1992, I had crimped my long hair and gone out to a local bar, and some guy walked up to me and told me that I looked like Dee Snyder. I never have figured out if it was a compliment or a put down! LOL! fun music and fun times!
The 80s were the best time for campiness. Having lived during that period I can say for certain that MVs such as the Twisted Sister did not raise any eyebrows at all. Guys in rock bands all had long, curly, messy hair, and many of them had mascaras as well. The song was great and that's all that was needed to make it a hit.
Great watch again. The look on alexis face is comical. Dee snider has a very underrated voice very intelligent man. The dad in the vid played the vampire in Buffy the vampire slayer. Keep up the great work
What always comes to mind is when they had the cameo in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. I think it was the song “Burn In Hell” that they were making a video and here comes Pee-Wee, always cracks me up!!
You can't stop rock and roll. We're not gonna take it. I wanna rock stay hungry, I can. Go on forever with how many cool songs you guys ought to check out. D Snyder's superstar lineup ban for his album for the love of metal warning. Every song has attitude and is 10 times heavier. Then twisted sisters material
"We're Not Gonna Take It" was based melodically on "O Come All Ye Faithful." Twisted Sister even released a version of "O Come" 20ish years later. The father in the video is based on and played by the same actor as a character in _Animal House._
Love this band. I saw them in concert in Binghamton NY. I was clos to the stage taking pics on my disposable camera. Didn't have cell phones. Avery pretty girl that was on her boyfriends shoulders, asked if I wanted her to take pics for me. I gave her the camera, and didn't care if she emptied the roll of film. I got great pictures. One of my favorite concerts!
Great reaction!! My sister got me into Twisted Sister when I was 6 (she was 19). She got this cassette, and I won't deny, I was more than intrigued at the cover art - this guy in makeup, black & pink spandex, chewing on a large bone! I was immediately taken with this song - played it ALL THE TIME! As I got more into the album, realized that this really isn't the best song on it! Tracks like Stay Hungry (title track), The Price, I Wanna Rock, Don't Let Me Down, Burn In H3ll - all WAY better - but it was the MTV era, so this video got TONS of play! Love me some Sister!! Cheers!
Snyder did a slowed down, "power ballad" version of this song, and the video was a lot of imagery involving cancer patients, survivors, and family members. I don't know how they did it, but thew song was beautiful, and it made me more than a little misty-eyed. I recommend checking it out, if only for yourselves. It was surprising.
"...I have a smoke show of a wife...", LOL! 😂 My favourite part in the video is them all trying to fit into the window 🤣 Hard to take their actual music and lyrics seriously with a video clip like that one attached to it! 😅
I didn't have cable but my cousin did. I saw this at his house and laughed so hard. I imagined my mom flying out the window instead of the dad in the video (I was at odds with my mom). I loved this video.
Dee Snider is actually very educated, handsome and gentle soul, which contradicts the band persona. I loved Dee…. Especially when he testified in Congress about record ratings on record albums. He made a total ass outta Al and Tipper Gore. There is another video with Dee singing this song… about childhood cancer. His friend, Criss Angel’s baby son was diagnosed. The video will give you chills. Hope you check it out!
Back then, our anthem was, "We're not gonna take it!" Now in 2024, our anthem is, "We will absolutely take it, use a BOGO coupon, and be proud of taking it!"
Funny Alexis compares the video to drag. Dee Spider used to say in interviews that if you want to shock the audience and you're a big swarthy guy, what do you do? You come out in full makeup and wearing a nighty. That shocks people! Heavy metal was always meant to shock. Alice Cooper did it first, then kiss, Twisted, etc. Motley kinda bridged the gap between shocking and glam. Incidentally, glam still shocked many people, including my dad. 😂
I was just like Burch in the beginning. I was saying the lines with the video. I love Twisted Sister and I loved that they used the Douglas C. "Niedermier" character from Animal House.
If I had to pick just one song from the 80's to represent us all, this would be it. It still kicks butt today. We supported each other back then and just because the times have changed, doesn't mean it changes us GenX. Just Subscribed to help out my fellow X'er out. Have fun and looking forward to seeing more in the future.
B.B. King once said, "It's hard to sing the blues in the back of a limousine." Guess the same goes for being broke and angry, can't keep that feeling when you're not broke anymore.
Great reaction! I was 12 when this song and video came out. My dad was similar to this dad, so this song and video hit the spot. I had Dee Sniders picture in my trapper keeper at school, which was my main folder that had a plastic zip lock pouch on the front where you could put a picture in. I was full on Twisted Sister that year. Great year to be 12, with Van Halen, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Iron Maiden.
Dee is the complete package, great writer, singer and an incredible performer and showman, one of the best. "Burn in hell" from the live at Wacken show would be a great one to react to, or bring in The Coop and react to "Be chrool to your scuel".
Wow, I found you guys via your "First time hearing Waiting for a girl like you - Foreigner" video, and this is something VERY different... lol. Good though. :)
A few years ago, a friend of mine found an original first pressing of "Stay Hungry", on the hot pink platter, AND with the bonus album cover poster still inside the cover. He paid $25 for it. He listened to it once, and sold it to me for $35. WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. SMF for life!!
I met Dee in 1994 at a friends print shop, UGP. He was in Central Florida to approve the graphics for his 24" BMX cruiser made by S & M called the Widowmaker, named after his band at the time. He was a cool cat.
While we're on "Twisted Sister" - how about reacting to Dee Snider (and Zappa, and Denver) testifying at the Senate committee hearing? That's a powerful rock-related material too.
Way back when I was in Jr High and early high school, there was a group of 4 of us that hung out and we took our nicknames from metal. I was Dio Don, there was Roberto RATT, the one that doesn't make much sense looking at it but sounded cool at the time was Twisted Randy's Sister, and the best one was Scotley Crue.
It's so funny, during the dad's speech I was watching her reaction all while spewing the speech at the same time and then my eyes flickered to the right, and I saw he was doing the same thing and now I can't stop laughing. My mother paid thousands of dollars of private school because she was scared of sending my brother and I to public school because they banged their heads on the lockers in I wanna rock,... Awwww , memories...
The movie Dee did (with Robert Englund) based off of the twin songs of Horrorteria off this album is pretty good and Dee puts in a pretty good acting performance. The movie is Strangeland.
What Dee Snider did to battle the PMRC is beautiful! Great guy. Met him at our job when he was endorsing our game. The entire thing with how they dressed was to make fun of the hair-metal trend at that time. They made themselves look absolutely horrible on purpose!
Dee Snider allowed Criss Angel to use a stripped down acoustical version of this song for his HELP(Heal Every Life Possible) Charity. It’s a pretty emotional music video and a complete 180 from this video.
Not 100% sure on the yr.. i wanna say 2012 or 2013, Twisted was at RockUSA.. the were head lining the last day. Normally, the bands went for just about an hour. Dee said they were NOT doing just an hour. Then went for almost 3 hours, till the Sheriff's Dept told them, they had to wrap it up... Noise issues...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The crowd loved Twisted.. and all of Twisted loved the crowd. I wanna rock, was changed a bit.. hehe.. to... i wanna f***. that was almost a 20 min song, by the time Dee finally wrapped that one up. God, the memories of that night. They also went around the entire camping area, visiting as many people as they could. EVERYONE said, how nice the entire band was when they went out to the public. Unfortunately, i didnt get the chance to meet them. Life is just funny that way sometimes... LOL
Remember when Dee Schnieder went to congress, to go up against the PMRC. AGAINST Censorship of music, headed by Tipper Gore, vice president AL Gore's wife. Others were there too, like John Denver, Frank Zappa, ectra. She realy went after WASP'S Blackie Lawless!!
Yall should check out Strangeland. It's a movie starring Dee Snider and I think he wrote it as well. It's worth checking out pretty awesome soundtrack as well.
When I wax a teen I worked as a dishwasher in a truckstop near the Ohio Pennsylvania State line. Twisted Sister came into the restaurant after a concert in Pittsburgh still made up for the stage. I heard one truck driver say to another. "What the he'll is that?" The other driver said, "That's some guys that made more money tonight than you and I will make in 10 years." Seemed like descent guys.
new viewer and subscriber here loved the reaction this has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I heard it may I suggest if you haven't already done so do a reaction to twisted sister's leader of the pack Alexis may not be scared of them since they did the video without their makeup and as far as when Dee Snider socked it to the congress that was priceless he said he still had some of his stage makeup on and he wasn't getting dressed up for nobody lol
You should show her Dee Snider when he addressed Congress and the PMRC back in the 80's, she would take a double take at the difference of his appearance from this music video to testifying to congress
I DID have a poster of Dee Snider and also of the whole band as a teenager !!! 😁 Dee's singing is inspired of the vocals of the English band Slade, wouldn't you say Burch ?
@@flickeringboxofficial Cool !! I also had a poster of Blackie Lawless and 1 of the whole band W.A.S.P. My mum did have her reservations regarding my choice of decoration in those years !! 😆
Interesting story. I went to a military school in North Carolina in the mid 80's. Rumor was that Dee went there and got expelled and this song was inspired by his time there. Not exactly sure if it was just a rumor or fact, but there is a reference at the very end of the song that makes it plausible. In any case, it was an anthem to a lot of people at the school and a lot of us teenagers at that time. Cool song, corny video..
To fully appreciate the inspiration for this parody music video. Alexis needs to watch, "National Lampoon's Animal House". Dee looks like a Muppet when he's dressed up.🤣✌️
You have to acknowledge that the actor playing "Dad" also played a similar character in Animal House and gave an almost identical speech to Wormer. It gains layers of comedy gold when you acknowledge that piece. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Dy2fo6E_pI.html
