I performed Hardware Store as spoken word poetry for my high school's yearly poetry night. This was the year after I did the same with Albuquerque. I still have both memorized and can recite them both (including Hardware Store at full speed) at any moment.
@@TheFhqwhgadsLimit I would like to see the lyrics typed out, no copy paste, right here. I’ll trust you on that if the time frame is reasonable. Just to impress you back really quickly, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is a word I learned in third grade, and I can spell it in under 6 seconds (not typing. That took much longer, lol).
The cliche that’s always repeated is that Weird Al parodying your song is a sign that you really made it as an artist, but the reality is, going back even to his earliest albums, he’s also parodied a lot of flavor of the month artists and one hit wonders who were just big at the time of that particular album. So yeah, sometimes he takes on an iconic, untouchable song and just has fun with it. Other times he takes something kind of disposable and produces something a lot more fun. This, in my opinion, is definitely one of the latter cases.
"Taco Grande" is a prime example -- a beast of a track, which is a parody of "Rico Suave," a song nobody remembers. If you like Mexican food, you've gotta check that one out.
I'm not gonna say the original is an all time classic song, or that Iggy is a talented artist. That being said, Fancy is a jam in my opinion. Its got a distinct beat that she flows well on. The lyrics arent of any real substance but that's not at all unusual for rap. I think this parody is proof enough that the song itself is fine, its the artist people don't like.
Well, to be honest, most of his songs were parodies of one hit wonders. Name another song from the Knacks besides 'My Sharona', or by the Greg Kihn band besides Jeopardy, It was just surprising when he picked Michael Jackson and Madonna. Even when he did 'Smells like Nirvana', nobody ever thought they would be anything more than a flash in the pan or at best a cult classic.
The cover that he did of Hamilton is bonkers!! No funny lyrics, just a polka rendition of the entire Hamilton soundtrack in like 5 mins. It’s so awesome
Every reaction has missed the fact that when he mows the lawn, he runs over the CAT. Also, for those of us old enough to remember, there is something very 'Schneider' (TV sitcom "One Day At A Time") about Al's get-up. Except for being blond (Schneider was brunette). The character was the apartment building handyman and considered himself a 'ladykiller', so it's in keeping with the double entendres and suggestive lyrics.
I really love being able to see the video clearly in the corner now. The microphone and pop filter never change and aren't that interesting to look at. But it's good to see them briefly at the beginning of the video. This is just right, now.
If I remember correctly, this was also part of a group of videos that was community project to put out one video a day for seven days, each from a different creative group. I think Tacky was another. It's been a few years though & my memory is bit fuzzy on the details. It was an impressive undertaking though & some works had surprisingly high production values.
Weird Al introduced me to so much good music out there. When I was younger, I heard "Smells like Nirvana" before "Smells like Teen Spirit". In my early thirties, I heard "Foil" before "Royals". His ear for hearing well made music is amazing. I think it would be worth your time some of the songs his parodies were based after.
I am so glad that you have become a weird Al fanboy. I’ve known about him since I was in high school in the late 80s so it’s really cool that someone with an awesome RU-vid channel like yourself has discovered him and enjoys his work. For all the tongue in cheek stuff that he does, I find that overall a lot of his humor is very sophisticated and a lot of people don’t understand it. His humor is definitely geared towards people with a large well developed vocabulary.
I started work for a local handyman company in 1984 and I'm still handy today.Grinning from ear to ear...I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of none.Certified pool operator too.I'm really enjoying your Weird Al stuff.🤘✌
Welp, I think it's time he stepped into some Weird Al originals with "Hardware Store" That's my favorite of his self composed tunes and it fits so well.
you gotta do "Weird Al Yankovic - Hardware store" after this if you haven't already, thats also about tools, obviously. since he had Mario in the background, the other guy should hqave been Luigi, that would be perfect.
I love it that Weirld Al didn't even bother with the fake mustache in the leaf blower scene. I had never noticed that before. Good reaction MrLBoyd. Keep 'em coming.
Sir, your videos have become a welcomed dose of serotonin. I was listening through earbuds and laughing. My husband thought I had gone 'round the bend! 🤣😂🤣
There are so many things about this song/video so here’s just two: Did you notice the 27 on the door? Al has hidden the number 27 in almost all of his albums. On the cover of the album Poodle Hat, for instance, there’s a boy scout with a 27 on the patch of his uniform. It’s not surprising he would do a song or two about home maintenance. He graduated high school at 16 as valedictorian then went to CalTech where he graduated with an architectural degree.
I don't think there's ever been an official video of his "hardware store" song but it's still one of my favorite's from him and definitely worth a listen, it's not technically a parody of any song but it is suppose to be done on the style of the band "presidents of the united states of america"
This is better than a New Year's Eve countdown. I feel like each 1 gets you closer to 1 I really want you to do, but each 1 is also a treat in and of itself. I'm still pushing for "You Don't Love Me Anymore" & after that everything will feel like a bonus.
gotta be honest, I was mainly looking through the comments for such a remark....>_>....and yes I'd be concerned if he decided to randomly show up and strip as such....but I also wouldn't disagree with your remark either as he's too awesome to not think him as such in a way x3
In concert, he changes outfits often, and for a cheesy love song, Weird Al comes out with a crushed velvet coat and a button up shirt with only the bottom button buttoned. My wife and I had front row seats, he walks out into the crowd, stood on the air rests, humps the air air in front of her face, and then started dragging his hand up his body, collecting sweat and slinging it on my wife's face. I thought it was hilarious until she grabbed my head and kissed me. My beard was soaked in Weird Al sweat. I've never felt so honored.
you gotta do first world problems. it is killer good. Also, your horoscope for today, Polka face, Hardware store, Jurassic Park, and couch Potato which is a parody of Eminem's Lose yourself
I loved the video and the reaction to it, even though I'm not familiar with the original song. I'm curious whether posting video suggestions in the comments has any merit. LBoyd tells us to at the end of each video, but the beginning of each vid seems to be either, "This is a suggestion from Patreon" or "... suggestion from a donation". It would seem likely that normal commentors will be drowned out. Not only that, but with all his subscribers, I don't see how he can read the comments to begin with.
If nothing else, Patreon subscribers read the comments. More than once, I've seen people that suggested things I'd forgotten. -edit: to be clear, I'm not a subscriber yet, but I'm confident they DO read comments like the rest of us.
Comedian Eddie Pepitone is the individual who has all the problems with his home. Weird Al know A LOT of comedians. Check out “Tacky” for more of his friends.
