Great reaction, Brandon. Nice to hear Yes will be a Friday staple on the channel. Don't forget to check out their first two albums Yes and Time and A Word. The first section is definitely my favorite. Ooking forwad o Siberian Khatru, a show opener of the irs innthe 70s. I hope you'll do more Pink Floyd there are some tracks that are from their early period you have to hear. Check out David Gilmour's "There's No Way Out of Here."
Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Quire, Rick Wakeman, and Bill Bruford. Every one of these group members has mastered their instruments in my opinion. I think one of the best line-up of musicians ever. Seriously.
Song #2 from the greatest album ever written or recorded by the greatest band there ever was or ever will be! You're going to love 'Siberian Khatru' when you get to it Brandon!🤩
❤❤❤❤ Your First time hearing this MASTERPIECE to the GOD OF LOVE SONGS of ALL TIME? WOW! This one grabs the love from under the gut and pull it up through the heart and straight out the top of your head!
I will have heard some Brandon but never was impressed enough to make even a mental note. Please suggest a couple, ideally without too much random keyboard stuff.@@retroreactions....
I don't know many yet. Of course I adore "Owner Of A Lonely Heart". May not be your thing. I reacted to and loved "Hearts". 2 others that I don't know that 2 dear subs have suggested are "Machine Messiah" and "Shoot High, Aim Low"...
I say "yes" to Yes! Though I was a huge fan of them back in college, I still forget how brilliant and amazing they are. I am so moved by their music every time I re-hear them
I find it amusing each time I read posts telling us that we shouldn't waste time in finding the meaning of Jon's lyrics and to just focus on the music. Surely those who write these kinds of posts have not read much poetry or can appreciate the ambiguity of poetry - depending of course on the poet and the period in which the poems were written. A lot of poetry is open to interpretation, with the poet attempting to reach a level of emotional expression, which is otherworldly and often an attempt to capture a meaning that is beyond the words and language used. Jon is a deeply talented poet. The lyrics of these Yes songs could just as easily have been published in a book of poems without any awareness or acknowledgement that they had been set to music. Anyway, nice reaction Brandon. This is a beautiful song. I have listened to this occasionally since it was first released in 1972, and it is tireless and timeless.
Very well said. And agree. However, Jon himself in a documentary about Yes, said that sometimes they went up their own arses with the lyrics and music . So….if he himself could say that, who are we to say that others cannot? Sometimes, it’s true.
Yes might be the best music group in the world at using pausing and anticipation in their compositions. The introduction of this song is a great example. They get 11/10 from me for their compositions alone across these amazing albums of the 70s. Legends.
This song must be one of their best, and it is hard to choose when it´s Yes we´re talking about. The first time listening to this one is truly special, indeed. Thank you for your great reaction, as always.
Ive seen YES three times in my lifetime.. Fantastic Band! They just dont make bands like this anymore.. top notch musicianship and epic 10 minute tunes!
This song is such a delight! Chris Squire used to play harmonica during the "Sad Preacher" verse. One of my fave versions was on Songs From Tsongas, on their glorious 35th anniversary tour. So glad you are doing YES weekly! Best to all!
Wow, would love harmonica on this one! Sorry if I wasn't clear. Yes will be on the channel once a month, so every 4th Friday. 3 other yet to be determined artists will cover the other 3 slots..thanks
"And You And I": perfect melody + perfect harmony + perfect rhythm ("Life tempo change out and inside me"), in four movements ("And you and I climb, clearer towards the MOVEMENT") perfectly arranged and supported by the magnificently and perfectly disjointed lyrics (“Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme”) signed and carried by (the stratospheric voice of) Jon Anderson. What a perfect start to the night* ("A clearer future, MORNING, EVENING, NIGHTS with you") conducive to daydreaming ("A man conceived a moment's answer to the dream"), which is also necessarily perfect! Another YESpiritual masterpiece!!! Thank you very much, Brandon. [*North America, Eastern Standard Time]
We meet again! Thanks for the superb analysis. You're welcome..always a great pleasure to react to Yes and I'm happy to have them on the channel once every 4 weeks now!
Hey Brandon! AYAI just might be the most beautiful piece of music that YES has ever done. Simply perfect in every way. YES❣️The greatest band on this or any other planet❣️🪐🪐🪐⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎
Oh, thank you for coming here. Truthfully best heard if "Siberian Khatru" follows it as it does on the album, to get your mellowed-out blood flowing again. Next time you play the song when you are alone try that out.
Ok. You convinced me. I have started to be very reluctant to subscribe to newer reactors. I am subscribed to too many already. I almost did when Ashes Are Burning came across my recommendations. I looked at your videos and was verrry tempted. But this, my favorite song by Yes, finally pushed me over the edge. I'll go back and start to to listen to some of your previous vids. I was a Free form and AOR radio DJ in the mid to late 70s. Back then I was almost all prog in my tastes. I still love good classic prog, but now my top preferences are good blues rock with the Allman Bros and my all time favorite, The Band. I'll be checking a lot of your stuff.
Oh wow, thank you so much for choosing to subscribe! I am also subbed to many reactors, so I know how hard it is to keep up, with life's busy demands as well. Even if someone can only watch me once a week, once a month, or even once a year I'm equally as grateful 🙂 Again thanks so much for your support! I hope you enjoy my past and future picks. I try to be diverse here..
You made a good decision. Brandon is a very dedicated and serious reactor. Just so’s you know……you will hear much more prog on here than blues or blues rock. It is his taste and the taste of the majority of his subs. Welcome to a great channel!
Musical Heaven. Wonderful Album. 1972, my 2nd year as a ‘YES’ fan. Looking forward to your new ‘YES’ slot. And that was as Magic as ever, from Rick Wakeman. And exactly one week from tonight, February 23rd, we’ll be seeing Rick Live, at The Birmingham Symphony Hall. ‘Return Of The Caped Crusader’. Featuring ‘Classic YES’ and ‘Journey To The Centre Of The Earth’. With ‘The English Rock Ensemble’. Can’t wait. And when I get home, I’ll listen to your ‘YES’ selection of that day, Brandon. Can’t wait to see what you make of ‘Tales From Topographic Oceans’, when you get to it. 🎶❤️🎶
Beautiful reaction to a perfectly orchestrated Yes masterpiece. Amazing that to me while Close to the Edge is my all time favorite musical composition, And You and I is "1b". Amazing because they are so stylistically different. Oh yes, the Amazing Yes! The very beginning of the tune Steve is actually tuning his acoustic guitar. It sounded so cool they kept in the track!
Thank you so much Jim! I can only imagine how many more songs they have at this level! Wow, that's pretty cool. Definitely a very unique way to start...
Wonderful reaction Brandon. Fabulous song. Advance apologies but believe it or not, I have the same track scheduled for release later today in the UK. Rare that we have clashed like this but my apologies for later. All the best. Dave✅✅
Thanks Dave. Oh wow, no I think it's super cool that we both chose the same song within 24 hours! What are the odds of that? Now that I've heard it I can watch your video when it comes out!
The great Bill Bruford was still with them on drums at this point. I could count it when they started phrasing things in multiples of 3 and Bill was accenting in weird places within that like a musician, not just a time keeper. He definitely has a jazz sensibility to his playing.
Unfortunately I can't pick up too much on drum theory and such, so I appreciate this info. He is certainly an amazing drummer, as shown here and in his brief work with Genesis. Thanks for watching!
...so glad to hear, Brandon, that you give Yes a regular place for a while, they so deserve that... I can only highly recommend their live triple-album Yessongs, maybe once give it a chance too between the studio ones... hard to pick one song out of that staggering excellence there, but it could be 'Perpetual Change' for me, one of their most progressive songs... 'And you and I' - nothing to add really to your spot-on reflections, just wanna say, I so love your choices of background images - they add so much to the atmosphere... I couldn't take my eyes off... such an amazing picture - magical, natural and mysterious at the same time...
🎼🎶🎤 A clearer future, mornings, evenings, nights with YOOOOUUUUU 🎵. OMG! Crank It Up!! This was the penultimate romantic song of my college years. You didn’t just listen to this song, you soared into its cosmos! 🎆🎇🌠🌅 Today’s 20 something girls (or boys) have no idea. Nothing they listen to compares to the passion and visionary plateaus of this glorious song. Taylor Swift? >sigh< A moment of silence 😒. I can you see you loved it, Brandon 😘. Looking forward to your finishing this album off with Siberian Khatru - equally glorious. After that, maybe Wondrous Stories.
Deep bliss,. concentrating on the wholeness of the sound. Jon's voice is beautiful, no matter what comes out. his voice is the music and is crystal clear. I shut my eyes and envision anime landscapes, rockets like fireworks bursting. Wonderful to meditate and flow. How these guys think. as one, and yet are so distinct in their art is amazing. The Masters would be pleased.
Táto majestátna skladba zneje v štúdiovom albume tak trocha akoby nedorobene... Ja som ju prvý krát počul v trojalbume Yessongs, čo bol záznam koncertu a to bol zážitok! Tu znela omnoho lepšie a prepracovanejšie! Je to dôkaz jedinečného tvorivého a virtuózneho potenciálu YES, keďže sa neuspokojili s tou štúdiovou verziou a doviedli ju k dokonalosti. Tie zimomriavky stoja za to!
I owe my very name, in large part, to Yes, and yesness...being the eternal optimist. And this is one of the most yes of Yes. I loved it and the album and the band from the very first moment their sound entered my ear. You live in a second golden age, where the work of wizards like Jon and Fripp and Zappa are actually appreciated, in widening number. If not hounded, these geniuses were, at most times, ignored, and certainly misunderstood, being basically beings from the future. The Todmobile/Icelandic Orchestra w/Jon Anderson concert bore much fruit, and "Awaken" is the sublime version of it. Looking forward to Yes Fridays was it?
Hello. Wow, interesting info that I don't think much about. I have heard that some legends were written off by critics or the public in their early days. Yes will be on the channel once a month, so on every 4th Friday basically.
Love your reactions. Just subscribed! Two songs you HAVE to react to at some point are The Revealing Science Of God, the first side of Tales From Topographic Oceans. And the underrated, but gorgeous Turn Of The Century from Going For The One. You'll love them both!
Wow, thank you so much for your subscription and for the compliment! Luckily, I have already reacted to Turn of the Century! Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XsioYeciJR0.html
I caught the 50th Anniversary concert for Close to the Edge in 2022. Steve does a fine job keeping the band alive. Jon Davison is not Jon Anderson but he gives it his all.
The steel guitar is heard in the 'whale calls' during the orchestral section. To hear his full potential listen to intro tl Going for the One. Of course, he also plays acoustic and elec gtrs and electric sitar. Check out Yessongs Movie to see how he did it live.
@@retroreactions.... My pleasure, I enjoy your style of reviews/reactions. 👍 I was just listening to Touching Once (Is So Hard to Keep) by Renaissance off of their Novella album and think you would really enjoy it! Actually the whole album is fantastic with almost every song a top favorite, so I hope you review some of it sometime, or just get the album and listen in private for your own enjoyment! 😏
@@retroreactions.... Awesome, I'll look forward to it. 😎 I've watched a couple of your other Renaissance reactions, Can You Understand and especially Ocean Gypsy which is one of my top favorites from their whole catalog. I'll have to catch up and watch the other two you have. And I noticed that you have Song Of Scheherazade on your list so add another vote from me for that one! 🥰
One of the few early Yes songs that I find just as good in the studio version as in the live "Yessongs" version (otherwise I prefer the live versions). But ok, that's just my opinion and my taste.
My only problem with this song is that I LOVE the opening so much…the melody and swing of it, that I’m disappointed when the song moves on and leaves that melodic statement behind.
I'd say anything that causes unwanted harm or negativity to one's self, either physically or emotionally. Basically I'm wishing good things for my viewers.. thanks
