Rick Wakeman wrote the piano part for him and Cat Steven’s never paid him for it, at least for many years. Wakeman told that story at several of his concerts later. The piano part makes the song for me

This is one of my favorite songs by Cat Stevens. He is a great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his "Tea For The Tillerman". The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Matthew & Son", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Father & Son", "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "Peace Train" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
Cat gets it done. Light yet Deep, makes you think but generally light and airy. Where Do the Children Play, Wild World, Peace Train, and many more. Harold and Maude was a cool movie with a Cat soundtrack. If you want to be free be free.
He will always be Cat to me.This is before he converted to Islam. He singing was anchored in a faith even before that though. He had such a calming,relaxing voice.He was a joy to listen to.
Such a beautiful hymn... it was part of one of the most magical momets I ever experienced. I dropped into the cathedral just before Easter and the choir was practicing and just wow. I'm pretty sure I did not move until the singing stopped. Acoustics are incredible in cathedrals and it was just stunning.

You have a resonant heart. When I hear this I remember my first days in Boston, after growing up in Carolina. It was all new to me, and an adventure, which I would accompany with this song playing in my head, nearly every morning. It is even better than "Here Comes the Sun" for starting the day. Wow! This one takes me way back to Catholic school in 70 or 71 I would have been around 13. A nun use to play the record for us, she was very young just out of the convent, she was cool. I had this Lp "Tea For The Tillerman" Really good Lp. Peace ❤

This music is a hymn in my Lutheran Church but the lyrics aren't the same. Praise and Thanksgiving is our hymn. I have loved this version from Cat from the beginning. And the piano is beyond beautiful.
In my youth I attended YWCA camp. Our sychronized swim routine was done to this song...in freezing cold upstate NY lake water...lololol Still love the song though

Yes, It's spiritual. This is a hymn from the 1930s. That line, "where his feet pass," was written "where His feet pass.". It's about God's recreation of each new day . . . a beautiful hymn of praise. Stevens has SO many great songs, and my recommendation would be " Two Fine People." for starters.
I'm curious, this is a nearly 100 year old Christian hymn, and I wonder how many other recordings you have heard to compare to Cat Stevens version. Not saying he doesn't do a wonderful job on the song, as it's one of my favorites also.
I grew up as a Christain but later i wondered what makes it such an absolute, that was when I discovered Bahai. It basically says we are all worshipping the same God and we are right. In the Christain era we have killed more people in the name of religion than any other reason with we Christians killing the most. One God, One people, One world.
Cat Stevens transitioned from a peaceful man to a radical Muslim supporting the fatwah calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie. Any support or promotion of this horrible man who supports the murder of another for words in a book should be condemned.
Peace train is actually better. This is a old Christian hymn which makes me sad he turned to the Muslim religion after making money off of Christian beliefs.
Anyone exploring the music of Cat Stevens should be aware of a very ugly scandal. Shortly after converting to Islam he called publicly and repeatedly for the assassination of Salman Rushdie, and has lied about the matter ever since, and he wishes people would just forget about it. Rushdie sees no reason to forgive him, so I don’t either. Question: is it possible to separate one’s opinion of an artist from his work? Sometimes, but in this case, I simply can’t do it.

That scandal happened in 1989. Thirty years is a very very long time to hold a grudge, especially against music recorded twenty years earlier. At this point the kerfuffle is little more than Daily Mail gossip.
I’m not the one holding the grudge. The Iranian government is. When Rushdie was stabbed, Stevens put out a tweet saying how sad he was, but there wasn’t a note of apology for his own attitudes. Sooner or later Muslims themselves will have to recognize that the abuse of women, the hatred of Jews, and the death penalty for apostasy were built into Islam by Mohammed and solve these problems for themselves.

There’s no statute of limitations on murder, especially since some Islamist fanatic idiot just recently tried to murder Rushdie, in case you haven’t been following the news. If you like the music, fine. That’s YOUR opinion. Personally, I refuse to buy Stevens’ constant self-promotion as an exemplar of world peace. He isn’t.
