Francesco Carlo Boffo was a Swiss-Italian-born Neoclassical architect who designed more than 30 buildings in Odessa between 1818 and 1861, including the famous Potemkin Stairs. If you walk the old towns of most European cities, Odessa's architecture would look very similar.

I had always thought that Odessa was a city in Russia until today. There once was a famous bar and club in Brooklyn called Odessa in an area known to be Russian, I just discovered that it had closed back in 2013. The diner and cafe next to it closed Summer of last year. Anyway, sorry for the sob story... I wondered where it was that Molly watched theater and finally got the answer. I never knew Odessa was in Ukraine, obviously, but incredibly impressed by its architecture.

Just found your video. Great stuff. I love Odesa. (One "S" is the Ukrainian transliteration.) Here's some stuff you guys mentioned that some might want some more details on. -José de Ribas is who Deribasivskya is named after. That's a good start to Ukrainian history. It's addictive. -Pre Russian full scale invasion (they actually invaded in 2014) soviet war memorials were preserved (Like you saw near Mozart). It is likely any references to Russia or the Soviet Union will be de-Russified in the coming years as Ukraine embraces a new European path. - Lanzeron beach is considered walking distance to many Odesians in the city center. I'm American... it certainly is NOT for me! 🤣 - Odesa is one of Europe's most walkable cities! - You nailed the architecture. It was purposefully designed to be French & Italian in style. - No one cares, but my apartment is on Primorsky there near the stairs! - Babushka's are Russian. Babusya's are Ukrainian. - Kumenets is touristy. BUT... it is VERY well respected food-wise. And the non-happy indifference is also traditional! 😜🤣 - The Ukrainian restaurant kitchen has traditionally been the domain of the babushya. That is changing. But not at Kumenets. In many countries if you look in the "back of the house"/kitchen it is staffed by immigrants. In Ukraine is is staffed by grandmothers. As the culinary arts become a legit career in Ukraine, that is starting to change. - Black Sea jelly fish are not poisonous (I think.). Great video guys.

There are the famous stars, the famous city gardens, one of the largest markets in east Europe, the famous courts, Passagen, central post office, the cathedral place, faltz fein house and so on… I suggest that you do some research before going to another town. There is a reason why Odessa has the nick name “Pearl of the South”. The architects of that city were Franz Frapolli, Alexander Bernardazzi, Franz Boffo. Who are Italian/ Swiss people. Furthermore, the beach isn’t separated from the town. It’s part of the town. You seem not to comprehend the size of the city. The city does not just consists of just this little quarter you have seen. But great that you made this video any way.

The Queen Ekaterin 2nd called Odessa to be a free town inviting European architechters to build without a duties. It was an "off-shore" town like Britisch Vergine Islands now...

Huhh?!?? The Romanian Lady??? Now why would they title anything of their own origin, in Romanian...? I'm very curious to know, so please respond if you don't mind..... alright?? Much appreciated!!!

@@vladimator1842 I don't know exactly, maybe is not Odessa maybe is Crimeea.. Sorry... I was searching on Google but didn't found for now..

Why? Please be more informed in anny case. Ukraine has a huge history with ROmania, 1st of all 1500 and before, they where all speaking romanian! Secondly, Odessa is a verry tied city with Romania, look the kindom of Moldova, and also look Romania in ww2, Odessa was conquered by romanian troops. But in any case, Odessa I think is one of the few big cities from Ukraine that respects the romanian origins and I heard about the boardwalk some tv shows etc, I am not sure it exist I didn t checked but probably it does, if not maybe in Crimeea.

I think Crimeea was the cream of Ukraine if we talk about seaside, amazing place, but Russians as they always do, they stolen it. (I know it was gifted after ww to Ukraine but Ukraine deserved it because they where a big part of soviet union, expecially because the first capital of Russia was Kiev! )
