One Ok Rock are underrated legends. Taka, the frontman, has insane vocals. Ridiculously good. He sings with such passion and emotion, he's at his best live. I suggest you check out the live performances of We are and of Take what you want. You will be blown away.
Just to give some context. We are is a song that motivates people in depression to know they aren’t alone. We all go through it. Take what you want is a song Taka wrote for the passing of Chester Bennington from linkin park. They were very close. It’s a very beloved song but I feel it requires context so the reactor knows what’s going on in the song. There is a long moment of silence and without context you’re just wondering what’s going on

@@ottaviagiano2823 that's sadly how the western world works. anything outside the anglosaxon world simply doesn not exist for most people. and sadly that is the case even in non-English speaking countries. my acquaintances are like "Japanese? i don't listen to japanese music" and that's about it. they don't even want to try. They just listen to American/British artists. I even heard people saying they don't listen to anything else because other nations just "copy" American music. This happens when most people are exposed only to one culture all the time. We only have American/British music on radio besides some Hungarian artists, and maybe the occassional one-hit wonder from latin America or elsewhere but even that never prompts people to check out other artists from those countries. (Like everyone was singing Despacito here but nobody cared where it came from). I don't think OOR (or any other rock band) will ever be able to break the ceiling. Rock music is anyways a niche genre compared to the popularity of pop music. I hardly ever hear contemporary rock songs on commercial radio here.

Unfortunately english-speaking country are so used to their "supremacy" in the music industry that they forget there is whole world out there able to make perfectly good music as well. I'm Italian so by default I am used to listening to music that is not in my native language because the majority is in english, so wether it's in english or spanish or korean or japanese it really doesn't make a difference for me. I only see music. But I can see how this will not be the case for people born in english speaking countries because they are used to setting the standard so anything else is perceived as below this standard and not worth their time. Makes me happy whenever I see those same people realizing there is more out there too and appreciating it.

Though they have yet to perform this new song live but this may be the only song that i may prefer mv version cos it carries such a powerful meaning. Having said that, cant wait to see a live performance of this new masterpiece. For all their other songs, live performances are strongly recommended. Taka has one of the best voices in the industry

In seriousness though, OOR has a mutltitude of genres from hard rock to pop punk and grunge. If you want bangers, you might need to check out Mighty Long Fall (Yokohama Arena live), Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer (yokohama arena), One by One (35xxxv tour), Cry Out (live), Make it out alive (live) or Renegades (Luxury Disease tour). But OOR has a lot of slower songs where Taka (the singer) really shines. He is a world class vocalist. Any of their acoustic or jam session sets are highly recommended. He legit makes people cry with his voice.
Welcome to the rabbit hole - you'll be happy to fall down it. For emotionally powerful, but not super hard metal, I recommend We Are (any live version, but I default to Ambitions), Take What You Want (Ambitions tour), or Renegades (Luxury Disease). For harder metal, I recommend Deeper Deeper or Make It Out Alive @ Yokohama (1CHANCE festival). Truly any live from these tours is going to be fire.
If you watch the ONE OK ROCK "We are" live at 18FES, you will cry. They invited highschoolers to perform with them, and it's an amazing performance. You can look at the documentary by NHK beforehand too, if you have time.

Do not listen to MV ever when a live version is available going forward … unless it’s for comparison of how mediocre it sounds compared to the lives … that’s just a testament to how good they really are as a band . Studio and MV are a gateway to the band , performing live is where the magic is and that’s from the guys themselves … the only exception would be when listening to stand out fit in … the orchestra version live is immense and magical , the MV sends a great moral message . Definitely check out their songs "The Beginning" and "Clock Strikes". Their last album Luxury Disease is PHENOMENAL. My favorite song by them is a rock ballad called "Wherever You Are."
