This is VERDY CHANNEL. Today I react to supertramp - breakfast in america - for the first time. If you want early access and to support me PATREON (link) : / verdy_channel Thanks for watching Like, comment and subscribe VERDY channel.
Verdy: "...and the 'armonica - I don't know what they call in English, probably... 'armonica" Adorable! Listening to the music of my youth through your fresh ears is inspiring! So much fun to see you falling in love with it all.
One of the best albums in contemporary music with one of the most recognized covers ever. Did you notice the buildings of Manhattan are condiment bottles, salt and pepper shakers and other items you'd find in a café or bistro? Including the plate and cutlery as piers.
Saw these guys live on their Breakfast in America tour. They were excellent! Love your reaction! It's so much fun to watch the younger generation enjoying the music of my youth. I would have been about 2 or 3 years older than you when this came out, Verdy. So cool to hear again and watch your appreciation.
Supertramp was an enlightenment in the mid 70s. Saw them in Gaston Hall on Georgetown's campus. I was into heavy rock and blues like Zeppelin, so this was 180 degrees different. What a concert! The band, combined with great acoustics you only find in a church; took me somewhere I hadn't been before. First time hearing this in 40 years. Merci Verdi!
The best play out on any album I have heard. It leaves the impression they play on long after we have left.... Please please react to all of Crime of the Century, it's as good as this album.
About a year ago....I started watching a documentary on RU-vid about Supertramp. A brief history but then about 20 minutes in....it turned into a full-blown concert. I think a lot of the stuff was from their 'Crime of the Century' tour. GREAT footage & it lasted about an hour.
"Take the long way home" est une très belle chanson, Supertramp font tellement de la bonne musique, à cause de toi, ça fait comme une couple de jours que j’écoute juste ça dans mon char! 😁
My favourite album as there is my favorite song on it: Child of vision, the archetype of Supertramp song where every musician is on FIRE! Never could hear a better live version than the studio one. Rick is absolutely extraordinary on this solo!!!
That solo was played in one piece. Try listening to The The's Uncertain Smile piano solo by Jools Holland for a similar vibe. Can be hard to find the original on YT, but worth it.
Sometimes you've just got to admit that your parents were right to each have a copy of this album. A true classic. And there's so much more Supertramp to explore, too! And yes - harmonica in English too (also sometimes called a "mouth harp") - and a tambour is called a tambourine in English, and you got the pronunciation of xylophone right for English too :)
Agree. Edit: Iwas thinking... If Supertramp is too often out of the "Hall of Fame" of the greatest bands ever, and Lord, is it mine? is almost always out of the Greatest Supertramp songs lists, then we can say it might be the most underrated song ever. ( : But I confess I'm a little glad it is. Kind of secret, you know what I mean.
Have loved your introduction to Supertramp, I hope that it will inspire you to check out ‘Crime of the Century’ Supertramp have two main writers Rodger Hodgson and Rick Davies and they sing their own songs and do harmonies and back up on each other’s songs. They both have slightly different styles which is what gives such depth to Supertramp albums.
CHILD OF VISION, WON'T YOU LISTEN? FIND YOURSELF A NEW AMBITION...🎶🎶🎶🎹 The Fabulous Rick Davies & Roger Hodgeson, MASTERPIECE. So glad you liked this album, it's a Gem & so was your reaction 🥰🎶🎵🎶
When ever I hear child of vision I never want it to end for me it's the ultimate track to listen to when driving so great to see your reaction to great music when I watched you listen to crime of the century it brought a tear to my eye because I do understood how you were feeling
What Chrisis? de 1975 et également "Even in the Quietest Moments" de 1977.
Just a Nervous Wreck is sung by Rick Davies. He sings all the songs with the deep tones and the very high falsetto (many mistake this for Roger Hodgson). He sings lead vocals on Gone Hollywood, Goodbye Stranger, Just Another Nervous Wreck, Casual Conversations
If you liked this one, I cannot imagine what will you feel after react to "Crime of the Century" , great band Supertramp, is in my top 5 of the terrestrials ones. From another galaxy there are only 3 Genesis, Yes and Led Zeppelin.
Tambourine is the instrument you described and the only instrument with a French name I know of is the cor anglais. The term cor anglais is French for English horn, but the instrument, according to Wikipedia, is neither from England nor related to the various conical-bore brass instruments called "horns", such as the French horn, the natural horn, the post horn, or the tenor horn.
Now you heard supertramp verdy when you get some time how about crime of the century dire straits bother in arms rush moving pictures led zeppelin four maybe some time verdy loving your reaction more singing please 🙏 and play that guitar 🎸 verdy .You are amazing and funny to watch verdy take care my dear friend look after yourself i be listening to more of your beautiful music 🎶 thank you verdy your the best bye 👋
Just an INCREDIBLE night ... one of my all-time Top 5 concerts. Hard to even pick a specific highlight ... it was all great. JUN 18 1979 Supertramp Setlist at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI, USA Tour: Breakfast In America Tour Setlist : School Ain't Nobody but Me The Logical Song Goodbye Stranger Breakfast in America Oh Darling Hide in Your Shell From Now On Child of Vision Even in the Quietest Moments A Soapbox Opera Asylum Downstream Give a Little Bit Bloody Well Right Dreamer Rudy Take the Long Way Home Another Man's Woman Fool's Overture Two of Us Crime of the Century
I love your reactions to see someone enjoy listening to supertramp as much as I do, the only thing that fascinates me is that sometimes you confuse the priest on the clarinet, otherwise exceptional...👍👏👏
Yeah, TTLWH is a Groove. I love Just Another Nervous Wreck. And Child of Vision. This album was a big one for me as a teen toting around my 8-track player. Rick Davies - vocals and keyboards including clavinet on track 2, harmonica on track 6. Roger Hodgson (higher voice)- vocals, keyboards and guitars, including acoustic 12-string guitar on track 2, vibes on track 9
I seem to remember one of Benny Hill’s episodes in the ‘80s that featured the instrumental part of the intro, featuring Benny and the little bald guy dancing. Hilarious.
Tu me ramène très loin, car ce fut mon premier album à 13 ans en 1980, oh lord is it mine reste ma préférée à ce jour..... Content d'avoir revisiter cela avec toi
The instrument you are talking about is called a tambourine in English. Mentioning it brings up the song "Mr. Tambourine Man," written by Bob Dylan and made a hit by The Byrds.
Dear Verdy, I'm Italian and I first heard Supertramp in 1980 and you, with your reactions, made me remember that time. Thank you for your spontaneity and, if I may ask, can you listen to two more Supertramp albums? "Even in the quietest moments" 1977 and "Crisis? What crisis?" 1975 Thank you from Italy.
When you need more, you have to listen to Supertramp - Crime of the Century and Yes- Close to the Edge. You will love the songs, music, sounds, instruments and musical journeys they take you on.
Supertramp sound, superficially, like a pop band. They were much more than that. Their arrangements and execution were phenomenal. Beyond their musicianship, they narrated stories about alienation and trying to understand oneself. Trying to find one's place in the world, and if the world even deserves you.
Supertramp Rick Davies - vocals and keyboards including clavinet on track 2,[29] harmonica on track 6 Roger Hodgson - vocals, keyboards and guitars, including acoustic 12-string guitar on track 2,[29] vibes on track 9 John Helliwell - saxophones, vocals, woodwinds Bob Siebenberg (credited as Bob C. Benberg) - drums Dougie Thomson - bass Additional personnel Slyde Hyde - tuba and trombone Gary Mielke - Oberheim programming
Your reactions are rapidly becoming must-watch viewing on RU-vid for me! I have never been disappointed with any of your reactions, come on!!! And since you obviously enjoyed this LP I have three more Supertramp albums that are actually a little bit better, imo, as well as three others to recommend. First, from Supertramp please add "Crime of the Century", "Crisis? What Crisis?" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" albums. And from the great rock band Queen please consider reacting to "Queen I", "Queen II" and "Sheer Heart Attack"! But whether you do or not I will still be your fan, along for the ride whatever you choose to react to!
As of 2007, Supertramp album sales exceeded 60 million.[7] They attained significant popularity in North America, Europe, South Africa, and Australia. Their highest sales levels were in Canada, where they had two diamond-certified (ten-times platinum) albums (Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America), and their only number 1 singles anywhere ("The Logical Song" and "Dreamer").
Hi Verdy!! I love your reactions of all this greatest albums of groups of rock. I wish you ear to Uriah Heep's "Demons and wizard" please!! Saludos desde España!!!
First time ever hearing the group Supertramp, I was in the theatre watching Superman, the first movie in 1978. While Lois Lane is driving in a car, she has the radio playing, and I heard this music, with the high pitched singer singing. It was "Give A Little Bit" on the movie. That sound stuck with me, and soon I discovered Supertrump again when the Logical Song became famous on the radio in '79. I loved their music video It's Raining Again. Was sad when the lead singer left the group. End of an era. But, Verdy Channel has brought Supertramp back!
Supertramp had two brilliant vocalists Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies. Hodgson lead guitar and some keyboards. Davies main keyboards. Of course they were British.
Really enjoyed this reaction. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Aside from loving Child Of Vision very much (my favourite Supertramp song), I find myself wondering what yer man on sax did on this song in concert before it was time for his solo - did he lend a hand with the keyboards?
Hi Verdy (or is it Rachel? 🙂) took me a few days to get to this reaction, glad I finally did. Love that you do full album reactions. As usual you brighten my day
Hello again Verdy!! Enjoying Part 2 so much. Long way home was the Clarinet used not the sax dear. Oh, you must be very well educated and you speak almost perfect English. I will guess you are French? Thanks for sharing. Love light and blessings to you from Michigan usa.
I just realized that i need to put this on my best album ever list. Not really a weak song for me on this thing. Constant joy from incredible musicians. If you want more fun with these guys i would highly suggest "Crime Of The Century".
Your 🎵oooo🎵while getting into the music is so cool! Love your reactions and you genuine love of music. May I suggest something I believe you just might groove to? Old School..."Fred Wesley: House Party live studio. Keep rockin Verdy!!
Sorry but you're wrong: He is John HElliwell and the Spice Girl is Geri HAlliwell. Wikipedia says her father was Lawrence Halliwell. BTW: When the Spice Girls came out I also thought she was John Helliwell's daughter ... 😉
Hi Verdy, this is a relatively new album from 2013 that I can recommend: "The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)" by Steven Wilson. It is influenced by classic progressive rock.
I love the concept of this album, dreams, aspirations, love, risks, failure, broken dreams, heartbreak, and finding a new ambition with no time left. Sigh! The gems on this side are Take the long way home and Casual conversations. I love Casual Conversations despite its simplicity. It's so lush and sad. I see it as the breakup song of the Breakfast in America honeymoon. Now that I think of it, side 1 is slightly better than 2. Imho.
Glad to hear yer reaction to Breakfast In America. Iffin' ya wanna hear Supertramp's masterpiece may I recommend Crime O' The Century...an extraordinary aural experience first note to last! Unlike anythin' else...
Miss you , Ms Verdy..hope all is well. Haven't seen a reaction lately, maybe my algorithm, or in your case just life. Again hope all is well. A friend.
