So the cry in the song, it's called keening and wailing, or a death wail and the sound happens when someone loses another. (It's just an imitation and done to beat, cause you can't replicate it properly) Which is the reason for some people find it hard to listen too. You don't forget that sound once you've heard it even from yourself. But its also used in rituals practice in other cultures and was a forgotten art of the Celts to help deal with the loss of loved ones usually practiced by women on the outer fringes of society.
This song will forever make me feel emotional. Something about her voice just floods my mind with nostalgia, i didn’t know she had passed away in 2018, what a tragedy may she rest in peace. This song will cut a bit deeper from now on… 🖤
On a day another band was going to do a cover of this song. She was supposed to meet with them that day she died. The band did the cover and paid tribute to her in the song with a twist. You should check it out. Bad wolves - zombie.
U don't get it at all zombie's are usa and uk trying to kill russians. Goggle and educate yourself please spend 1 hour at least goggling othetside before u comment
TG Lurgan is an Irish-immersive summer program for teenagers in Ireland in order to help "reclaim" their native language from near-extinction. As part of the offerings, they make music videos of popular songs translated into Irish, which they sing and record. Last summer they did Zombies in Irish and superimposed it with footage from Ukraine. It was SO moving! I highly recommend looking it up on RU-vid!
I grew up with that stuff. 😂 Nice to see someone else get into it. Funny that from different parts of the world we get exposed to different music. Thank you!
This is one of my ultimate fav songs. I learnt it in Catholic primary school and we used to love singing this. Looking back we must have had some rebellious teachers.
It’s even more moving if you know what it’s about - a bombing in Warrington UK where a 3 year old and a 12 year old were killed. I’d recommend listening to Closer by NIN next. Might set off a few content filters on TikTok though
My maternal grandparents' families left Northern Ireland around 1929 because of violence all around them. They never returned. My grandmother said everything and everybody they had in NI was dead and nothing for her there except painful memories. Must've been rough because she was the happiest person ever.
@@Vikkigamesbadly my grandparents, both, would never talk about it, however, my grandmother's sister, Aunt Marie who was 10 years older than grandmother, talked about how frightened she was too go to school after the 1921 civil war there. They lived near Londonberty. I'm guessing they were glad they left before the 'troubles'.
The Easter Rising (Irish: Éirí Amach na Cásca),[1] also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week in April 1916. The Rising was launched by Irish republicans against British rule in Ireland with the aim of establishing an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was fighting the First World War. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798 and the first armed conflict of the Irish revolutionary period. Sixteen of the Rising's leaders were executed from May 1916. The nature of the executions, and subsequent political developments, ultimately contributed to an increase in popular support for Irish independence.
Gotta listen to the bad wolves cover of this..they had plans to have the lead singer be on the vocals for it and she sadly passed away the day before recording..the poured the soul into it 🤘🏻
This song is nostalgia for me, the entire world was an 800w JVC stereo, a single-wide trailer, early 2000s FM radio, a CD-Tower. This song is one of the clearest, earliest memories I have.
Bro, listen to some Skunk Anansee, fkin awesome 90s band songs to check out: Hedonism, Selling Jesus, Weak....to name but a few!! Lead singer is a black lady who goes by the name of Skin...and she is a fkin bad ass rock chick 🤘🤘
There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin - that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken'. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' - that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension. - Dolores O'Riordan in 2017, on writing "Zombie".[15]
It's crazy that that specifically was the one you remember because that's why she wrote this song. It was 2 boys killed, it was the Warrington bombing. I'm from Northern Ireland, I remember that happening, we lived it here daily. ❤
@@veronicamarinelgueta8302 Oh, that's even better. But yes, it was the Warrington bombing and it was 2 boys. Coming from Belfast which was the heart of The Troubles, growing up in it, The Warrington bombing even felt different to me, even though it was England. Which you would think it wouldn't with seeing bomb sites, army everywhere, always. But yeah, Warrington stayed with me too. RIP Delores 🙏🌹
All these remind me of growing up in the 90s.thanks for the memories. This lady went to record this song with bad wold and she died in bath tub the night before the recording. They donated the new song to her fam.i think..try and give it a read. And do badwolf zombie...
For some time I had this as my alarm in the morning. On the one hand it has a fairly progressively calm to loud start and on the other I knew I'd want to shut it off as quickly as possible, because of how 'bad' it'd make me feel once it got going.
This is what it sounds like when a song cries out loud. In the 90's we Gen Xers fought the system through our music, and the classic lyrics such as this. It was a very personal, and powerful way to have our voices heard. I wish today's youth and music industry understood this.
@@flaviojosefo7130 Radiohead has good music, just people affiliate it with Creep only like people affiliate Nirvana only with Smells like teen spirit, you gotta dig down deep into the band to find the good hits
In my opinion " Zombie " means the politicians the leaders who hold the power, start a war, in their mind , they're reckless, heartless as zombie even after100 years , the theme(war) is still going on, it's an anti-war song with the great voice and powerful lyrics
It was her protest song, the IRA planted a bomb and and as a result two young boys in Warrington, Cheshire died. She was protesting against the endless cycle of violence caused by the N.Ireland troubles. A three year old (Jonathan Ball) and a 12 year old were killed (Tim Parry). Tim died 5 days after the bombing. Dolores said in a 1994 interview "I remember seeing the mothers on television, just devistated.... [..] some prick, some airhead who thought he was making a point, did that".
Today there was violence, please, break the silence. Even only in Jenin, Palestine, six lifes were taken away because of Israeli occupation today. Thank God, Ireland has understanding of this injustice. #BDS 🇵🇸 #FreePalestine
I'm Canadian, but I grew up listening every type of music that had a message. I certainly noticed that all the best artists in the 90s with a message ended dead... even 2pac or BIG , nirvana ( many more ) as soon they tried to say something they end up 6 under... Those CEOs music or producers will take the G5 jet ( tropic thunder) true!
Sorry for the late comment, but just to say its about peace and war at the same time. Dolores wanted world peace because at the time of when the song was being made northern ireland was the most violent place in the UK.
They speak about the war between the protestant people (Northern Ireland [English]) and the christians people of rest of Ireland [Irish] When she say "the violence cause the Silence" it's because lot of kids and civils people was killed during this episode it's the same war in "Bloody Sunday"(U2). They are a lot of difficulty to have a real Irish identity. Now Ireland is 2 country. The union is juste in rugby team with a beautiful song "Ireland call" (sorry for my English I'm french 😅)
Nathan, you must know by now the song is about the Troubles in Ireland. Many sons and daughters and mothers and fathers were murdered. Dolores O'Riordan, R.I.P., lead singer, lived through it.
Zombies, she talking about soldiers on the streets of Northern Ireland, implying they just follow orders without any thought, a great song, I was one of those zombies
Absolutely love the cranberries lol. SHE has an amazing voice RIP 🙏 🪦 😌 id listen to them for hrs & my mom would come in and start pretend whining and then say " ok thats enough with this , find another band to listen to for a while uz i cant take it anymore" bahahha i loved her voice tho haha very unique and no one like her. The reason behind this sing is sad & brings a lot more meaning but all her songs are amazing.
red fell in love with this song from the first I heard it growing up and you should take a chance to listen to other music from them it's not the same Vibe though but it is but it's not and with words like violence causes silence it is about war and it'll always be relevant as long as greed and indifference control people in power but music has always been there to brighten up our darkest days it is the exact medicine that brought us out of the Dark Ages didn't know that artist bought the church and their rules against music that was anything but Gregorian to be foul even music like Beethoven and Sebastian Bach they were ridiculed and snubbed but it's composers an artist Like These and others of their time that fought hard for music and other art forms in the world and for the first time in recorded history charity popped up worldwide to help with the needy I'm studying music as a medicine and have been for the past few years and I'm completely blown away and I've gotten to love my playlist of everything from brain wave music megahertz to loom sounds with the mother's heartbeat the baby's heartbeat and even Egyptian music it is something that can be studied without an end to it and as someone who loves to learn it's now my passion to completely dive into music and what is capable of remember when listening to megahertz music to have it turned very low to where you almost can't hear it because it's not something you hear it's the vibration that your body and cells are reacting to and may cause people headaches if they try to listen to it as they would other music so I have written you a chapter of your own take care brother and family and remember peace out Girl Scouts LOL🤗❤❤❤❤
