This beautiful track's lyrics, and especially the hook, is based on the book "The Bluest Eyes" - by Toni Morrison. This track inspired me to read it and I highly recommend reading it to anyone moved by this track.

Def's verse is so fucking deep, its maybe the Best ever, no cap. The rhyme scheme and lyricism is insane, but the depth is unmatched

in boxing your "reach" is how long your arms are. So when someone says your arms are too short to box with god, normally they are saying that its an unfair fight cause god can reach you but you cant reach god. like when you hold a kids head and they try and swing at you but they cant reach. basically saying someone is superior.

It was before my time and I didn’t grow up in a house with Hip Hop heads. So all the Hip Hop I was listening to was my era which was late 2000s from what I heard on the radio (Eminem, Lil Wayne, TI, some 50 Cent and Jeezy, Kanye, Three Six Mafia, etc.) And streaming services didn’t exist back then and RU-vid didn’t have the playlists feature, they only had lyric videos or music videos so I had to know the song names to find it on RU-vid. Hope that explains it fam! 💯

@ PRSPR -Arms is the term that describes all forms of weaponry from knives, poison and guns to vehicles to nuclear weapons. Just to put you on to the terminology fam.The formerly know as Mos Def now Yesin Bey always had STRONG word play and thas why his trueist fans still keep him in they top five plays to this day.

14:02. It's more about moral philosophy & how people think they've invented a new argument. When in reality these things aren't anything new. They've been discussed in the past. It's just a new version of an old argument. Rehashing the same old issues. Man is very stubborn & simply doesn't want to just do what's right from the heart. People would rather worship the creation rather than the creator, when God himself is love.
