My biggest fear as a future father is not being able to get my babies what they want and need because I was raised to be a provider and if I had to I would go back to trapping for my kids I do wrong for all the right reasons like he said “ I remember back one Christmas when daddy had no money mommy wrapped the presents up and stuck under the tree and some of em was from me because daddy couldn’t buy em and I remember that night I sat up the whole night crying because daddy felt like a bum and daddy had a job but his job was to keep food on the table for you and mom” my biggest fear is not having money and having to swallow my pride and ask my dad for money for Christmas for my kids but on the same hand i would be looking at what money I got sayin can I flip it and get the pack and hit the streets and make 2 grand for Christmas that’s why I’m going to college rn I’m a child of divorce I saw my single mother hide her emotions for 2 years before my step dad was around and he showed me how to be a man how to dress myself how to work bust my ass if I have to

I'm at the early stages of this man, but my only goal is to be the Dad that you have been. That's it, the only reason I'm here or want to better myself is for her, I don't even want to date again (separated from her mother). We share 50/50 custody and live closeby, mother wanted to split because I became distant and absent so it's my fault (true, I had a HEAVY codeine habit, I'm sober from it now for a month and going strong with no going back) so I also carry that guilt. Working 12 hour shifts in a row, then having her on my days off (and she's only coming up to 3 so is a handful and doesn't give me 2 minutes to breathe) while I try time manage bettering myself -- finding a distance college, music production, lifting/gym and cardio on my road bicycle, then working again multiple 12 hours and repeat is exhausting....but that's just how it is. My other hobbies like reading don't exist, I get like 2 'free' days a month. It's weird because our circumstances are different, in that we were actually pretty comfortable before the split, she earns well, but this song hits harder too because I didn't have the upbringing she did. So it's almost a double whammy for me; the stress of the poverty and BEING that kid in the song experiencing all of that from a broken home, and also being a father who is run into the ground literally trying to balance being a dad, working long days, AND bettering myself. Same reason 'Rock Bottom' by Em has to be up there as a Top 10 song IMO. It's hard as fuck man. It's now 10pm, I finished my 12 hour day at 8pm, I have been watching a lecture on Pharmacy (work in a Hospital & that's my aim but waiting on a job to come up with training/distance learning), thinking of doing a home workout but...I'm just done. I'm too tired to focus on anything but just chilling for a bit on RU-vid. And I get my daughter tomorrow at 7am, and I have her till Wednesday at 7am, when I leave for another 2 days of work. We can only do what we can, I suppose.

@@decomposedcorpse5186 that one also gets me every time, i can kinda put it like this, "cleaning out my closet" reminds me of how i felt shortly after what we went through, went down, and "headlights" is the lingering regret, that we never managed to forgive each other before she passed
