Eric Clapton is one of the most legendary guitarists in Music! He was extremely influential in the 1960s with bands like The Yardbirds, Cream, Derek & The Dominoes, and his own solo career. During the 1980s, however, he had gone through such a deep alcohol-fueled depression in which he claims the only reason he didn't commit suicide was because he couldn't drink when he was dead. That was his lowest point in himself, but things got worse in the 1990s. His manager, along with legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, died in a helicopter crash in 1990. But that wasn't the worst of it. In 1991, he was getting ready to pick up his son, Conor Clapton, from his mother's 53rd floor apartment to take him to the Zoo and then lunch. His son would often run up to the window and press his face against the glass to look out across New York City. This time however, the janitors had been working on the windows and had left it open when cleaning. Conor ran to the window once more to look over the city, but did not notice the window was opened. He fell from the window 53 stories to his death. He was only 4 years old. That was the hardest point in Clapton's life. He isolated himself for months until he was hired to record a soundtrack for the movie Rush later that year. Having worked out a song in his head, he used this opportunity to return with a song dedicated to the death of his son. Tears In Heaven was released the next year and, along with becoming one of his biggest hits, it has been solidified as one of the saddest songs in history and a common funeral song.

The good thing about the 90's is that Eric had gotten sober in 1987. The death of Conor was a real test but he managed to not go back to alcohol.

Jojo, The reason everyone listens to your channel is that you have a heart and are sincere. Please don't change that and you will go far whatever you do. I am sure that someone has already said this, but Eric wrote this song for his young son who fell from a high rise apartment to his death and probably thought he would not see him again because of the life he had lived. Let me just say, that for both Eric and everyone else, There is hope in Jesus Christ. Stay strong brother.

It's a sin Eric Clapton has some fantastic upbeat songs like "Lay Down Sally" "Cocaine" "Layla" & some really bluesy songs too. "When My Guitar Gently Weeps" is why this man is a guitar genius, seriously listen to it. Anyway, Eric Clapton has an AMAZING recording career yet the two songs people know him best for is "Tears In Heaven" about his son Conor and "My Father's Eyes" which was written about the father he never met & even talks about him looking into Conor's eyes. Most people know him for 2 of the saddest songs.

Good luck in college. Thank you for looking back at the songs that my generation had. What we listened to everyday and then new songs the next year! Some of what made the music great tho was the use of drugs and the music facilitates the moods therein. Eric Clapton's Cocaine is a mainstay in the counterculture back in the day. Rock was antiestablishment. Antiwar. And racism. We had Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Carlos Santana. The Lizard King. Black Sabbath. All singing and making music at the same time! And then my fav of all bands, the Rolling Stones were legends. Check out Sympathy for the Devil or Paint it Black. The Black Crowes and their song She talks to Angels. Oh so very much to hear. Such diversity and so different in every way but singing our lives. Singing or story. Good luck. I love you Reaction vids bruh. Much love.

I dedicate this song to my dog, he died 2 weeks ago, I feel so bad without it, Rocky, wherever you are, I'll find you in Heaven 😞

I totally feel this video. We lost a baby half way through the pregnancy and the distraught my husband and I both went through was awful. We had to pick each other up at times, convince each other just to get through the day, stop each other from becoming self destructive. It hurt. 9 years later and it still hurts. But I want to be a good person and I feel like I have to believe in the idea of heaven because that’s the only time I’ll ever get to see my son that I lost.

Don't feel bad if you cry to this song. You're not alone. I'm 46 years old I have three sons, and I cry every time I hear this song! 💔😞💯

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever written. 2 songs that would be in the same category are “Keep me In Your Heart” by Warren Zevon and “If I Should Fall Behind” by Bruce Springsteen.

Eric Clapton is considered one of the ultimate guitar players. But what really makes me a fan is how he uses his gift to communicate emotions. This particular song is extremely emotional, as you have found. But so are most of his other songs. Especially the ones that are the most popular. And there's plenty of those. My personal favorites are Layla and Wonderful Tonight. Give them a try. (If you do Wonderful Tonight, see if you can get the 24 nights live performance. It's sooooooo good.)

This song is in my opinion maybe the saddest song ever written. 😢 Eric Clapton is a guitar legend. 🎸

You're absolutely worth it. You're sweet, intelligent and willing to listen to things that are no your norm. I love your reactions. I'd be disappointed if you stopped.
