My reaction to Led Zeppelin's obscene, brutish and utterly awesome "Whole Lotta Love" performed live at Madison Square Garden in 1973. Let me know what other Zeppelin related tracks I should react to! #ledzeppelin #wholelottalove
They did improvise a lot, but they do have obvious musical cues if you listen to multiple live shows that tells them to move to the next part of songs.
@@jackfiamingo9180 It's because they could do it, and they enjoyed doing it. It displayed their inventiveness and mutual chemistry, and gave the audiences a unique experience. It probably also stopped the band being bored with always playing songs the same way.
I am very happy to see a young person getting into a group that had already broken up before you were born. No one and I mean nobody has created what Zeppelin has. I like your intelligent and at times emotional reactions to the group of the century Led Zeppelin. Also Robert Plant put out 7 platinum Albums as a Solo artists. They don't make singers like Plant anymore. Keep up the videos I enjoy them and today I am turning a few of my friends on to you
The conversation you were talking about between Robert's voice and Jimmy's guitar is known in the blues world as 'call and response.' Zeppelin were masters of it.
Jimmy Page's best performance in this concert is during the 28 minute version of Dazed and Confused, which is about 24 minutes of the greatest guitar solo ever!
@@emmanuelflores9983 here is the link to dazed and confused live from same show ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZQgYn23Xvck.html Enjoy my friend
I really enjoy you reactions, I’m a zeppelin reaction junkie, and I love watching smart, articulate people like yourself start to grasp the mind blowing talent this group possessed. I’ve already subbed and I’m excited to see more Zeppelin reactions :)
Julie Manarin I’ve noticed that you, just like myself, keep watching these Led Zeppelin reaction videos. I can tell you’re loving them as much as I am!
Actually Led Zeppelin concerts were averaging 3 hours of greatness. To understand how most of this was improved listen to the studio version. Another great Led Zeppelin show was 1970 Albert Hall, 1979 Knebworth, and even earlier very young Led Zeppelin 1968 Denmark radio video. Loving the Led Zeppelin reaction.
Saw Zeppelin twice in concert in the 70;s - amazing! Also met Robert and Jimmy at the Rainbow Bar and Grill back in 74 or 75. Robert Plant was the most gorgeous human I have ever seen. He glowed.
Over 20 million people requested tickets to see led zeppelin in 2007 with Jason Bonham on drums in place of his late grate father John Bonham That set a Guinness book of world records for most requested tickets by any band in history Let that sink in
Tons of freestyle... they all do. They are the consummate jam band. When you have heard these songs a few times you begin to realize just how insane JPJ and Bonham are...
Please please please react to How Many More Times. It’s easily one of their greatest songs and it set apart the fans who only hear the mainstream songs to the ones that actually know what Zeppelin is all about.
The live version of this from the Dansk Radio sessions in '69 (it's a Video) is pretty outstanding. Young Robert hadn't blew his voice out yet and Jimmy's guitar is just brilliant. Bonham is Bonham. (posted on youtube title: Led Zeppelin - How Many More Times (Danmarks Radio 1969))
I haven't watched this in so long, I just realized once again (in my 49 years of age) of how Bonham and JPJ are just fucking destroying in the background while Jimmy is playing the theramin.....I mean, Bonham's gallops are insane!!!!
Awesome :) Yes Jimmy is playing with a Theramin. From the same concert you can check "The song remain the same/The Rain song" they should be played together. To be fair the whole concert is just amazing. Dazed and Confused is 28min long if I'm not mistaken, but it's the greatest performance you'll ever see. It's kinda like Whole lotta love, a lot of improviation, but it's 10x better ! The video will be blocked en RU-vid, but you can upload it on Google Drive or somewhere else for example. Improvisation is the best word to describe Led Zeppelin. My guess is that during each concert/warm-up/.. , they might add something else to each songs and they keep it in. For example the longest version of Dazed and confused is 45min long !
The movie The Song Remains The Same was actually released into theaters in 1976 . Then it was shown as a late night movie for years after in theaters . If you couldnt get tickets when they came to town , it was the only way to see them in a live setting. On the big screen it was as if you were in the front row!! Of course now with dvd and home theater systems we take it all for granted now with all the different media formats!!!
In My Time Of Dyin’ from Earls Court 1975. AMAZING performance. Gritty and real. This is towards the end of over three hour concert after a long tour. You can see the exhaustion, but that just adds to the song.
I've been watching this my entire life and this never gets old..Led Zeppelin were at the height of their career, this is one of the greatest live performances of all time!!!
I was at that show 9 row center orchestra . It was the last show of there tour . I was 16 now 64 . LED ZEPPLIN change my forever . They played more than 2 hr. The Greatest Rock -N-Roll Band Ever
Jimmy was always into mysticism and seriously that was not unusual in the early 70’s. His pants have the planets and stars on them. I remember myself embroidering Saturn on my boyfriend’s jeans.
They all jam in concert. He played the solo from the recording toward the end, and that’s when Robert came back in. If you like the call response that they do, you should listen to “You Shook Me”. They do it through the whole song. I’ve heard them talking about the first time they played together. They decided on a Yardbirds song they all knew. When they finished, they were like “Wow”. They just gelled immediately.
It was because of all of the improvisation they had done over more than a decade, and the fact that Bonham could follow Page anywhere, that they felt they could not, and didn’t want, to continue after his death. Add to that that he was a friend.....,and Roberts closest friend. They were crushed by the loss. Jimmy has said he couldn’t touch a guitar for two years. Robert has said that Zeppelin was “No longer an affair of the heart” and he couldn’t go on. Such a tragedy all around....
Helene Spaulding What a tragic end to the band, but completely understandable. When you see the chemistry they have on stage it’s obvious one can’t work without the other. With John being the heartbeat of the band, it’s easy to see why they couldn’t continue after he passed.
And that is what makes the 2007 reunion Celebration Day so poignant, in addition to being so great: seeing Bonzos son up there and the way they interact with Jason...the smiles, the gestures. Robert is kind of a second dad to Jason, since Bonzo was his closest friend. Jason has spoken of his strong emotions about playing that night with his “dad’s mates”....almost an out of body experience. He definitely channeled his dad’s spirit that night.
Loved your reaction and comments during the performance, your observations were spot on ! Excellent, excellent reaction one if the best reaction videos I've watched, Good Job Kid 👍🏽✌🏽🎤🎸🎶 !
Daze and confused live is the best 27 minutes improvised jam ever done live.... simply amazing. Everyone in that group was and are the best at what they do.
They never do a tune the same when playing live! Little side note, that shirt Plant is wearing is the shirt of the young Lady he got to know in a special way! If you get my drift.
Ramble On, Going to California, Black Dog . Every song they made was great I had tickets to see them in 80 in Los Angels. Within days of the tickets selling John Bonham died. One of the greatest band I ever missed seeing live. They ruled the 70s
All of the live shows differ slightly. That is what makes them special--and the Madison Square concert was the Best The best the best the best--OOOOOOOH YEAHHHHHH!!!!!
Love you comments on John Paul Jones. You are absolutely right. Jones is a master, on bass guitar and piano who doesn't get enough mentions and credit. Cheers mate! 🎸🍷🍷🇳🇱🕊️
Master's instrumentalist led zeppelin know one can match led zeppelin they are truly untouchable master's of their instruments led zeppelin was it and still is
This song charted number one on the AM top 30 songs. It was their breakout single. Heartbreaker was the B side on the 45 rpm records. They never looked back! Primarily, they were FM after that!
You MUST do “Achilles Last Stand” & “Kashmir” from Knebworth 1979. Achilles is a MONSTER track. It’s epic. This band is awesome live. For Achilles Jimmy was told it would be impossible to do all the guitar parts himself live. Ronnie Wood asked him “who are you gonna take with you on tour with the other guitar?” Jimmy said “No one. I’ll do it myself”. and damned if he didn’t pull it off. The guy is a genius talent.
Oh, this version is a lot different after the guitar solo from the studio version. From the point where he say "One night, I believe I told you this before." Until they go back into the song is all extra stuff. They have other versions of this song that are over 20-25 minutes long. Yes Robert does improvise a lot too. I was told one reason they did it is so it wasn't boring to them playing the exact same thing every night. Actually the real duo is the drummer and the bassist grooving together. Page said that Bonham was the one who laid down the beat everyone else fed off of. Thats why when he died they could no longer continue. Oh do their song "Stairway to Heaven" first but the group Heart does an excellent cover of them when they were inducted into something at the Lincoln Center in Washington about 15 years ago. Stairway is Zepps most famous/popular song and still is often voted the greatest rock song ever even though I personally like at least 15 songs by Zeppelin better than Stairway but thats just me.
I saw them in "75" I was front row and center. I saw them again in "77" I was center stage again, only in the upper deck, last row. Literally, the only thing behind me was a wall. Great experience.
@@emmanuelflores9983 looking forward to watching you discover more of this music. Please listen to Achilles Last Stand" in my opinion the studio version, I think the track has 6 guitar overdubs. Some Zeppelin tracks I like better live, this one is think the studio is better.
He's using something called a theremin. It's an oscillator that you can control with your hand movement. They've been around since the 50's. You've probably heard them in old syfy movies.
Manny this song was filmed on 2 different days, look closely at the 2 different color guitars 🎸 page is playing. Also, JPJ got his hair cut 💇♂️ between, so he’s actually waring a wig, through 1/2 the song. Also notice in the brake, look and you’ll see Page switching guitars 🎸. I was there “
The theramin is used in the studio version, but it's a good excuse for the otherwise senior partner (Page) to continually test out Plant's vocal ability. There is a mad legend that tells of a time when the PA system failed and 'Percy' (as the singer became known) was still audible above the band; which I think safely rests in the apocryphal category of rock folklore....
The way that LZ was able to go off on those massive freestyle fills is because of the 2 guys in the back. Bonham and Jones kept such great time and rhythm that it was very easy for Plant and Page to just slide right back in to the groove.
Told ya that Page is a magician! Back in the day we liked to listen to this song while on mind altering substances, hehe! The studio version is quite a trip. There was often a lot of interaction between Plants voice and Page's guitar. If you haven't yet, "Dazed And Confused" from this concert is a must see! Page's fantasy sequence is beyond cool! In their later years when Page was "under the weather" John Paul Jones became the glue that held the band together.
When you react to one of their songs for the first time, go back and listen to the studio versions. The "Immigrant Song" is another good one. Led Zeppelin is always pleasantly unpredictable!
Yes thats why i always prefer live. They aren't cutting an album. They just feel the music and play off each other. There manager said in an interview sometimes plant would be showing off and jimmy page will have to jump in on his solo before its time and it would be so smooth the audience never noticed
The record version is framework for their concerts. They all could improvise and pull it off and be in touch with the God of music and their talent and bravery created masterpieces.
Hey Man, if you can watch 14 minutes of insane music brilliance, and first thing you say you need more....You are ready for the whole show! It became di rigeur for "critics" to say this show was self indulgent, and the band was showing off....they don't know anything! The film is mostly live footage from MSG 1973 show, and they have "fantasy" footage and "home movies" spliced in throughout the show. When I was younger, I didn't want to see the live footage interrupted, but I actually really like the non-concert footage now, so you can see the band when they were not onstage. So, settle in for an evening, and try to watch the whole show for the full experience, it is an important document of what LED ZEPPELIN could do circa 1973! Cheers!
So, if you wake up with the new sunrise and all your dreams are still as new. And happiness is what you need so bad, girl, the answer lies with you. Led Zeppelin,.. Past🎸present🎸future 🎧
Improvisation was a major feature in their concerts. The instrument Page was playing is called a theramin, I think. You gave the best description of Robert Plant I've heard to date. Good reaction! I would recommend listening to the studio version at one point. Even in your own time if you prefer. I think it's worth it.
