watching young black men discover "classic rock" from another generation is GOLD. it brings me back to a time when us white kids heard this for the first time and were blown away. white folk take it for granted because we have heard it 50million times this blending and mixing of cultures is good for this country and should happen a LOT MORE! i would love to see some white dudes discover nelly for the first time. that man is as much a lyrical genius as bob dylan (check out country grammar "hot shit")

One of my best friends at the time, also died on that same day as the plane crash involving the Lynyrd band, it was her 19th Birthday- We were all so young, same age as her, it was shocking! She & our other girlfriends had all just been together 2 weeks prior having the best time at my Wedding. We all went to as many concerts together as possible back then. ALL the BEST concerts! Seriously, when you had to get up and leave I nearly fell off my chair! Love it... This is not intended to be a put down of newer music - there's definitely good stuff out there - but the majority of popular bands back in the day were just on another level of musicianship and songwriting. There were no crazy studio effects to hide behind, no social media fanbase, you had to blow people's minds with your music, pure and simple. You had to be a PLAYER. Beatles, Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Who, Hendrix, Cream, Yes, Allman Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, on and on - these were creators of true masterpieces. This song is almost FIFTY YEARS OLD! I don't know how many of today's hits will be blowing minds in 50 years. Enjoyed your video, you have open ears and an open heart which will make your life a much richer journey. PEACE

Imagine what music they would have made if not for the tragic plane crash. They were really coming into their own, and Steve Gaines was opening another chapter and really re-energizing the band. that was such a precious reaction. Imagine a whole generation of people coming up with songs like that woven through our consciousness and part of the soundtracks of our lives, this and other music in those time describes our collective energy well, looking from the shorter end of life...and it explains why so many in my generation refused to mature past our teens down deep...I feel 17 all day every day if I avoid mirrors lol. aw, I ain't changed that much anyway. #stuckinthe70sncoolwthat lol

On October 20, 1977, a Convair CV-240 passenger aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed in a wooded area near Gillsburg, Mississippi. Chartered by the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from L&J Company of Addison, Texas, it was near the end of its flight from Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Lead vocalist/founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray all died as a result of the crash while 20 others survive

This was my high school class song from 1979. We had over 1000 graduates that year, the largest ever for that high school (new high school split the classes after us). It tickles me to see you enjoy this song as much as we did then, and still do today. When my son married in 2017, our mother-son dance was to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Another timeless classic rock. This style was known as Southern Rock back in the 70's. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers, etc.

James, I can see you were quite affected by the song there! I first heard this at a motorcycle rally back in 1980 when I was just a boy (well 21 actually!). Amazing music, timeless. Tragically several members of Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plane crash in 1977. So sad they didn't go on to create more unforgettable tunes! I'm pleased that you enjoyed this music, many people would just write it off as white southern rock. Keep the faith bro, cheers from a (rather chilly) Otford, Kent, UK.

My absolute favorite reaction videos are watching black people listen to Freebird. Especially when they don't realize how many people are in the band and they think that Lynyrd Skynyrd is a person . They think they've discovered the greatest guitar player EVER. It's so enjoyable to watch for some reason to me. It's actually a beautiful thing in many ways as well. This particular video was one of my favorite reactions. Very real. The build-up and layering of guitars at the end of this song can make one's head feel like it's going to explode just before that final Crescendo of guitars at the end. It's an amazing song in so many ways.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is a southern rock band, another one of the most famous songs the original band wrote was sweet home Alabama. You may have never heard of the band for one main reason, the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and 5 other band members died in a plane crash in 1977, they named the band Lynyrd Skynyrd after Ronnie’s strict high school gym teacher and they decided to name the band after him, Ronnie’s brother Johnny Van Zant decided to regroup the band adding some new members and the surviving members of the original band, 10 years after the plane crash, some members survived the crash, hence the first album produced, “The Last of The Street Survivors” now, the band is ending they’re final and different tour called, “The Last of The Street Survivors Farewell Tour” back to the crash, it was a McDonnell Douglas Convair CV 240, it was a 40 year old plane, Aerosmith turned down the exact same plane that the band took, right before the plane started taxing to the runway, Ronnie said, “whatever happens while I’m on this plane, the lord will choose what happens” I think, but what people think is that the planes dual propeller engines must have burnt fuel extra fast somehow because the plane had enough fuel to make it to the exact location with plenty to spare, or the engines went bad because one of the surviving band members from the crash said that as they were going down, he saw fuel being dumped from the plane, so that there would be no fire, and that’s what saved a good majority of the crash, but anyways an airport worker, a couple days after the crash as another CV 240 was starting up it’s engines, it shot out massive flames burning up a lot of fuel. That’s all I got

I got to see them at Willie's Picnic in Tulsa, OK in 1977 a few months before their plane crash. Following a performance at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 20, 1977, the band boarded a chartered Convair CV-240 bound for Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they were scheduled to appear at LSU the following night. After running out of fuel the pilots attempted an emergency landing before crashing in a heavily forested area five miles northeast of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, along with backup singer Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact. Other band members (Collins, Rossington, Wilkeson, Powell, Pyle, and Hawkins), tour manager Ron Eckerman, and several road crew members suffered serious injuries.
