FIRST TIME LISTENING TO PENTATONIX - "HALLELUJAH" ...THIS IS MIND BLOWING! 

I'm always here for the Mitch slap, but this is the first whole-Pentatonix slap on the first song 🤣 Glad you enjoyed it.

When you heard Scott's opening vocals and said, "it does not look like that voice was going to come out of that guy", I just broke down in laughter because I was thinking to myself, "just wait till you hear Mitch sing!" I am like many other pentaholics who go in search of people who have never heard of them, as amazing as that is, to see their reaction to the group that we are all so totally in love with. To see somebody react like you did reminds me of the first time that I ever heard Pentatonix and I got that vicarious thrill all over again! Getting full body chills is not an unusual reaction. Some are even brought to tears because of the sheer beauty and magic of the music. I loved your reaction and I am subscribing in hopes of more Pentatonix. Cheers!

Pentatonix is a great starting point for dropping into the acapella rabbithole! I recommend "Bohemian Rhapsody" from them!

This by far is one of my top 3 by them... this is the 1st I heard of theirs. Next you have to check Bohemian Rhapsody. Mitch ( guy in the hat) will blow your mind even more. We Pentaholics call it being Mitch slapped, when he hits those notes lol. But my favorite videos... are their cover of IMAGINE by John Lennon. (Will definately shed a tear for that!) Bring tissues. And also their cover of CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT. You're gonna have an adventure going through the rabbit hole of PTX. This song turned me into a PENTAHOLIC 3 years ago.

This song was my introduction to Pentatonix and my reaction was about the same as yours...pure disbelief. First song out of over 200...and just when you think you have heard them at their best....wrong...it gets better!!! I subscribed for more Pentatonix or PTX . You cannot go wrong with any song whether it be a cover (well an upgrade) or an original. Love watching people discover the best acapella group their is...they are definitely in a league of their own!!! Welcome to our world!!!

Pentatonix has three Grammys and multiple platinum albums. They are also due to get a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 21 of this year. They are fixing to start another tour next month in Japan, then to Europe. They sell out major venues around the world.

I look every day for someone new to Pentatonix. Yes they are amazing. You need to react to their covers of 'Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone' and 'The Prayer'. Then dive into their other covers and originals. And don't forget to come back next Christmas for their Christmas songs!!!!

I wanted to add they got their name from the Pentatonic scale, which as I understand it is a 5 note cord, which the trio likes to use. The fact they ended up with 5 members was not related to that. When they applied to compete on the Sing Off, they were told they had to have a minimum of 5 members. They managed to pull the other two in just a day or two before taping started. They were meant to be together, there is no other explanation. You need to also check out the Sing Off season 3 which PTX won, it will tell you a lot about how they got here. I mentioned the trio, that is Mitch, Kirsty (rhymes with thirsty), and Scott, they have known each other since around the 8th grade, and sang in choir together all through high school. The fact they've been together this long is one reason they blend so well together. Their voices know each other better than they know themself.

Goose bumps at the end of the first verse. The Mitch Slap is going to be EPIC! In answer to your question, 5 voices making that sound is as easy to explain as it is difficult to do. The arrangements are "close harmony". When those rich chords are tuned just right you get the resultant harmonics that fill in above the voices. Pentatonix is famous for the wall of sound the musical powerhouses produce. Keep in mind that each verse is its own arrangement to highlight the diffrent members taking the lead, or melody, part. It is the same with the 6 times the chorus is sung. Each is distinct from the others. Mitch Grassi is a contratenor. His vocal chords are very short. Add in his inate musiciamship and you have a singer who can tear you apart. Be sure to listrn to Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, and The Prayer. Yes, it is only the 5 of them, and each is a gifted musician in their own right. They never do anything in the studio that the cannot duplicate live on stage.

I really hope you do more Pentatonix reactions. Some that come to mind for you are "Amazing grace," "Daft Punk medley," "90es Dance Medley," and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Some of the newer stuff are things like "sound of silence " and "Can you feel the love tonight." Besides covers, they also have originals like "Love Again "and "Sing". You would probably also like any of their Evolution of .... songs where they pick a specific artist and splice up many of the songs by that artist into 1 continuous thing

As far as originals go, “Coffee In Bed” is a real banger! Basically, any song you pick will hit you in a way that most full bands cannot. Enjoy the journey! Mitch, Kirsten and Scott were friends and sang together in high school I believe before they became big. When the decided to go on Sing Off they auditioned Kevin as the Beatboxer and Avi Kaplan. Pentatonix does a live, audience version, of this song and they are just as good live as they are in this version. Listen to Home Free’s cover of the song a “Man of Constant Sorrow” their Beatboxer does an awesome harmonica sound with his voice only.

Welcome to the acapella rabbithole! :D There are 3 groups that absolutely rule the acapella world here on YT: Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voiceplay. Home Free has a more country sound, and Voiceplay are considered the "theatre kids" who go the whole costume number while singing everything from Disney to heavy metal. Each of them have fantastic bass singers - Avi Kaplan (the one in this) left Pentatonix a couple of years ago and they now have a very lovely fellow named Matt Sallee; Home Free has the incredible Tim Foust; and Voiceplay has the inhuman Geoff Castellucci. These three all represent a rabbit hole that you will most definitely enjoy exploring. Get ready to spend hours and hours enjoying really GOOD music.

Ok, the tall blonde guy is Scott. He's the baritone. Then the next guy was Avi. He's a basso profundo, which means he can sing an octave below that standard bass range. Then the girl is Kirstie, (rhymes with thirsty) she s the soprano. Then there is Mitch. The guy in the the hat. He's acounter tenor. Then the other guy is Kevin. He's the beat boxer, but he's also a tenor. Avi has left the group, but you should listen to their version of amazing grace(my chains are gone) then let your momma listen to both songs.

The first singer, Scott can carry over several octaves, and actually covers the bass that Avi, the second singer normally sings while Avi sings a solo bit. Avi, also sings several octaves, Avi can also sing 2 sounds at the same time, Kirsten, sings several octaves, and has such a powerful voice but can also sing so softly and intimate, the 4th singer Mitch can sing effortlessly 6 different octaves, and. An sing higher than Kirsten, the last man Kevin it the beat boxer can sing several octaves as well and last I heard was working on a vocal cello, he also plays cello. Mitch can sing electric guitar...check out Bohemian Rapsody.

Oh, are you hooked. You will be a Pentaholic in no time at all. The group has actually existed for twelve years now, and three of them have been friends since childhood, so they've had lots of time to make themselves wonderful.

I love seeing people discover PTX. It is hard to imagine that anyone doesn't know of them. I will let you know that there has only been one member change. That was the bass, the man with the beard. The guy with the hat, and the girl, change their looks like chameleons, but it is always them. They have a huge catalog of music, both covers and original, and they have done all types. They are well known for their Christmas music. They breathe new life into old classics. Enjoy the ride.

I am 71 and I have spine and lung cancer. I listen to Pentatonix every single day. Hallelujah and The Prayer being the two songs that give me the most strength to make it through the day! This is not to say that I dont love ALL of their music. They bring me peace and joy and goose bumps and tears of joy. Thank you for reacting to them, and Thank you Pentatonix for sharing your talent's with all of us!

Avi Kaplan, second soloist and bass is a classically trained singer and had just received a letter of hire from the L.A. Opera House the day before this group formed and he chose the group. He remained with the group for 6 years before leaving and now has a solo career. He is, in my opinion, that greatest bass out there.
