Great Stuff 🤘 If your lookin' into checking out other 'Woman in Punk' you could check-out -- Siouxsie And The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden & Bow Wow Wow - Go Wild In The Country & Patti Smith - Horses Patti Smith - Piss Factory (1974) Patti Smith - Summer Cannibals (1996) 🙏 Patti Smith is the 'Godmother Of Punk Rock' You really need to give Dead Kennedys another listen -- Dead Kennedys - California Über Alles and / or Dead Kennedys - Holliday In Cambodia Don't think it matters much which song you listen to first, I reckon you will wanna hear the other one afterwards soon as... If ya wanna delve deeper into the origins of Punk Rock your could check-out -- The Sonics - Psycho (1964) & The MC5's - The American Ruse (1970) & Iggy And The Stooges - Search And Distroy (1973) I use to have "What do I Get" recorded on to a Cassette Tape from the Radio, and I used to think the song said 'We're too arrogant, oh-oh, we're too arrogant..." Another Punk Rock band maybe worth checking out would be -- Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device and / or Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster Finally I highly recommend checking -- Fugazi - Waiting Room (Live) Kinda need to check out the 'Live Version', the perfect example of how people react to music ! .

Kira, you are exactly right about the lyric on "Kill The Poor". The DKs love to be ironic and sarcastic to make fun of or criticize certain groups, like hypocritical people and the Military Industrial Complex and rich assholes, etc. They also make fun of stupid kids being idiots (listen to "Stealing People's Mail", for instance). Great stuff! Listen to some more DKs, to give yourself a wider perspective on their songs. They are very talented players.

Yes I recommend more DK because they're so provocative but also Educational! The singer named himself Biafra, which was a locale of a massacre that most people (including me) don't know about. Next punk video you do MUST include one of the most important and influential punk bands ever, the DESCENDENTS. They had/still have a totally different approach mixing punk with their surf sound background while writing lyrics about girls, coffee or fishing. Milo, the singer, is a scientist and had to choose between his career as a musican and life dedicated to science which he ultimately did but came back many years later. So I would recommend their debut album "MILO GOES TO COLLEGE, for many one of the best punk albums of all time. Listen to classics like "Suburban Home", "Bikeage" or one of my all time favourites "Hope". Without the Descendents, there wouldn't have been bands like NOFX, Green Day, Blink 182 or other big names of the genre. They're simply my most favourite punk band of all time and I'm so happy they still play shows and release great records. I even named my little son Milo because of them. I'm sure you will like them.

I was in my early teens in the late 70's, so Punk was my type of music (and still is to some degree 40+ years later). Poly Styrene (the singer with X-Ray Spex) was (in my opinion at least) a pioneer we sadly lost too soon. I remember God Save The Queen being banned, although that happened with a lot of the Sex Pistols music. I still occasionally listen to Dead Kennedys and Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables is still one of my favourite albums.

They Mosh pit was like...they weren't people anymore but a swarm of angry bees! Haha! I was watching from the balcony section and it was like, "nope, I'm not going in there!" Haha! But the band was awesome. The gig was also almost shut down because of Fire Code violations so all the fans had a sit-down protest! Jello Biafra, the lead singer of the DKs, had to come out and talk to the crowd to keep us cool/calm (so we would riot or anything) and they ended up giving the band 45 minutes to jam!! It was awesome! You should do "Drug Me" by the Dead Kennedys! It will blow you away!

Fun stuff! We wore out that Pistols album in college, along with prog, hard bob and classical (we were music majors and were all over the place). Another band to check out is Johnny Rotten's band after the Sex Pistols, called Public Image Ltd. (I'd go for Annalisa or Albatross).

I second checking out Public Image, I know you're into post punk stuff and I think that's Johnny's better and more interesting band. Pistols were fine but Johnny was REALLY itching to play something weirder

Yeah you picked like the one outlier in Dead Kennedys entire catalogue. I really really think California Uber Alles should be their redemption song. It's dark and menacing and sounds very different from just about any other punk band.

Super glad you reacted to Dead Kennedys - they're my favourite band of all time and you're really right about the lyricism and irony of the song. DK's entire schtick is irony, sarcasm and very dry humour. Their vocalist Jello Biafra is a genius lyricist. If you're looking for darker songs by them they have plenty, I suggest their song Holiday in Cambodia. It's probably their most famous track in the mainstream, and is very dark. It's about the Cambodian dictatorship of the Khmer Rouge and the arrogance of western "charity" relief. Forest Fire is another good song from their next album that's also on the darker side. Either way they're such a great band, they drew influence from so many genres and styles of music that their entire catalog is really essential listening because they did so much in such a short period of time.

I am going to agree with the others here about your DK choice. I love this one, but there are definitely better choices. Jello Biafra takes no prisoners in his evisceration of society. Rich, poor, liberal, conservative... doesn't matter to him. If he sees it as foolish he calls it out. His new band, Guantanamo School of Medicine is okay, but the Kennedys rock! All your other picks were absolutely top notch. Still waiting for some Sham 69, New York Dolls, Dead Milkmen, or MC5. There's a ton of great stuff still out there, so keep discovering!

Great reaction. Managed to finally see the Pistols at the 30th anniversary of Never Mind The Bollocks at Brixton Academy in 2014. They didn't disappoint. Also managed to see The Buzzcocks in 2018 in Norwich not long before the wonderful Pete Shelley passed away. So many great pop songs. Unfortunately X-Ray Spex were not around long enough for me to see, but who can forget that unmistakable voice of Poly Styrene. The Dead Kennedy's made a big impact in the UK in 1980 with great singles, inc. Holiday in Cambodia from the amazing debut album Fresh Fruit from Rotting Vegetables. Never have been able to get into The Misfits.
