WayV is the Mandarin Chinese sub-unit of the SM boy group NCT. NCT -- which stands for Neo (a pop culture term that means new/original) Culture Technology -- currently has 26 members. And the group right now as a whole has 5 sub-units -- NCT-U, NCT-127, NCT-Dream, WayV and NCT-WISH. Therefore, their style is meant to be new and original with elements that embrace different cultures and technologies to create their sound. What you just heard is considered NCT- WayV-style, they don't really have a traditional music style that you can attach to them. Currently, there are 6 members in WayV, however, there are only 5 members in "She a Wolf" because WinWin, who first debuted as a member of NCT-127 and NCT-U, is busy with solo activities in China right now and was unable to participate in this comeback. Ten debuted first as a member of NCT-U and he is also a member of SuperM; Kun -- the leader of WayV -- originally debuted as part of NCT-2018; and Xiaojun, Hendery and Yanyang debuted specifically as members of WayV at the beginning of 2019 when WayV was formed. Because NCT is an SM Entertainment group, it shouldn't be a surprise that they are also amazing singers. SM is known for having some of the best singers in the industry. You can't be an SM artist without having unbelievable vocal abilities. Even the company's rappers focus on vocal training. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. All of SM's artists and groups are known for being top tier when it comes to live vocals and perfect harmonies. And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of NCT songs are structured, as well as SM's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. WayV is NCT's fourth sub-unit, which debuted in January 2019. WayV produces songs in Mandarin and English and promotes in China.The only reason why WayV doesn't have NCT in their name like the other 4 NCT sub-units is because, at the time of their debut, there was a lot of political issues between Korea and China, and because of that Korean companies were not able to work in China. NCT's Chinese sub-unit has been going to debut for years, but with all the political issues it took SM a long time to find a way to work around all the rules the Chinese government put in place to prevent its native Chinese citizens from working with anyone associated with Korea and preventing anyone who was working with a Korean company from working in China. So in order to circumvent some of China's restrictions, SM found/created a Chinese company that was willing to take on NCT's Chinese sub-unit, but also allow SM to have a say in the group's concept and promotion activities. Part of how they get around the rules is they gave the group a name that distances them from their Korean roots. (That is also why WayV's Chinese fans are called WayZenNi instead of NCTzens and why WayV has their own lightstick design that is different than NCT's, etc.) The company WayV is under is called Label V, which is part of SM, but separate from the Korean branch of the company and it produces songs in Mandarin to keep the Chinese government happy. All the members of WayV also speak Mandarin and have some connection to Chinese heritage, but most of the members are not native mainland Chinese citizens, so this gives them some immunity from the Chinese government. But they are representing China and they are promoting Chinese culture, so the Chinese government kind of turns a blind eye to the fact that they are technically still under a Korean company, as long as they limit mentioning their connection to their Korean company while doing promotions in China. NCT is one of the most internationally diverse groups in all of Kpop. The members as a whole represent 8 different countries and they speak 7 or 8 different languages. For example, there are 11 native Korean members (*Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, *Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, and new members Sion and Daeyoung), *Mark is Korean-Canadian, *Johnny is Korean-American (from Chicago), 5 Japanese members (Yuta and new members Riku, Yushi, Ryo and Sakuya), *Ten is Thai, *YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). However, they all live and work in Korea, so everyone speaks Korean fluently. Plus, many members have attended international schools or lived abroad, so there are several members who are also *fluent in English, on top of speaking 2 or more other languages. NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the group or song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding very much like NCT. LOL NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's original goal was to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. That is why right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with all English versions of song like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as U.S. concert tours and promotional tours with the American media, etc, WayV produces songs in Mandarin and NCT-WISH is NCT's Japanese sub-unit that that produces songs in Korean and Japanese. So, this year is NCT's 8th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. Fun fact: Neo City is the city that NCT is from. Because the group is made up of so many diverse members who are from all over the world, when they come together as one group, they are said to reside in Neo City. Which is why NCT fans are NCTzens and WayV's fans are WayZenNi -- the zen connecting them with NCT (WayZenNi in Chinese means WeishenV (WayV in Chinese) will cherish you) -- because we are citizens of the Neo city. We fans are also multi-cultural and diverse from all over the world and from all walks of life, so we are invited to become citizens of SM's/NCT's Neo City. Although NCT officially started debuting in April 2016 with NCT-U, NCT was actually introduced to the media in February 2016 as part of SM's new Neo Culture Technology concept. I think it's kind of interesting to hear Lee SooMan's (SM's founder) explanation about the creation of Neo Culture Technology (Neo Culture Technology is really more encompassing than just NCT, the Kpop group is just one part of SM's Neo Culture concept, which has now morphed into SM's SM Culture Universe and Kwangya) and it's cool to see the epic way NCT was introduced to the media. The very first members of NCT entered wearing masks and their identities were revealed as they removed their masks. Lee SooMan is kind of known for being a little extra and going over the top, and this presentation is a good example of that. LOL

💚 WayV is one of the four permanent NCT subunits, so you will likely see some of the members in NCT U songs if/when you react to those 😊 There are six members - one isn't in this specific album/video, he's acting in a drama (his name is Winwin). Five of the six members are Chinese (Kun, Xiaojun, Hendery, Yangyang, and Winwin) and one member is Thai (Ten). Many of WayV's songs are made with two versions - Chinese AND Korean (for promoting/performing in either country) and also some songs are in full English (Love Talk, Bad Alive, On My Youth, Phantom, etc). All the members can speak Korean and Mandarin, two members (Hendery and Xiaojun, possibly more?) speak Cantonese, four members (Ten, Yangyang, Xiaojun, Hendery) speak English, Yangyang speaks German (he was raised there), and Ten can speak Thai. Yangyang also knows a little bit of Spanish and Ten knows a bit of Japanese (I think Hendery might know a bit of Japanese now too). 💚

WayV are a subunit of NCT that primarily sings in mandarin, but this release was in Korean for thr full kpop promotion cycle! You should check out their other promoted song, "Give Me That" which is a completely different vibe but so fun. 😊

They're fire! My top groups are Stray Kids too, and also WayV. They're just too good. The fact is this group has no bad songs-every song from them is dope. You can watch anything and I believe you won't be disappointed. I'll recommend "on my youth" & "phantom" both songs are very different from each of other idk what you'll thk about it but I hope you'll like them.

WayV for me is tied for ult group. This album is a bit different from most of their other tracks, check out Turn back Time, Phantom, Poppin' Love, On my Youth, Love Talk, Bad Alive, and I'ma stop there. Love them.

Their sound gives me a bit if O-TOWN and NSYNC vibe, esp O-Town.. I love both of those groups btw. You will definitely need to check out more of their stuff cuz they have such a great discography and are such great performers. And their discography feels more balanced to me cuz it has variety and their songs don't sound similar to each other. If you know what I mean.. and they usually have strong melodies and gave great climactic point and they really do sexy best.. They always do different stuff and style every comeback while still maintaining that WayV sound. For now, I would suggest you check out - ON MY YOUTH mv PHANTOM mv GIVE ME THAT mv TURN BACK TIME mv ACTION FIGURE performance video. - I specifically suggest these to show you their range

For another crazy switch up I would recommend ‘On my youth’ and for a really NSYNC vibe ‘Poppin’ love’ (although that is a track video meaning it’s not the whole song but still really cool)

WayV does early 2000s boyband harmonies so well. Itvis hard to pun down which group its similair to. You can see it in their songs like WayV's poppin love and miracle.

This is an interesting first listen/watch for a WayV song - still a great pick (I absolutely LOVE She A Wolf) but it is a bside from their newest album, so it'll be awesome to see you react to even more WayV main singles (and full MVs) and bsides too!

WayV definitely have a 90s boy and vibe to them. I think you were spot on with NSYNC. The second part of the double chorus reminds me of ‘Bye Bye Bye’ (Don’t really wanna make it tough, I just wanna tell you that I’ve had enough). Anyway I highly recommend you check out Love Talk, Miracle, and especially Poppin Love. All bangers.

love me some wayv… people describe them as “boyband excellence”. definitely recommend love talk, miracle and poppin love for more boyband sound, turn back time and moonwalk for a more intense rock sound, on my youth for a crazy ass dramatic melancholy switch up, and action figure for something super cool and slick with an amazing bridge

Ayyyye I saw Kun in the thumbnail and had to come check it out! WayV is part of NCT and I’ve been saying check NCT groups because they are disgusting in the best way!! NCT has like 23 members total but they are divided into sub groups ie: NCT 127, NCT Dream, NCT Wish and WayV also NCT U. For WayV you can’t go wrong with Love Talk, Phantom, Give Me That, Moonlight, Back to You, Face to Face or Bounce Back. Next I would recommend you go NCT127, NCT U and then NCT Dream and NCT Wish. NCT 127 recommendations are Cherry Bomb, Lemonade, Kick It, Regular (eng version is the og), Ay Yo, 2 Baddies, Fact Check and for slower powerhouse vocals check out White Night, No Longer and Sun and Moon. NCT U you can’t not listen to Make A Wish (it’s legit🔥), The Bat, Baby Don’t Stop, Rainy Day, OK!, Pado and if you feel freaky listen to Baggy Jeans 🤣 NCT Dream for upbeat songs I would recommend Ridin, Boom, Smoothie, SOS and ISTJ. I have been a czennie for a long time but somehow never got into NCT Wish so I can’t help there. Sungchan from Riize (Get A Guitar, Boom Boom Bass, Siren) used to be a member of NCT. If you haven’t checked out Riize they are 5th gen and fun with cool choreo. Also I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone recommend Tricky House by Xikets. That song is banned in my car because it’s too distracting 🤣🤣
