Yes, XG takes inspiration from a lot of Old School (such as 90's R&B) music. They have a selection of videos called XG-TAPE (showcasing the 4 rappers in the group), XG-VOX (showcasing their singing) and XG-MOVE (showcasing their dancing skills). While I first heard of XG pre-debut thanks to the YT algorithm, the videos that I mentioned really strengthened my appreciation of their talents, particularly the XG-TAPE videos. (The XG-TAPE videos are video mixtapes, so they freestyle on some crazy beats, such as beats from Rob $tone, N.O.R.E., J.I.D., Dreamville, and a few others.) You have to watch XG's "shooting stars", it's one of their best songs and you'll like it a lot more than this one. But I'm sure you'll like xg "girl gang" a lot more , but do The color coded Lyrics And the music video because the music video doesn't have the full song, it's just a part.

be careful you will be caught in the XG rabbit hole. They are amazing especially when they branch out into a rap collective. Then they are a dance crew then they become a r&b/pop group. They are hella versatile. What also makes is more incredible English is their third language as they are all native Japanese.
I personally like the song. Reminds me of groups like SWV, Blaque, and 3LW with this song but I think that you should watch next is Maya and Cocona from XG with their track "Show You Can." They made this track for a dance competition show (Street Woman Fighter) and shows the two youngest members of the group and two of the four rappers in the group. Also, I think that you would like "Shooting Star" much better than this one.

I dont think i heard anything like this in a while, definitely a homage to old school. This track will always be top tier.. you thought it was samey, but i literally think it was catchy, like straight off the bat. Im glad they dont do wild shit like other groups
If you want songs that throw wrenches into the works, I say almost all their other songs do that. I think this song exists and the way it is because it's guaranteed to get you moving in some way. Yeah it's safe but for good reason I believe. I say listen to the rest of their songs and I think you'll understand that this was their 'safe song'. I won't deny it is quite generic but again, I think that's intentional so I say listen to their other stuff. If you still don't like them after that then listen to their Voxs and Tapes. They're an extremely talented group of girls. They can genuinely sing, amazing dances and those that can rap are amazing rappers Their success rate of pulling people into becoming a fan is quite high so I suggest giving them another go.

watch their Cypher (rap line)/XGlee (vocal line) if you want to understand each of them individually. They just blended well together here in this song coz that’s how this song supposed to be. They are more into old school music while K-pop music usually have more switch parts to put a spotlight on each member.
