I bought my first roadie today. I went for a ride and I noticed it's much faster than a MTB. If I could give some advice to people going from a MTB to a roadie, watch your speed approaching corners, a road bike can travel way faster on the pavement than a mountain bike. I found that out today, didn't crash, but also didn't make my turn. Watch your speed, a road bike handles better at higher speed, so it can shock you how fast you're going. Ride safe everybody.

After adjusting my STI lever 2 mm bolts on my road bike it feels spot on. Such a simple adjustment made my reach more comfortable! You mentioned adjusting cable tension afterward. I did not have to do so but perhaps your readers and subscribers may want to know more regarding that. It may be confusing to some as to turning the cable adjusters clockwise vs anticlockwise. Thank you for all of you guidance!

Noticed a friend getting into road bike with mt. bike experience is trying to make his drop bar bike sit like a flat bar bike . he tries to avoid the forward lean position with his back at around a 45 degree angle or more . It looks like he wants to sit as he would on a stool with his back more vertical . Saddle too low , bars turned up too high , and then he complains of butt pain and thinks more fluffy padded saddle will help . I told him to accept that a road bike was made to be ridden with the forward bend of the body and to get a comfort , hybrid flat bar type if he would not do that . body weight distributed over 3 points (bars , saddle , pedals ) works better than trying to take it all on the cheeks .

Just traded in my MTB for a roadie, and immediately was impressed at how sensitive handling is, at lower speeds. Definitely took getting used to, but now that the frame fits my height better, I'm all the more excited to go out for more rides! Thanks for the tips. Will definitely take a look at these items (especially the one on adjusting the comboshifter)!

It might seem obvious that the padel on your brakes shifts your gears, and the lever engages brakes. But not so obvious that the brake lever pulls inward for your brakes, and shifts sideways for your gears.

I am new rider, so maybe someone with more experience can help, but I also found that my palms would feel a lot of pressure and even go numb on long rides. it didn’t matter how much I changed my grip. I fixed it after a while. I found that it was because the seat was tilted down too much. Initially, I thought it would be more comfortable for “the boys”, but actually it was causing me to slowly slip forward and my hands were holding me up. Hope this helps

@bruxotlaloc
@bruxotlaloc 3 года назад
Hey man! Don't worry about "breaking". What happened to your bike was probably a malfunction, not something you have done. Ask your father to teach you how to switch gears on his road bike, it will be a nice moment between you two! If you don't want to, that's fine too! Simply put, the bigger gear on the front makes pedaling harder, but the bike goes faster; the smaller the gear on the back makes pedaling harder and faster as well. Try to not select gears that make the chain cross too much, say you have 3 gears on the front and 6 on the back, don't select the smaller on the front and back at the same time. Try to work something like this (front/back): 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 2/2, 2/3, 2/4, 2/5, 3/4, 3/5, 3/6. That way you don't cross the chain too much. If you only have 1 gear on the front and several on the back, go at it! If you have 2 in the front, just use the bigger back half with the smallest front gear and the smaller half with the biggest gear on the front. It sounds complicated but it's really not!

Harsh ride? Check road bike tire pressure charts for appropriate psi/kg combo and go for lowest possible. Way too many people pump their tires too hard. Change tire width from 23mm to 25mm or 25mm to 28mm where possible. Today the standard is a 25mm tire for road bikes with an ever growing tendency for 28mm. Terrible brakes? Check on maintenance. Modern road caliper brakes are as good as disc brakes in dry and only slightly worse in the wet. Consider upgrading your brakes for more contemporary ones if they're old. Bad brake-lever ergonomics? Hoods = chill riding + situations with no need for reactive braking; you should only have to modulate your speed. Drops = any kind of speedy riding. If you need emergency braking on the hoods, you're not doing it right. Any kind of situation where you must react quick requires you to be in the drops. Get used to using the drops in any case you might be put in an emergency situation. You have more control and better grip, are safer with lower center mass and have more brake leverage in the drops. Front wheel toe overlap? Road bikes are designed for fast tarmac riding. Unless you are going relatively fast, you will have toe overlap. But it will only happen while trying to maneuver slowly off-road (side-walks etc.). You simply cannot rotate the handlebar that erratically while riding normally (ie. fast) so shouldn't be a problem. You will get used to feet positioning in time and won't overlap your toes. If not, you may want to get a touring bike with a slack head tube angle or a hybrid for city use.

Terrible brakes? Did you check them? Maybe it just needs a little adjustment. Sometimes they are not perfectly set up.
@thexardas8395
@thexardas8395 5 лет назад
Normal riders spend 50 - 70% time on drops, your brakes need adjustment, change tires to 28 like every normal person and only idiots turn front wheel to turn a bike. To turn shift your weight on a road bike same as on motorbike. Cornering technic is different on MTB and road bikes but in any case never turn front wheel unless it is 180 slow turn in tight space.

Of course is matters. camo-design is the fastest, because the air can't see the frame and because of this you have no drag!

Steve Finesse I been mountain biking for quite some time and I said that before that road bike looks uncomfortable, it could hurt my back because of the position. But Just recently I bought a road bike just to try it. And after a week of road biking I feel in love with it. It’s so fast and light. I can travel 30 to 40 miles a day without any back problem.
