Seeing John Wolf saving John from wolves has got to be in someone's bingo card lol yeah John Marston was the character you play as in the previous game, John. His wife, Abigail and son, Jack were also in that one. A lot of the characters are from the previous game.
I played this and watched multiple playthrough of this (at least the earlier parts) and I didn't know you could see and talk to Kieran before you do that Pearson mission. That's pretty neat little detail. Nice find, John.
just wanna say, even if you don't love the gameplay and side quests, the main story and characters alone are more than enough reason to complete RDR2. It's got some genuinely impressive writing going on.
I've said this before and I'll continue to say it; RDR2 is a masterpiece of storytelling. From characters, themes, dialogue, and reincorporation, Dan Houser and his team are masterful writers. I loved the GOW remake, but RDR2 was robbed of the 2018 Game of the Year.
Well first of all God of war 2018 is not a "Remake". Also, GOW was very well deserved for Game of the year in my opinion as it had a Fantastic story telling and gameplay.
@@AerialFrostgow definitely didn’t deserve goty, rdr2 is the greatest game ever made, gow (and gowr) are both mediocre walking simulators that don’t even respect the mythology they’re based off of enough to represent it accurately, the gameplay sucks too
@@sebastiankruse6202 sure I respect your opinion although i totally disagree with everything you said. GOW 2018 was a great game with the best story narrative, fights and best gameplay. Thats the reason why so many people voted it for the game of the year and it won over rdr2 deservingly so. If you didn't like GOW that's totally cool, i am glad you enjoyed rdr2 and had fun. In the end its all about having fun.
This is my all time favourite game, for almost every reason! The story, the setting, the free roaming, the potential to cause chaos if youre feeling mischievous, the realistic animals, the secrets to discover etc etc. It checks all my boxes! I hope you love it, not just for us, but for your own sake!
@@jessicamacaulay7462 yeah but mark seemingly didn’t really care about the game, he didn’t seem to enjoy the story and it felt like he just tried to rush through it
My favorite content creator playing my favorite game of all time. Dreams really do come true. 😭😭😭 A big thank you in advance, John, for taking the time to play this MASSIVE game.
John, For emersion and lore's sake, you can oftentimes "target" members of your group on some of those long quiet horse rides, and it will prompt you to engage in optional conversations.
I am SO excited to get to experience this for the first time again with you John. Honestly, I hope you love it. It's such a great story. I don't comment much but I'm on the edge of my seat for this series.
Helpful tip while playing: If you want to know who's talking during cutscenes and it helps remembering names this way, in settings for subtitles you can make it where it shows the characters names when talking.
One of the coolest details of this game is during the cut scenes you can pause the game and open the map and everyone (represented by little dots) will show up in their exact positions in that cutscene, just thought that was a really cool touch. Looking forward to your playthrough of one of my favorite games!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!! honestly i love this game mostly for the horses, i love taming the wild ones, i love giving them oats and apples, i love patting them, i love running everywhere with them, and also i love the hunting mechanics esp for the small animals with the tiny game arrows. but it has great characters too so thisll be so EXCITING!
@@haisuarina i honestly really like the mustangs because that was the first one i bonded with! i love any who are fast or who have fun colors and patterns. i actually took a black american standardbred from the pinkertons!
@@haisuarina i remember getting the notification during a race where it said that my mustang (grey, named bullet) got more stamina because of our bond and success in the race and i was so happy haha
John, my wife and I are soooooooooooo stoked for your playthrough!! Man oh man, we hope you love RDR2 as much as we did. (also - fast forward to Episode 5 of your RDR2 playthrough and you're wearing a cowboy hat, have a handlebar mustache, there'sa horse on your office, etc.)
Not alone in saying this is my favourite game of all time. I replayed it only recently but you can never ingest this game too much, it's just a masterpiece. Also so glad John hasn't had anything spoiled!
I'm so happy that John is playing through this, excited to watch this entire series through to the end! Quite a commitment, but I've got a feeling it's gonna be an amazing ride :D
The frustration with the controls and accidentally killing people is why I didn't finish this game. When I tried to mount my horse and instead punched a woman in the face causing the town to turn on me, that's when I gave up 😅 glad I get to enjoy the story via you now John!
The controls frustration is why I switched from playing console to PC. I still occasionally kick instead of dismounting or grab an NPC instead of talk to them, but it's much better on PC
@@Ksweetpea interesting... I might give it another go then on pc! Tbf I went straight from playing God of War where Kratos is so responsive, to Arthur where he feels like he's walking through treacle lol
John for the love of God I know it’s a long game but it’s worth the adventure! Please continue the journey as not many of us fans of EVERYTHING you do get to experience these types of games! Please continue! We love you!
This is one of my favorite games of all time. It's SUCH a treat to watch you learn and play through this. Aaaand that means it's time to fully play through this again for the 10th time.
It's a fantastic game, though difficult to get back into because of the controls. I must have spent more time just galloping around looking at the landscape than actually focus on the plot. RDR2 definitely raised my standards when it comes to AAA video games.
Yesssss, time for horsey game, everybody!!!!! I struggled with the controls too tbh, I ended up enabling some of the accessibility options and I got it to a point where I wasn’t constantly fumbling 😭
So excited for this play through 🎉 I would LOVE to watch John play La Noire. His commentary would be gold, especially for the interrogations. All the Mad Men cast might also prompt some past life advertising stories, which are my fave 😊
My man just called the great Arthur Morgan a sidekick. I don't think the story could hit nearly as hard if you were Dutch at this point in his life, considering how the story goes and the events of RDR1. Also, can't wait for the extensive clothes shopping and barber choices episodes.
Omg the Charles moment was so good XD I'm stoked about this playthrough! I always meant to play this game since a friend's brother worked on it, but I had tried the first Red Dead Redemption back in the day and was miserable at controlling the horse so I gave up. I think I'm in the same boat as you expressed re: being somewhat turned off by the 'vehicular gameplay' in Rockstar games. So I'm definitely looking forward to getting to experience this legendary game without having to suffer the controls myself (:
The main evidence of you not having played many Rockstar games is that you don't seem to glance at the map very often. Other than that, I think you're doing very well! This game is such a great experience with beautiful visuals and fantastic music. I hope you enjoy it! I love to just sit back and enjoy the scenery of it. I barely even leveled up in Red Dead Online because I would just hang out and adventure with my horse instead of doing anything useful. :D
bumping into Charles with your horse and having him die instantly absolutely made me lose my mind. its been fun revisiting this game through your playthrough so far John lol
LMAO, every time you say you "can't pick out your horse"...My man, you've been stuck staring at that horse's painted rear-end for loooong, cinematic stretches. /s
So glad to see you’re playing this. It’s especially fun because you haven’t finished RDR so you’re experiencing this story with a fresh perspective, which I haven’t seen in any other play-through.
Yay I'm so excited for this series! It's fun to see your initial impressions of the characters and the predictions you're making for the story. The controls can be overwhelming at first but once you get used to them I thought it all felt pretty natural. Btw, if you're ever really deep in a menu (like the compendium), you can usually just hold down the back button to exit instead of manually backing from every sub menu. Can't wait for the next part!
I am so stoked for this playthrough! I'm super excited to see John use his immaculate fashion sense to dress up Arthur. (Low-key one of my favorite parts of watching him stream DBD. His Yun Jin fits.)
Huge fan of this game. I really love the acting in this game. Really characterful, eg the Dutch voice cracks, etc. Adds to the authenticity. Hope you enjoy your playthrough as much as many of us have and continue to do.
SO EXCITED!! this is one of my favourite games, i spent almost a month playing it just because i loved exploring and walking around the environment so much that i didnt want it to end lol really hope you enjoy it, john!!
I really hope you enjoy it enough to finish the game. I love watching people play this game for the first time. This trilogy of games is one of the best ones I have ever played. And RDR2 is one of my favorite games ever made. It’s a true masterpiece, and it’s a wonderful journey to go on from start to finish.
OH MY GOD i just finished this game literally 30 mins ago and you wont believe my shock when i open youtube AND SEE THIS! IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO PLAY THIS AND WATCH THIS! LETS GOOO!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY THIS MORE!!!!! I'm a fan of the game but I'm a massive fan of your witty and snappy commentary and I've been struggling to get into anyone else playing it since they're so loud and over the top or really quiet and barely speaking I absolutely adore you playing games and this is one of the games I've enjoyed the most recently! Ofc you don't have to keep playing it but I'm super glad you did!
Don't worry, take your time learning everything! It's a lot in the beginning but it's a long game and you learn on the way. I'm sooo excited to see you play this, I love your commentary. Played the game myself for the first time this year and it's now one of my favorites! Hope you like it :)
Just a tip: personally, I think it's better to sell whatever canned goods you find, and just hunt and cook meat. It fills your bars much more than canned junk. Keep fresh fruit and stuff for your horse, though.
A few chapters in money becomes irrelevant because your weapons are fully upgraded and your ammo maxed out, at that point you can just buy out the whole general store every couple hours and be set.
Very well! This is my first comment although I consume your content for a couple of years now. I like the way you perceive the games, being practical, technical, logical. I relate it 100%! About Red Dead II, I am watching as if it was my first gameplay. This game is so well done, so catchy! I'm sure you will do a good job. Gosh help me to find time to watch it...
This being your first rockstar game from start to finish it extremely exciting because this is my favorite game of all time. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to
So excited to see the playthrough start! Controls tip: they will become more muscle memory and remember tapping and holding buttons can be different inputs. Can't believe you attacked Charles like that.
You hadn't been popping up on my timeline recently until the Casting of Frank Stone video so I've some catching up to do. I'm so happy to see you playing this and hope you enjoy quite possibly the greatest game of all time imo! You'll be using Arthur Morgan quotes every day before you know it 😂
So excited! I definitely recommend exploring. There’s some interesting, even creepy things going on. Also, the game picks up around ch. 4! It can be a slow start but so worth it!
I cannot wait for john to get looped into the game's memes haha My housemate played rdr2 and we all just walk around quoting arthur and dutch occasionally
Yes! My fave RU-vidr playing one of my most fave games ever! Id never played a Rockstar game before rdr either John so your playthrough is sinilar to how i played the first time. The story is amazing though.
OMG, you've already started this? I’m so late lol. Didn’t get any notifications, so I almost forgot. So excited for this playthrough! I really hope you enjoy the game it was such an emotional experience for me.
One of my favorite works of art out there, it fills almost every niche I have, slow-burn, top tier animations, etc. It was really ballsy of Rockstar to release an open-world game that doesn't feature constant moment-to-moment action with cluttered icons everywhere on the map. Like most open world titles I've played these days.
was soooo excited for you to be playing this. you prob know by now or other ppl will say but light tap down dpad for objectives and you dont have to worry about survival Too much but arthur gets different perks depending on how much you eat. You SHOULD feed your horse though 😂 that's important. ia about the car gameplay thing but its significantly less stressful past the tutorial chapter IMO. they keep you on a rail to really get you used to those controls. super hype 🎉🎉 great first ep!!
oh i wanted to say too, i think THIS song is fine, but the songs at the end of the game might need to be edited around. theyre the only ones I have seen give ppl trouble. trying to share with no spoils but it'll be obvious when you hear them. and they're *hours* away
Glad you're playing this. Yes, it's "slow-paced" and a LOT of traveling. But Wow the things you'll see and do while traveling are incredible. Also, also, I have "driving" mechanics too. I.E. Horses and autos, but they did this one right, and I actually USEd my horse in RDRII instead like The witcher (great game) where I would rather walk LOL
So glad you’re playing this! I’ve always thought the game was compelling to watch but couldnt find someone I really wanted to see play the whole story - I think your style of gameplay is going to finally scratch that itch for me. Hope you have fun with it!!
yoooooooooooo YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I am so excited, I have been hoping you were going to do a RDR2 playthrough after you mentioned it in one of your shareholder meetings! PS I loved your narrations of Arthur's journal entries LOL
