I saw Jimmy Page on an interview shortly before Jeff passed and Jimmy said Jeff was the Best Guitarist in the world! Jeff was blown away. Jeff wore the same outfit while playing for Beth Hart’s tribute to Buddy Guy at the Kennedy Honours. Same Night has Led Zeppelin! He was best friends with Johnny Depp and they had been touring together for last of Jeff’s touring. Jeff really was there for JD during and after the big case!❤RIP Jeff

Vinnie Call- lie-oo-toe. Formerly with Frank Zappa. And there's a 4th member on keys- Jason Rebello who is just as good as you'll find if you keep on with this "Live at Ronnie Scott's". btw both Jimmie Page (friends with Jeff since age 13/ 14) and Robert Plant in the audience- separately. Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.

Beck was much better than both Page and Clapton put together. It was the songs he wrote that most people didn't care for. He didn't compromise. If he was a strait up Rocker, he would have been the GOAT!!! The guitarist that CAN'T be copied...I'm not even sure he knows what he's going to play at any given time!

As a pure player, absolutely. Sadly, Jeff didn’t have the temperament, songwriting, arranging and production capabilities Page had, or even Clapton, for that matter.

Jeff Beck was the greatest in my book. Plays without a pick. Makes sounds nobody else gets. And the lovely young lady on bass is Talia Wilkenfeld from Australia. Vinnie Caluto is on drums, used to play with Frank Zappa. Saw Jeff Beck with Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1989. What a night. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant attended this gig you are watching. They show them occasionally on the DVD version.

I first saw Jeff with the Yardbirds in 1965. He inspired my meagre guitar playing efforts for the rest of my life. I saw him live many times, even met him when my band supported The Jeff Beck Group. When he passed away I simply couldn't imagine a world without him.

All I can do is second everyone's comments here. Jeff Beck never stopped improving ( ! ) in his entire career, a fact which Jimmy Page praised him for when inducting him into the RRHOF. As for talent, Jeff discovered a young singer named Rod Stewart and Rod's greatest work in singing is on the first two Jeff Beck albums, Truth and the downright dangerous Beck-Ola. Check out Shapes Of Things next, a song which led Brian May to proclaim, "He's got notes on his guitar that aren't on mine!" Or for more of this particular lineup, as others have suggested, watch Big Block, Scattetbrain, or Nadia and Where Were You. (That last one sent Eddie Van Halen to the LA forum cuz he HAD to see if Jeff could reproduce it live. He did.)
@Ebriel0000000

All is ok but "He's got notes on his guitar that aren't on mine!" isn't a Brian May quote : it's a Ritchie Blackmore one. Anyway we could name Clapton, Page, Zappa, Gilmour, McLaughlin : they all consider Jeff like the top. Oh, if you didn't watch the Ronnie Scott's "Angel (Footsteps)" and the way it ends, it's a must see must ear.

And guess who Jeff brings onstage near the end to do a song or two with? Eric Clapton. So, Beck is #1 and they ALL new it. 💪🎸🎸🎸

Jeff Beck - Stratus & Cause We've Ended As Lovers ...Vinnie on drums and a young Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. Google Jeff Beck and Tal Wilkenfeld. She had been playing bass for just a few years when she showed up at Jeff's door to audition for the 2007 tour. She was barely 21. Jeff thought it was a joke by Vinnie who recommended her. but he soon realized her talent and became her mentor. I love watching the interactions between them. There is more to this story like she spent the night before showing up in the hospital with food poisoning from the flight out and it was a 50 mile drive into the country to Jeff's estate.

20 year old Tal Welkenfeld was later replaced by one of her inspirations, Rhonda Scott. She immediately quit Prince's band when Jeff asked her to join and remained with him until his death. Jeff Beck shows off his fellow players and then gives us a shimmering solo. This is genuine Jeff Beck. He was a gentleman. And we also witnessed those things at school in Sutton East Secondary School. We all witnessed it our class! We watched when he came in with bits and pieces and sat down in the teacher's store cupboard when he said he was trying to make a guitar. Notes came out of that cupboard! Jeff Beck played a monumental part in Rock/Blues/Jazz fusion history,amongst other music jonres he chose to play. He replaced Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds. Jeff changed the band into hit makers during his time in the band with his innovative guitar playing.Jimmy Page joined the band initially as a Bass player.Then later as dual lead guitarists. When Jeff left the band Jimmy stayed on and morfed it into Led Zeppelin. This concert at Ronnie Scotts was over 5 nights. He had Eric Clapton on for 2 songs. Over these nights in the audience were Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Jon Bonjovi, Brian May and others who were blown away by his performances. Tal, Vinnie and Jason on keyboards were exceptional. There isn't a song on this DVD not to like. The final song was created by Jeff called Where Were You. This song was declared by Brian May from Queen as possibly the greatest guitar performance EVER recorded. Check out the entire DVD. Rest in peace Jeff 😢 Neil from Sydney Australia (where Tal Wilkenfelds from)

No only Jeff Beck was an extraorinary guitarist. But he also managed to gather other extraordinary musicians in his band. Drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and bassist Tal Wilkenfeld are one of the best rhythm groups of all time. THey had a deep musical connection, even though they belong to different generations. Tal was just 21 years old when this concert was played.

@barrieflix

True in parts. Yardbirds original guitarist was Eric Clapton, who was a blues purist and quit when they got too commercial for his liking. They invited Jimmy Page to replace him, but he was happy in his studio session career and recommended his friend Jeff Beck. Jeff got the gig and influenced the sound of the Yardbirds and rock guitar in general. They got quite successful then the bass player quit - Jimmy Page agreed to join on bass. Soon after, inevitably? - rhythm guitarist moved to bass guitar, and Jimmy Page stepped up to dual lead with Jeff Beck. A few recordings, a movie appearance in Blow Up, and part of a USA tour later when a tired and sick Jeff quit. Yardbirds later fell apart, & to fulfil obligated gigs Page & friends performed as the "New Yardbirds" - who soon became Led Zeppelin.

Jeff Beck is one of the most successful, most influential guitarists of all time. EVERYONE - and I mean EVERYONE - wanted him to play on their records and in their gigs and were HONORED if he asked them to perform with him. His concerts with Stevie Wonder are incredible. (I believe Stevie Wonder wrote "Cause We Ended As Lovers".) Listen to any interview with Jimmy Page or Brian May or Eric Clapton when they are asked who they admire most ... the answer is always Jeff Beck. Do yourself a REALLY BIG FAVOR and listen to any of his duets with Stevie Ray Vaughan ... they toured together ... watch "Going Down" LIVE to see two of the very BEST having the time of their lives! EXCEPTIONAL!

Correct, on Stevie Wonder writing CWEAL. My recollection -- and details may be slightly off -- is that the riff that became Superstition was written by Jeff. He and Stevie were put together by brass at the record label, and nothing really came of it as far as them recording together, but Jeff was messing around and Stevie walked in on what became Superstiton, said "I'm paying for the studio time, now!" and Jeff said use it any way you want. Stevie *paid* him by writing 'Cause We've Ended as Lovers for him!

Imo once he reached commercial success with a couple of albums. he had the money that he could play what, how and who he wanted to play with. he took playing guitar to a whole nothere level and making it talk in ways no others could. he was a man and a player ahead of his time. jeff and Stieve ray were awesome when they hooked up. i don't know if him and joe Bonamassa ever had a session together. that would be an amazing set as well.

Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's.....a great show in a small intimate setting. Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Tal Wilkenfeld on Bass. Jeff can get sounds out of a Strat that were impossible for other guitarists. The song Cause We Ended As Lovers was written for Jeff by Stevie Wonder in exchange for work Jeff did for Stevie. Tal was 21 at this show. She recorded with Prince in 2010. Dude, I can see how touched you were by this. Get the Ronnie Scott DVD Jeff Beck live at Ronnie Scott's. Jeff was always contemporary in his sound, recording in the 60,70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's and 20's Jeff and Rod Stewart were together in the 60's and 70's, Jan Hammer played keyboards on several of his solo albums. Plug into something from each decade from Jeff, and I bet you'll get his entire collection and that is cash well spent.

I'm a big Jeff fan and agree with most of what you say. But "'Cause we ended as lovers was actually written by Stevie Wonder for, and already recorded with, his ex-wife (? partner) Syreeta. As I understand it Jeff was messing about on drums when Stevie created "Superstition" - Stevie wanted to give it to Jeff, but his management insisted he do it himself - they were correct!! But Jeff did record it with BBA. Then Stevie suggested Jeff cover CWEAL - he was correct!!!

Beck, Clapton and page were not all in the Yardbirds concurrently. Clapton left when the band was enticed away from the blues, and he joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Beck joined the Yardbirds and then Page joined as their bass player. After a while, he switched to guitar. By the time the Yardbirds bit the dust, he was their sole guitarist. He still owns the band name. The secret of Jeff Beck's style was in his right (picking) hand technique, as opposed to the left (fretting) hand with almost every other guitarist. The bass player here is Tal WIlkenfeld and the drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta, who played with Frank Zappa previously.

Watch the entire Live at Ronnie Scott's. Every song is great. They add a few singers like Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton.

Yes, you are right Jimmy Page…. he came after Jeff in Yardbirds. Jeff came after Eric Clapton in Yardbirds. The best years of Yardbirds were when Jeff was in it 👍 So glad you are introduced to Jeff Beck. Watch Beck playing Nadia live at Ronnie Scott’s to see a close up of how he emulates eastern sounding instruments.

clapton was original lead guitar for the yard birds. when he left he was replaced by jeff beck. at the same time jimmy page came in on base. when the band broke up beck gave page a fender telecaster as a gift this was pages intro to guitar. a few tes later page formed the new yardbirds later renaming themselves led zeppelin!

side note: the new yardbirds were playing a gig in Germany, after the show reporters waited outside .keith moon, drummer for the Who had attended. being famous a reporter asked how he liked the show. moon answered "they played so bad they went down like a led balloon. they were in Germany so the next day in the paper it was printed as led zeppelin (balloon in German) .the band read this and rather than being offend said 'WE HAVE A NEW NAME!'
