So EXCITED for the movie to come out! I loved this anime! If you want to watch all the reactions to Overlord & in full head over to www.patreon.com/GazMASHreactions I can't wait for more! ❤
10:16 The forth opening is by the same band as the first two, one cool thing is that the band who did the third one is the one who always does the endings but in the third season they change the roles.
Overlord openings are such perfect fits. Whenever I listen to them, they make me feel like “I’m a villain and am damn well proud and happy as one.” They’re loud, fast, energizing, and fit so well with the anime itself.
Overlord is such a damn good show. I've watched 650+ anime titles and Overlord is in top tier list. Fun fact: Maruyama (author of Overlord) has a full time job, and he built such a DAMN GOOD world with so many good characters just as his hobby.
Overlord is technically an Isekai, an anime with the protagonist sent or trapped in a different world. The Overlord, who goes by several names but I will just call Ainz, is a guy who finds himself in his favorite MMO except it is now a fantasy world and his closest friends/guild mates are gone. The MMO is now a fantasy world and all that remains of his former Guild are various NPCs you see surrounding him in the opening animations. These NPCs, now real people, are the creations of his former friends and all Ainz has left to remember them. They are more or less his new family. They see Ainz, as the only remaining "creator" as the "Supreme One" and worship him as such. Ainz has taken it upon himself to do whatever it takes to keep them happy, even should that mean subjugating and conquering this new world. The villain is the main character.
Not Villain per say he will basically aim to create an Utopia for all races. That is not an evil motivation by eradicate slavery, poverty and flatten the social hierarchy a lot. Just look at e-rantel and carne village as prototypes for what's to come. Ainz cares not for the means, he only cares about the ends. Not an Anti hero because he works for the betterment of his own people and creating future for his friend by conquest an Anti-Villain maybe. He's not pure evil he is affably evil. He keeps his word, repays his debts and is genuinely polite to everyone.Ainz does not inflict harm upon his own people. And that makes it all the difference. Let look at other kings. They would have easily massacre all the citizens of other races too if they could when they conquer new lands. Human can only look at Ainz as evil because Ainz is killing them instead of killing other races. If it were any other races, nobody would probably care. He's a genuely nice guy set you very basic conditions either to submit and prosper or die. He's like Ghengis Khan of Anime World.
This is the show I am currently obsessed with. No spoilers here, most of this information is from the first 2 episodes, the show now spans 4 seasons so you have a lot to catch up on Overlord is about a man who becomes trapped in a Futuristic DMMORPG called "Yggdrasil", after the last day the servers are shutdown forever. He is somehow transported into a new world with all of his original in-game powers intact. He was max level in the game and by the new world standards is ridiculously Overpowered, laughably so. His name is "Momonga" but he goes by "Ains Ooal Gown" which was the name of the guild him and his in-game friends built together, which is a play on worlds from the name of their original guild name "Nines Own Goal" titled after the original 9 friends who started the guild. All the NPC characters in the guild and New world come to life and the show is about Momonga and the NPC's exploring what this new world has to offer and absolutely dominating everything the encounter.
yeah ever since season 4 started it reminded of how obsessed I am with a series like this. I feel like there a much lacking needing for more evil style MCs.
While there is a lot of fighting and action in Overlord it's actually surprisingly more in-depth in politics, mind games and drama than you would expect
Overlord is the perspective from the monster side of a fantasy world, so rather then the normal good vs evil, the protagonist side has a completely different set of morality then what you are used to seeing. Its a very refreshing show to get into.
Overlord is a great series, it's the first anime I have watched that actually got me to buy the light novels or Manga in an attempt to find out what happens in the story from where the anime had left off at when I first go into the series, because I needed to know more. Definitely give it a try.
I love these openings. My favourite anime is Dusk maiden of amnesia / Tasogare otome x amnesia. It has these 3 incredible songs. The opening: Choir Jail by Konomi Suzuki, the ending: Calendrier by Aki Okui and the season finale song: Requiem by Nao Hiiragi. The ending of Beyond the boundary / kyoukai no kanata is also really good. The song is Daisy by Stereo dive foundation.
Wasn't sure what to expect but I'm very glad I clicked. In all my years of being an Overlord fan, it's the first time I notice the piano in the third opening, thanks to you, good sir ! I'll be watching more of your reactions, you're very genuine and cheerful, good commentary too
I really hope you at some point react to this series. I has quickly become one of my favourite shows in 20+ years of anime watching and for some reason there is no overlap between reactors I enjoy watching and reactors who watch Overlord. Opening 4 is such a vibe and I play it in Beat Saber nearly daily
I've watched Overlord 3 times and a like it a lot. I'm 52 and I really liked it. Love the openings too. I don't mind saying I'm an anime fan. Enjoy watching it.
VORACITY is totally my fav, but they're all very good ^^ I'll go ahead and suggest a bunch of anime OP and ED i feel don't get recommended enough (since you'll most likely get recommended the "main" ones anyway from all of your other viewers). Hope you get to them one day, i'll keep recommending them until the day comes :D Rage of Bahamut: Genesis OP - Existance (same artist as final AoT OP) Death Parade OP - Flyers Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront) OP - Hello, World Shiki OP1 - Kuchizuke Yowamushi Pedal: Glory Line OP 2 - Dancing Kokkoku OP - Flashback Tentai Senshi Sunred OP1 Umineko no Naku no Koro ni OP - Katayoku no Tori GTO the Animation OP2 - Hitori no Yoru Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii OP (Wotakoi) - Fiction Hunter x Hunter (2011) ED 1 - Just Awake Puella Magi Madoka Magica ED 2 - Magia RDG: Red Data Girl ED - Yokan Final Fantasy: Unlimited ED - Vivid
"I'm guessing the skeleton guy is the overlord and everyone else is against him, or maybe on his team?" Yes. And no. And also yes. It's a really fucking weird dynamic that even the latest season hasn't gotten into the most complicated parts of. All I can say without spoiling huge plot points is that nobody is aware of the whole picture.
Overlord has a similar underlying mystery as to attack on titan but definitely different genre. It's going to be a show you would enjoy seeing your interest in AOT.
6:38 Ranking for me goes: Nr 1: Hollow Hunger Nr 2: Voracity Nr 3: Clattanoia Nr 4: Go Cry Go That being said they are all on my top 20 favorite intros.
Funny I find this video today on the release of the last episode for S4. If you ever want to get into the show full binge mode now is the time since subbed is finished and dubbed is only 2 weeks away from finish.
My favorite opening was Voracity until Hollow Hunger came along! Suggestion: Check out Kimetsu no Yaiba's openings and Death Parade's opening (this one more for the music)!
About the bands All 4 songs are wriiten by Tom H@ck While he paired up with Masayoshi Ōishi (group name OxT) for the 1st, 2nd and 4th And for number 3 with Kihow (group name myth & roid) Btw endings all are by the same people but back for the 1st and 2nd ending the myth & roid singer was Mayu maeshima and she then made the so far only song not written by tom h@ck in endin 4
If I had to order by which ones I liked best 1. Opening 1 Clattanoia 2. Opening 3 VORACITY 3. Opening 4 HOLLOW HUNGER 4. Opening 2 Go Cry Go Really the hardest two to order is between Opening 1 and Opening 3.
On the topic of great music of anime I feel like I can't leave "Konosuba" unmentioned. Best comedy anime out there. Awesome openings, even better endings. I would love you to see you check them out.
overlord is amazing and it was made with a very small budget of cash yet people still rave about it years after the first season, hands down the best anime series everymande in my opinion
The bad guy is also the main character. That's basically the shortest summary of it. The guy was playing a game where he and his friends built a massively powerful guild (top 10 best guild worldwide iirc) and he was playing on the last day before the game shut down. But when the servers were supossed to go down, instead of disconnecting he stayed in it. The NPC's, which are the characters you see standing with skull guy on the openings come to life, instead of being robot feeling npc's they become intelligent and sentient, yet still loyal. He was max level in the game, and therefore is absolutely ridiculously overpowered. You know every encounter that happens is going to end up with him winning, yet it's still such a banger of a show. I'd reccomend watching it. Last episode of season IV airs in a few days too.
I will explain overlord without spoilers: For overlord, its important you understand their is a distinction between a "protagonist" and "hero" and that the two aren't necessarily the same. Things do get dark, and some parts seem "slow" but the build up has always been worth the pay off. It's always fascinating to see how events unfold and when the hype moments hit, they will glue you to your chair. Sorry for the multiple comments, I tend to react and discuss as I am watching the video along side the reactor. Take care, thanks for the reaction to these o/ It's a very good series. I don't know if I would consider it a good gateway anime, but if you like darker themes and power it could very well be a great thing to dip into. Anime is for all kinds of types, there is something for everyone, even if anime "isn't your thing", as far as Overlord goes, its got a lot on the table to offer.
The run down with overlord is this (the most I'd be spoiling is most of episode 1, and background information, not any key details on plot points though), the MC is transported to another world in the body of his avatar from the MMO he played, his character's name was Momonga (later changed his name to the name of his guild from the game Ainz Ooal Gown, I will be calling him Ainz for the remainder of this), his guild was at one point one of the strongest guilds in the game, and even after declining in rank, their guild base has never been successfully raided, this is proof of the strength of their guild and the npcs they created. The main point of this is a brief explanation for the Great Tomb of Nazarick, the base of Ainz Ooal Gown. Ainz was transported with the entirety of the Great Tomb of Nazarick to the new world, as he was awaiting the end of the MMO (it was going to shut down at midnight, marking the end of the popular MMO and all of the hard work Ainz and his comrades in the guild put into the game, feels bad man), with all the other guild members having left already, he was alone within the Great Tomb, with only the npcs at his side. After midnight came, Ainz thought it was odd he didn't get booted out of the game, he tries to figure out what's going on and notices he can't log out, there's no GM call function or anything else. He ends up noticing the NPCs are no longer just NPCs, and behave like people now, and he learns he's not even in the world of the MMO he was familiar with. He tries to learn more about the world and how he got there, as well as if there's any other players in the world (which is why he takes on his guild's name, since it was a famous guild). He quickly figures out that most people in this new world are very weak compared to himself and by extension his subordinate former NPCs, which partially disappoints him. The world itself is split between various nations, and races, it's all very fantasy obviously. But the main points of the show that make it so great (besides the music) is the characters, of which there's a lot, and they're fairly well done and get a good amount of screentime, the story, which is pretty interesting by my count, not too action heavy (there is a fair amount of action, but most of the time there's not much tension as Ainz is OP), and having a good amount of world building and politics of the new world. I'd say that for isekai it's probably my favorite one of all time, at the very least it's among the best isekai I've seen (hence why it has 4 seasons now). It's a great show I really can't recommend enough, while it's true that no show is for everyone, a lot of people love Overlord and for good reason. I hope more watch the show as time goes on cause I do really love the show.
one really interesting thing is all the opening and endings of overlord were directed by the same person and opening 1 2 4 and ending 3 were by the band OxT while opening 3 and ending 1 and 2 were by Myth&Roid whose lead singer split off the band and did ending 4 overall an interesting thing to note is also each of the openings and endings are sung from the perspective of a main character with several deeper thoughts they have hinted in the light novel meaning those bands are very very passionate about the story
Overlord is basically about a guy getting stuck in this mmo game that he has been playing with his friends for a long long time and his main goal in the series is to get information about the world, find other players, and try to find out how to escape in this world. He also has to roleplay being an overlord to the NPCs he and his friends created.
so OxT did the openings for the 1st,2nd,4th seasons and the 3rd ending, Myth&Roid did the endings for the 1st,2nd,4th seasons and the 3rd opening. Gotta say Go Cry Go (S2) is probably my favorite song because the full version of the song is great but everything related to the music in this show is fantastic
Most favorite for me is Hollow Hunger, the 4th op. The anime is so good. Story, characters, world building, everything about this anime is so good, only bad things is the poorly used CGI, but that's it
