Went to the O2 Quincy Jones concert to watch Mick Hucknall and several others who were on the bill. Big shock to see this young girl open the show - she wasn't even on the program. Been following her ever since and finally got to see her in concert again last summer in Norway.
Imagine being invited by Quincy Jones himself to perform at his 85th birthday. One of the biggest songs he arranged for Frank Sinatra when Quincy was his band leader. Later he'd go one to produce 2 of the biggest albums of all time for Micheal Jackson. There is an awesome video of Angelina and Quincy backstage together. (Britt has reacted to this already. Yeah playful is a great way to describe it! She is doing a fluttering duet with all the instruments and does a pretty dance with them around the rest. This was the arrangement Quincy made for Frank Sinatra. Angelina was invited to perform for Quincy Jones 85th birthday party in the O2 arena. She wasn't announced, kicked the party of and, according to someone in the audience, was al the talk afterwards. Quincy compared her talent to Michael Jackson's.
Fly Me To The Moon is sort of Angelina's signature song, she did it more often than any other title, with different arrangements, from just a guitar via jazz and big bands to orchestra. I think there are videos of her doing it on more than 30 occasions, including rehearsals and fragments. This is actually the sound of the rehearsal, not from the performance, no one has published the live performance with good sound like this is. AJ's voice was mixed after the rehearsal, so the instruments did not drown her out. I have seen the original recordings of the rehearsal and you can hardly hear AJ's voice. One of the things you miss by seeing this version that is truncated is AJ telling the conductor how she wanted the music played for her, she was in control, at 12 years old.

Angelina dances over the top of this beautiful Quincy Jones arrangement like a ballerina. Still just a young teenager here, she sings this like one of the greats of the forties or fifties. Angelina is very special.

Angelina shared the stage with some big names that summer evening at the O2 but she was not overawed nor in search of a place to hide when the performers gathered for the finale. Indeed, one wonders what stars like Mick Hucknall, Lalah Hathaway, Paul Weller, Beverley Knight, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jeff Buckley and Mick Ronson made of the precocious, elaborately coiffured, white-gowned 12-year-old's tenacious barefoot occupation of centre-stage even after she sang her allotted line from Man In The mirror.
This child... holy crap! The people who love her are waiting to really let her fly until she's ready. I think that's wise. She is gonna conquer the world someday soon. Will be epic! ❤
Angelina reminds me of Melody Gardot. Another performer that won't perform in shoes is Joss Stone - except that time with James Brown. Joss was 17 at that performance too!
Hi Britt 👋. What a great reaction to 12 Angelina. Love how you get it about how big of an event she was at. The O2 arena in London is a great place and to think Angelina was invited by QJ himself to open his 85th birthday concert. She was a special guest to do this for she wasn't even on the program for the event. Britt, did you know this is were Mark Ronson 1st saw and met her. He was so impressed that he gave her the original back track to his and Miley Cirus song "Nothing breaks like a heart", which she at 13 not to long after this big birthday event. Also during the event Madonna was ask by a reporter in London what she thought about Angelina and she said "She’s Terrifying". That said it all. The industry truly is aware of her for some time now. Well, it wasnt an Angelina Jordan concert. Its was Quincy Jones birthday gala with the Who is who of the industry in the audience (20k ppl). Quincy arranged this for the Count Basie band, back in the 1960s. Listen closely to the the O2 Arena recording and you'll find differences from this rehearsal.
Philipp did a great job stabilizing the video and matching it to the audio track of the radio broadcast stage version. The original recording is from the balcony, so the orchestra is between cell phone mic and Angelina and therefore the singing is overlaid with the big band sound. But it's worth watching this recording too, because the stabilized version is missing the first three minutes, which are very interesting because they say something about how Angelina can work with such a large orchestra and how the musicians accept her. I am so glad someone told you about this Britt. This is one of my faverates. There is also another video footage of this too. I think the camera is a little higher. The camera also pans around to the right where you can see Angelina's mum Sara, Uncle Mike. That vid you could see Angelina getting the music changed on the music sheets. That was a big Orchestra. They changed the sheets on everybody's sheets. It was Angelina that walked up to the conductor and told him, the music sheets are not quite right. Could not here what Angelina said. But that was the impression I got. I not sure where I found this video. I think it was Rusty Shackletons Channel. They played that song twice in that video. Not having a musical history it sounded perfect to me both times. Angelina certainly noticed something not quite right. I think Angelina was only 13 years old here or just a little older. Wow, there is so many musicians and music performers that you have yet to find, I've been digging through RU-vid since the beginning, I will never send you a cam video, and I will never send you anything that didn't really impress me, most of it will be shocking and definitely new to your channel, for me music has been an adventure that never has an end, I keep discovering bands and performers I never knew existed. You are one of the most authentic reactors I have come across, I appreciate you and your reactions, I know you're trying to grow your channel, reactors get on the bandwagon of certain bands and artists, and that's all right, but variety and discovering new sounds is my forte.
The sound from the rehearsal itself is available on YT, but it is frankly almost unlistenable. It received quite a lot of rather rude and uninformed comments. To balance that, I already had a very clean version of the sound from a broadcast of the concert and attempted to synchronise them. And about 25 edits later it was made. We’ve constantly been watching for a pro video recording from the event but nothing emerged.
Great reaction - yes Angelina earns the respect of all the musicians that she works with - I'm sure that they will all be able to tell the story of how they once worked with Angelina Jordan!
AG would probably have started singing anyways, but her affection for jazz started when her grandmom played her old jazz records already when she was just a few years old. Billie, Frankie etc. so grandmom for sure knew about Quincy Jones from way back. I think this is the actual rehersal sound, unedited? You can hear the orchestra applauding in the end. I think Quincy Jones arrangement means it was made for his birthday, not by him.
You'll see the director leave a moment .. perhaps cause there was a problem with the sound? This is a big orchestra .. Quincy's, of course. She looked totally comfortable and relaxed .. what a pro!

This version is a little more up beat than her earlier version of this song and truly I would have to go with her earlier version. This one is more his way . She has already proven that her arrangement and beat to the song fits her better with out all the theatrical spin on it great beat but not as good as her's that's why I say let her be herself and not what others want her to be. Actually Britt, the original audio from the rehearsal, on a cellphone or handheld camera was pure crap. Thanks to Angelina fan PA1189j for fixing this with the concert audio, otherwise not listenable. 🥰🥰
Yes the rehearsal audio is extremely poor but that video is very enjoyable to watch as it shows more information/ interaction . It's the authenticity I like .

Took you long enough. But this is actually the actual recording for the show, the audio for the rehearsal is poor, but it’s still very much worth a listen, I actually like how she interacted with the orchestra to get it a little more in her lane, because the Quincy Jones arrangement is a little fast for her. There are several videos of her rehearsals and she always wears shoes, and she loves her shoes, but performances, including videos of studio recordings, she is shoeless, as you can observe in her “Back to Black” studio recording where they show her taking her shoes off before she begins.
Britt actually acknowledged that it was not the rehearsal audio . I also prefer the unedited video with rehearsal sound which as you say shows more interaction .
That recording can not be from the actual performance. The conductor began talking to Angelina at the very end, and not nearly the applause you would expect from a packed house. Someone was mistaken.
In the video about 9 seconds in there is a music stand to our right of Angelina. An obsevant person would note that it say LSO St Lukes. Now I'm not saying the orchestra she's rehersing with is the London Symphony Orchesrta but the space they are using is theirs. But Iwould like to know what orchestra it actually is.
