Each of the three songs included in the medley holds symbolic and historical weight. “Dixie” represents the antebellum South, “Battle Hymn of the Republic” symbolizes the Union and the Civil War, and “All My Trials” reflects the struggle of oppressed individuals seeking justice and freedom.

The Description of the song you read was Beautifully Said. The Song Uses 3 Civil War Era Songs Dixieland from the American South where most Slavery took Place, the Battle Hymn of the Republic Represents the Northern States who Fought to Abolish Slavery and All my Trials a Bahamian Lullaby sung by the Black Americans who were Enslaved. The Song Represents the Triumph over and Reunification of our Country after Slavery.

The bass that you hear in his background singer would be JD Sumner. He was the premier bass profundo of his generation. Elvis was in awe of his ability to hit low notes. If you watch Elvis doing How Great Thou Art, Elvis actually laughs a little when JD hits a low note.

"Dixieland" is an American southern ballad, adopted as a theme song of the Confederates during the American Civil War. "All My Trials" is a Negro spiritual/lullaby, cherished & sung by American slaves. "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" became the theme song of the northern Federal Armed Forces. Elvis adroitly pulled those 3 disparate political entities together, melding them into one with this song. Thanks for your reaction.

Hey, Blessing. A song of the South, a song of the North, and a slave lullaby, and Elvis ties it all together so magnificently. An iconic performance for sure. And it was broadcast by satellite to ultimately over a billion people around the globe.
@seanshadrach5197
@seanshadrach5197 Год назад
I can't be certain, but I believe the three songs address the South and North conflict during the American Civil War, and by Elvis singing their representative "anthems", he is stressing and encouraging unity among the current generation. Elvis was very often, very profound.

Thank you for this. TRILOGY: a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie are the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian (people of the Bahamas) lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s. It was perspiration from the mega hot house lights & stage lights & a heavy jumpsuit -- but yes, Elvis was an extremely passionate & emotional singer, it came from his soul & his gut, even his upbeat, fast songs had much emotion passion & were very powerful -- like no other! THE RAMP from the STAGE: Producer/director Marty Pasetta told Parker (Elvis' manager) that he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no. Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to (Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis). Parker said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Paseta told Elvis he wanted him to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Imagine how different that concert would have been if Elvis didn't have the option to get in close contact w-his audience. HE would have been just as spectacular, but without the ramp the concert would have had a very different feel.

After this it would take another 12 years until 1985 and Live Aid, which hade just about every big musical act in the world signed. Aloha from Hawaii was pure Elvis only, the GOAT! Excellent reaction, Blessing, to one of the most important songs in American history. "An American Trilogy" is from "Aloha from Hawaii", a live satellite TV event seen by 1.5 billion people in 36 countries, the first time anything like that had ever happened. Elvis was king of the world, in 36 countries anyway. This 3-song medley covers the American Civil War, the war to end slavery in America. Elvis was a white man from Dixie, the deep South, and a champion of blacks, so relates to all three songs. He opens with Dixie, a beautiful song, albeit the song of the slave-holding Confederacy. Still, it is beautiful and Elvis unleashes the first Elvisism when he growls out "early Lord one frosty morn" shortly after taking the vocal back from The Imperials, his backup singers. Then he hits The Battle Hymn of the Republic, song of the Union, song of those who fought to end slavery. "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah", sung by Elvis is as good as singing gets and a song as powerful and important as any song ever, the song that won the Civil War. Then Elvis goes into a dark place, his face transformed into a rictus of pain. Now he's a slave singing to his child. "Hush my child, don't you cry. You know your Daddy's gonna die." Saddest. Song. Ever. Elvis has now inhabited all three parties to the Civil War: Southerner, Northerner, Slave. Then it transitions back into Dixie with the most perfect flute solo ever, played by an African-American flautist. His shoulder flourish as he finishes is as perfect a symbol of the unification of America as you'll ever see and concludes a beautiful musical moment. Finally back to Elvis, now in full King of Rock and Roll mode. Up come the trumpets, vanquishing Dixie and powering back into the Battle Hymn of the Republic, as proud an American moment as you'll ever hear. Elvis pumps the band to hit it and turns towards his global audience. GLORY GLORY HALLELUJAH HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ON HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ON-NNN-NNN He belts this out with unparalleled vocal power to 1.5 billion people watching live. The Battle Hymn of the Republic wins the 3-way battle that is An American Trilogy. God's truth wins, slavery is defeated. Elvis is the king.

I can't tell you how much i love and miss him, there is not a day that goes by that i don't think of him and all the memories we made in 10 short years, his death knocked the wind out of me i have never been the same since, Elvis was the big brother i never had. He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and cared about my feelings and opinions. What it comes down to is we both needed a true friend and we were that for each other. Awesome reaction. I had to set some fool straight last night people trying to dirty Elvis name not on my watch what sickens me the most is the people that are talking smack know nothing of what they are speaking of, i have spent my entire adult life speaking out to people that try and judge a beautiful soul that is not here to defend himself and don't get me started on my girl Priscilla people hate her because they are straight up jealous she made Graceland prosperous no one else and people putting her down no way not while i still have breath in my lungs no one i mean no one will disrespect them period. God bless you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn. 😭Elvis told me all the time you should always know where you stand with people now i know what he meant. #forevermyking

Your research was exactly right and so are the descriptions that some of your other responders here are giving you. This was a big hit back in the 1970s for sure. And as you said, very emotional. Especially when one considers the backdrop to the song. Again, wonderful reaction and keep up the great work! 🙏😊💜

The American civil war was the US against the seceding slave states, the Confederacy, aka Dixieland. The song dixieland was a Southern anthem, while the other was a battle song of the North. The interlude in the middle represents the hundreds of thousand of men who died on both sides in the war, Glory being sung again and finally represents the victory of the North.

Dixie is the american south (where slavery was - for the most part). So i guess one song for the south, one for the north and one for the enslaved people. I found this : "Dixie" - a popular folk song about the southern United States. "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" - a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and "All My Trials" - a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals
