As noted, Mark Knopler of Dire Straits wrote this in response to the Falkland War (1982). Has a beautiful guitar solo. The Finnish a capella group Club For Five arranged it for a capella and graciously allowed Home Free to use their arrangement. Tim only added the echoes. Thanks for reverent reaction.
It wasn't a total lack of reaction; just a lack of vocal reaction. This is what makes Home Free the best acapella group out there - they don't just make it sound good; they project the emotions, the feelings behind the music, to the listener along with the notes. It was pretty clear to me that this happened to you, as it does to me every time I hear it. Tim and Chance take the parts of the soldiers dying in battle, sharing their thoughts and feelings, and (in my interpretation anyway) Adam, Rob and Austin are the angels singing, showing these good men the way to heaven. Through the song they honor those soldiers and their sacrifice, and make this song a work of art. Truly, it was a great non-reaction! 🥰
one of the most haunting performances by any artist, but these guys did it so perfectly. They can be silly, they are also serious artists as well. Prayers for our troops who work hard to keep us safe !
Home Free shows great respect and honor to soldiers everywhere. This song depicts a mortally wounded soldier thanking his comrades in arms for rescuing him from the battlefield. He shows great sorrow for the necessity of fighting and dying in a war that may not resolve anything in the grand scheme of things.
Your reaction or lack thereof, just shows you have a heart. I'm a 67 year old US Navy Submarine Service veteran and I have a tendency to get a little choked up and misty eyed when I listen to this one and it's my favorite that they do.
One of the loveliest aspects of Home Free's performances is that they make the lyrics so clear. So many non-acapella performers can be hard to understand without a lyric page. I feel that is the case with this one. Few guitarists can match his expressiveness on his instrument, and he is a fine singer, usually very well enunciated (as in Sultans of Swing), but the lyrics on this one are kind of hard to follow. But Home Free as usual honor the poetry of the original lyrics by making them so clear.
I get emotional and tear up every time I listen/watch this video! That last note at the end by Tim is what us Home Fries say is Tim releasing the dragon! Your reaction to this was perfect! 🤠

Home Free treated this presentation with a high degree of respect, it was very sobering and intentionally dwelling on those who have given all. Also, pointing out the desire for PEACE not war as those fighting are put into harm’s way by those who are making the decisions that take the lives others. Their video was well done, simple but very purposeful in the reflection of those who gave all and reflecting on those still serving. Thank You Home Free!!! ❣
Again you must be thanked for letting the performers (Home Free's excellent 5 men) have the large portion of your screen. Thank you for reacting to this very moving video. A reactor a long time ago mentioned that Home Free can just stand anywhere sing and make beautiful music to touch your heart.
I'd argue the other way - I've seen the performers multiple time already, (or I would go to their own site and give them a view); I'm here for the reaction. The reactor should have most of the screen. It's hard to see subtle expressions when the reactor's face is a tiny rectangle in a corner, especially on a phone. Everything else I agree with!
Home Free is great at recording and releasing video that get us feeling some type of emotion. This one is top notch and on my fav list at the top of all time release from them. It seems to have made you feel something when you say to carry on. It’s beautifully haunting and those harmonies are gorgeous! The first time I heard it on a digital pre-release via Patreon, I was taken aback by Tim’s opening notes. I immediately rewound and started over. After playing it through I re-played it again because it was brillliant!
I am glad that Tim started this song. Tim is a great singer and songwriter and story teller. Chance did a great job on this song to. The harmonies are great to.❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is hauntingly sad & beautiful. No beatboxing in this - just incomparable singing & harmony. You're not the only one that's been left speechless. Reactors who are veterans have cried watching this video. Incidentally, Tim (bass), Austin (curly red hair) & friends do fund raising for at-risk veterans.

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound
