You can't go wrong with Ms. James. And it's never too late to go down the rabbit hole. Such an immense talent. She actually wanted to be a Country singer when she was growing up.
Britt!!!! If you have not heard Etta James sing "At Last" you have not experienced Soul Music. Grown white men are moved to tears with this incredible song. You will need to pick your self up off the floor after hearing it for the first time. Trust me and everyone else who has mentioned it.
Great song, and Etta definitely sings the hell out of it, an unquestionable masterpiece. If you will entertain a cover version, you might enjoy Stevie Nicks rendition. I think she’s pays proper respect to Etta’s original.
You need to check out Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa doing their rendition of this classic. Beth is a 4 time Jazz artist of the year winner. Talk about storytelling! It is fabulous.
Etta James was a great singer who performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock & roll, jazz & gospel in the 50's-80's. She had an amazing powerful voice. She had so many hits such as "At Last", "Stormy Weather", "The Wallflower", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got A Hold On Me", "If I Can't Have You", "Spoonful", "All I Could Do Was Cry", "My Dearest Darling", "A Sunday Kind Of Love", "Fool That I Am", "Don't Cry Baby", "Losers Weepers", "I Found A Love" etc.
Please do the live version of this if only for yourself. Miss Etta played that audience like a violin. Half the time she didn't even use her microphone she just belted it out. She also had a wicked sense of humor. Love, love, love this woman. "At Last", was another favorite of mine by Miss Etta James. Thanks for the time and thoughts you share. Peace✌
Etta James was the first Lady of Rock and Roll. She came out in the 50s. Beyonce played her in the movie Cadillac Records and covered this classic. Etta also did the song At Last, it too is a classic.
Legendary Etta James RIP. To be honest it was Angelina cover this and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” that introduced and had me going back and experiencing this Awesome Lady’s work. Thanks for this reaction 🤠
You should know more about Etta James, but she was a little before your time. What a voice and no auto tune, not sure they even had reverb back then LOL Love to see you add some of these old classics, we all could use the education.
My favorite blues hit that Etta James sings is "Tell Mama" POWERFUL.. so powerful that the song was covered by Janis Joplin which also became a big hit for Janis! If you like Etta James' Blues, you should also react to KoKo Taylor, another GREAT BLUES singer who sings with power! :) I strongly recommend you react to KoKo Taylor's big blues hit "i'm a Woman" and experience that power for yourself :)
The world and his wife have covered this song . . . but Etta and those backing singers are just delicious! if you're looking for another rabbit hole, try Sister Rosetta Tharpe. ❤❤❤
I would love, love, love to see you take a DEEP dive into this era of music. So much good music including doo wop and Motown. Please continue to do these fabulous reactions. ❤
Hey Britt... I see you did indeed react to Angelina's cover (not my fave of hers) of this gorgeous song... and you also reacted to it with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa.. now that cover I adore.. and Beth is one of the best blues singers of our time and Joe the king of Blues guitar. Etta singing this song.. is my ALL TIME FAVE song.... ever!!! I loved that you loved it. I know the subject matter is a bit dated.. but that takes nothing away from Etta's pure magical artistry!!!! 🤩😍 I do also love Holly Miranda - I'd Rather Go Blind (Etta James Cover) (@Super Bock Super Rock 2010) ... it's sooooo good.. so natural.. and she makes it her own.. I can't get enough of it for real!!!🥰 lol The vid quality is not great.. but it's live and soooo good! I do agree with you... I"d rather not go blind for any one.. ever.😅 Times were different back then.. and well.. it is what it is. Etta's delivery of the song though..... pure perfection!!! 😙
Etta James the Queen of the Blues, another one of the greats gone to soon. Why do we lose so many iconic performers to drug and alcohol abuse? So sad when you think of all the amazing artists we have lost. Thx Britt.
I saw Etta James in concert just a few years before she passed. She had obviously aged quite a bit but then she opened her mouth and sang! It just seemed totally effortless for her. It was like singing came to her as easily as talking.
This is an amazing studio rendition of this song, but you really should watch her perform this in the live performance at Montreux, 1975. It will blow your socks off!!
This song was the inspiration for Chris Stapleton's arrangement of Tennessee Whiskey, which was originally recorded in 1981 in a very tradtional 4/4 country arranmement. Brilliant!
Such amazing artists back in the day, such powerful stories. Yes, you listened to Angelina Jordan sing this song, she is introducing the sounds of the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's to the new generations. I guess encouraging young people, like yourself, to look back at the original artists - there are so many to look into, explore the past and feel the passion...
Please react to Etta James and Dr John doing this live! Their chemistry is just…. Wow!! As a 35 year old, I was lucky enough to have this music playing in my house as a child. Etta, Luther, Sinatra, Dr John, and many more were a staple in my household. ❤
This is to be watched in a life version. Her facial expressions are great. When my 5 year old daughter watched her for the first time, she was totally mesmerized and mimicking Etta's expressions. Like she felt every bit of pain and despair.
Etta James had some personal struggles that affected her career over the years but was considered a bridge between the blues and rock and is identified as a major influence by artists from Christina Aguilera to the Rolling Stones to Beth Hart to Amy Winehouse. Try "Something's Got a Hold On Me", "At Last", "Tell Mama", and "A Sunday Kind Of Love".
You need to React to Morgan James! She has many covers (her Aretha Franklin Series is killer) or her first Album ""Morgan James Live, a celebration of Nina Simone". However, her Original Music brings you back to 60s/70s Motown. I'd suggest the song "Ranson" as a start.
Fleetwood Mac had a song (pre Stevie Nicks) with lyrics something like this: If I could sing like Paul McCartney, get funky like Etta James, I'd never change.
Etta James is a legend!!! One of many powerhouse female blues / jazz songstresses. You need to dig deep into her catalog as well as Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday and others who moved your soul with their voices
It's just a classic song. I first heard it when Rachel Crow sang it on the X Factor. If you haven't heard that version you should check it out. Imagine a girl 13 or 14 years old singing like Etta James.
Miss Etta is a Blues Legend. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the accoustic Delta Blues of Robert Johnson, Son House, Lightning Hopkins, etc, but I won't count out the ladies. As far back as the 1920s and 30s, the ladies usually had some sort of band behind their vocals. Memphis Minnie was one of the very few who accompanied herself on guitar. Sister Rosetta Tharpe came along a little later playing electric guitar. Some said she could play as good as a man. The truth is, she could play better than most of the men. Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ethel Waters, Ella Fitzgerald, Koko Taylor, Nina Simone, and Cassandra Wilson are just a few of the great ladies of the Blues. Janis Joplin could also be easily added to this list. You might enjoy watching Cadillac Records, a movie about Chess Records and some of their artists including:: Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, and Miss Etta James as played by Beyonce Knowles.
Hello Britt you look so awesome today love the song another great reaction by you again like always thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
You reacted to Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa's cover of this song awhile back, so that's possibly what you're recalling. I love Miss Etta's version, it's the one I grew up with. Beth and Joe's version is the best performance I have ever experienced. Now you've reacted to both... great job!
As many others will likely say, as amazing as Etta's version is, you have to watch Beth Hart and Joe Bonnassa's version of it, which is 'blow your hair back' type intense. Beth Hart in general is scary good. Check out her live version of Mama, which is just her at a piano and she peels the paint off the rear wall of the venue.
A good movie is Cadillac Records, where Beyonce plays Etta James. Also the film depicts Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin Wolf and others, and how black artists were financially exploited. Try Little Walter's "My Babe," and Howlin Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning."
While I always have respect for original versions, in my opinion there are two covers that outshine Miss Etta’s version. First would be Beyoncé from the movie soundtrack, and my favorite by Beth Hart an Joe Bonomasa. ♥️✌🏼😎
It’s funny. When I hear the music start, until there’s singing, you can’t tell if it’s Etta or Chris Stapleton. Same exact background music to Tennessee Whiskey
Great to start with the original, but Beth and Joe are an experience that shouldn't be missed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UEHwO_UEp7A.html
