IU can't hear and V’s one eye can't see ,in the end IU covered the good eyes of Taehyung so he won't see the horrible ending in front of them ,im Stuck at how a single tear from Taehyung’s good eye traced its path down his face and IU’s hand gently covered his eyes, It's as if he found a momentary refuge in her touch, offering a subtle relief from the overwhelming sensation ... V AMAZING acting out all these emotions of fear happiness sorrow furious, in a 5 minute music video is crazy because we see actors failing to act out a single emotion in an 1 hour long episode but here he is, the versatility is showing 😭They they forgot what they were running from because through the lens of the camera, they were able to just love and enjoy life until the reality caught up to them and they were taken away ICRY 😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤

I think the MV is so open to personal interpretation and different people will have different views. Its so beautiful but in a sad way and I can honestly say I cry when watching it (a first for me from a MV). They really made a movie with the title of a 5 minute Music Video.

I paused in the middle of your reaction. I wanted t pause because Taehyung (V) did used to ascot and left to be with BTS more. IU is an extremely well known actress and singer too! She also has an interview show called Palette where J-Hope, Suga, and V all were guests. She does a duet as part of her show. V mentioned he would like to actin some kind of thriller type show and I think IU asked one of the best to do this with her, esp since they both are idols too! Love the chemistry shown in the MV. This was such a beautiful song. I had to sit, a while, with the video, in order to digest all of the tiny details. It was a lot to unpack. Like everyone else, I cried. I commented this on bookishtheory's so this is my take 😹: I really luv the detail where iu squeezes his chest 3 times, which also means "i luv you" in sign language 😭💜 I do think they were really just in a moment wearing the wedding dress & tux, in a way they don't have to prove anything or signify it as their luv but more so in *living their "what ifs"* , I would assume they already knew what the pile of clothes signify by how they look at it, there are *clothes everywhere* even outside the mall. it's like when films try to signify "fleeting moment/short life" they use flies in the background, here they used the clothes that literally hangs in the background to foreshadow their demise. that adds more to the reveal that there are alooot of nemos which indicates that it's *inevitable* and most likely no chance of survival. so in a way they *lived and loved until the end* 💜✨ (and this is what I commented somewhere abt the issue where netizens accuse iu of ableism) the director said himself that interpretations are welcome and it's made that way. but the thing with the camcorder is in ways could be interpreted as: 1. the Rose-colored glasses metaphor: *How they see each other is perfect the way they luv the person, the way they are* (now how you'd portray them on screen?-like this) this is evident on their singing scene; eventho iu is deaf, it is shown that they *truly see & hear each other* 2. How the idols always have to *portray the "perfect image"* : in their real world they've gone through so much/beat up/scars, they appear flawless on the lens of the cameras (camcoder/photobooth) evidently in the photobooth pic. Idols/artists themselves give positivity to make fans happy with them in their own made up bubble where we feel comfy, warmth, playful, *accepted and feel loved* just as they do to each other. -Now there are multiple interpretations of Nemo (mf cube) but the most part that supports the interpretations i gave above is: •As V hits the cube; it's in 1st person perspective that could also be a metaphor for the ones watching the screen (media/knetz) who is known to run after/hunt them down whenever they make noise (throwing cassette tapes, singing in their fantasy; iu's cannot be heared, but once V sings the cube appears) as he hits the cube it appears to be a screen too. the red light symbolizes hate too, just like with passion&luv. in conclusion; If you ever think the mv is is ableist, think again. Have some imagination 👁️👄👁️ 💀

When I saw that you were also watching Bookish Theories with this, I was a bit afraid. As usual, she did a good job, and kept to what is known. My fear regarding theory/explanation videos is two-fold. First, some people will go to the explanation without pondering the MV or art for themselves; there is no reflection or deeper thinking. The other is that some people believe there is only one right answer, and, as you said Master Go, they come down on anyone who has a different idea. (And I just realized as I wrote that last sentence, that is a perfect segway to what I think about the MV.) I see the cube as The Box. The one that we are all suppose to fit neatly into, so we can be sorted, categorized, and shelved. Those who are on the edges of society, those who are on the fringes usually without political power or maybe even without societal protection are liminal people who cannot or will not fit into conformity. Yet, they still love--all kinds of love, familial, friendships, romantic. They still love even though they may be wounded, broken, imperfect, they love. Love is seeing the person. Love is mindful of this moment. Love is resilient. Love continues through to the very end.

In my mind the cubes are interpreted as "squares", ie people with a fixed world view who would rather have those who don't fit their image of "the perfect world" not be here. In the MV the world is full of them and unfortunately there seems to be a growing trend in the world today of persecuting people who are "different" either by birth or choice. I also couldn't help thinking of Spring Day and the way the clothes in that one represent departed innocent souls who ultimately died because of all the wrongdoings of the world of today which could apply to this MV as well. However, no matter how one interprets the MV, in my humble opinion it's an absolute masterpiece with amazing acting and a gorgeous song. 💜😢👍💜

Here is some extra info about the music video... Director Um Tae Hwa released a guide explaining the MV and gave 4 Key points. First, the "cube" signified the discrimination and oppression that are prevalent in the daily lives of the main characters. Second, the "camcorder" represents the "lens of love," an important "device" that allows us to look at the beautiful things in the world beyond the internal or external appearance of the characters. Third, IU and BTS V became the main characters in a "survival story of a dystopian worldview of someone who cannot speak and sees the world only through his left eye." Despite the difficulty, feeling hurt and exhausted, they relied on each other despite "cube" and tried to overcome it in the end. Fourth and last, the "wedding dress and tuxedo" symbolize the "fruit of love." At the end where their clothes are seen rising in the air, it depicts that they are finally "free to fly away from all kinds of oppression and pressure." Have a wonderful day💜

my 14yo’s first reaction to this kinda shook me… i knew the director said the cubes represent hatred. but i didn’t tell my kid, and the interpretation they gave me immediately after watching the video, while we both tried to dry our eyes, was that the world was destroying itself- not aliens vs humanity but hatred vs humanity- with people’s hatred directed against other people who are different from themselves, and maybe the cubes came to rescue the survivors, even if we didn’t recognize them (because they don’t look like us)… i love my baby’s beautiful heart and soul 😭

A different take: The 2 have faced a cube before. V told IU to hide while he fought to protect her. He lost the sight of one eye, but somehow escaped. From her hiding place, IU witnessed V's struggle with the horrifying cube, and the emotional trauma left her mute, symbolized by the lip ring, evidenced by her use of signing. They have been on the run ever since then. They recently gained some fresh scrapes and scratches running through the forest. These are not indications of disability; they are evidence of their hard life as they flee the abuse of the cube(s). Their clothes show wear and tear. While V healed, their dynamic changed. He had to depend on her help and her decisions. When we first see them, IU is tired, worried, and looking for coping strategies. V is more than tired. He looks traumatized. His face looks gaunt. His memories of his encounter with the cube haunt him, and his thoughts seem ... out of focus. IU leads him. They both contemplate the mountain of clothes, understanding they represent lives lost to the cubes. Since death will come to us all, how then should we live? Like a curious child, V tries out the camcorder. When he hands it to IU, he looks hesitant and shy. What will she see? If she sees the strong "him" of times past, will she reject the weak "him" of now? Instead, she is fascinated and very gentle. Each sees the other as that one was before all the trauma came into their lives. They each become better, but not by willpower, and not to please the other. Each is healed by the other's perception while looking through the lens of love. The ones shrouded in black are how IU and V imagine the waiters serving and the guests dining in the restaurant long ago. Then the cubes came and turned them all to dust. They are the thoughts that nag, jeer, and heckle us, shaming us for being happy in a place where so much tragedy struck. "Our joy was stolen from us then, so you must kill your own joy now. Right now! Quit running around playing and eating!" But IU and V do not let false guilty thoughts steal their joy. This is their time to live and love. They playfully dismiss the thoughts with the wave of a long-stemmed flower, and a bop from a red balloon. And mostly they just keep their eyes on each other. More and more, V's character gains strength, taking the lead in some cases. IU had discussed with Director Um Tae-hwa what kind of actor to cast. He said, "He has to possess the mood of a young boy. However he must give off a very cool and reliable feeling after the transformation." And IU asked, "But Mr. Um, who on earth is like that?" Who on earth, indeed. A few days later she thought, "V?" and invited him to her project. In the end, IU's character is ready to fight as she has become accustomed. But V's character cannot stand by. He doesn't ask. He just takes the pipe from her. He must briefly look away and brace himself to face the cube, because he knows first hand what that is like. Then he throws himself into attacking it. He gives everything he has until he is exhausted. The scene reflects IU's lyrics as they courageously set with each other, sharing their sadness and their love, going to the end together, their love undefeated by adversity.
